Default Sleeping too late; no energy. HELP!

So i was wondering what you ladies think of my situation. I sleep WAY too much, like
8-11 hours per night, and still have no energy. I usually work until 1 or 2am, then stay up watching TV till 4 or 5, trying to unwind. Then I cannot wake up until 1or 2 pm, even with the alarm blaring at 10 or 11am onwards. It makes me feel as if I am missing the entire day. Most times, I can't bother to get up because there is nothing to do, working late gives me no motivation to do anyting. Then, I am super tired and get nothing done. I really need to lose weight, but don't have the energy to exercise as I am worried that I will be too tired for work. As well, it messes with my entire eating schedule as well. I end up eating one meal all day, at around 5 or 6, then eating margarine drenched popcorn around 4am as I am so hungry but too tired/lazy to do anything. Ahhhhh, I need a proper schedule. Any advice, I'm not getting anything done with my life!

8 hours of sleep is a normal amount of sleep....maybe your body needs the rest. I work a lot of night shifts, so I feel your pain. Maybe you could find a better way to unwind after work, like reading, yoga or meditation. Remember, people who work regular 9-5 jobs are only awake for about 4-5 hours after their jobs. Perhaps you are trying to cram too much in during the day.

Cut out the TV after work totally or at least reduce it to only an hour. Seriously. Your body is so out of wack due to how you "stay up" so late even tho' you only work til 1 or 2am. Listen to soothing relaxing (whatever that is to you) music that will put you to sleep, burn incense or oils that will help you rest peacefully as well.

Also look at your diet. Are you eating too much protein before going to bed? Eat more carbs than protein as this will make you naturally tired. Cut out the crap food, try to eat good food before you go to bed (if you must eat after you come home from work).

Reduce (or eliminate) your sugar, caffiene etc if you have any of that 2 hours or less prior to going to bed.

When you wake up, do some stretches or basic yoga moves. This will help your body to wake up and in turn wakes up your mind (I know this has helped me immensely).

I do the same thing. I have sstarted working friday and saturday nights and the shifts are longer 10-12 hours than the weeknight shifts but its better because my sleeping pattern can go back to semi-normal during the week.

I went to bed early last night, woke up at 8am this morning and thought why get up i have nothing to do? so i went back to sleep and didnt wake up til 11:30, now i feel lazy.

I think a big part of it for me is definately boredom.

if you go up on stage alot/do pole work, or get a huge workout, your body probably needs the rest. Your food choices might be a factor...Buttery popcorn is great for soaking up the alcahol in your system, but I tend to have more energy when i eat SUPER healthy. And the older I get the more my diet affects me. I usually just drink a TON of redbull/rockstar.

i have this problem too.. I usually can't fall asleep until well past 5AM, and sleep until 2-3:00 the next day..

I think it's definitely that your body clock is out of whack. Also, if you get more sunshine you might have more energy.

I have this problem all the time, even after I stopped working nightjobs.

    1. Stop drinking caffinated beverages early, like by 8pm.

    2. When you get home, try some herbal chamomile and pop a melatonin and a valerian root pill. Have a bath if you like. And by all means, eat something if you're hungry. Even eat something filling. You've been actively moving around all of those hours, its ok. Carbs make most people sleepy.

Also, if you don't have a problem with this, have a little booze. A glass of wine or some brandy/cognac perhaps. I don't think this is really that good for you, but it might help you get started.

    3. Get yourself in a DARK room. Put on one of those eyemasks and earplugs. You can get them anywhere. This will drown out the outside world and help you focus on sleeping.

You might have to force this the first few times. Set your alarm clock for the same time everyday. Do you have a coffeemaker with a timer? Set the timer to start brewing. When you wake up, step outside, even just for a second.

    This technique works for me.
