Default SW Fest in September 2007!!

Ok ladies, whaddayas wanna do? (I'm asking the ladies because, well, if boys come they will always follow us HA!)

    Other suggestions, please post.

You can pick more than one choice, but please keep it to one location and one date so we can see which place/date is most popular.

I was gonna vote for Florida Beaches but there are a lot of cruise ports around Florida, including my area so.... depending on where the boat leaves from, cruise it is!

These might be interesting. I know price is always an issue, and these are really cheap.

There are tons more, those are just the cheapest options in September.

Cruise prices almost always include food/drinks (except booze).
Remember you can vote for more than one option in the poll!! This way you can choose your place AND date, and if you have a first/second choice, do that too. This way we can really see what's most popular and help narrow it down.

I swear, one day I'm gonna get it together and organize a big fat giant blowout that practically everyone can come to

I have a feeling more people might like the first one because it leaves from Miami and they can party there too, but for me, I don't care. Both cruises are roughly the same, just leave from different cities, and one starts on Thursday, other on Friday. I haven't been to the Bahamas (Nassau) so that's cool for me, plus the fact that it's almost a full day stop is cool too.

For those who don't know, I believe the closest major airport to Port Canaveral, FL (2nd cruise linked above) is Orlando. Convenient for those who might want to combine a Disney thing with the cruise...

WOW! This is gonna be a close and tough one! Maybe it's gonna take more than one poll!? All these ideas are so great!

I haven't been to the Bahamas since I was a kid, but it was so fun!

As for the prices... since they're the same cost, the big difference for folks will be flight, I guess? Which would be more costly to fly into/out of... Orlando or Miami? I have no idea, but I can peer around and look.

Doesn't matter for me - I've got a free flight coming so I don't care. I think people should do a quick search on orbitz.com and southwest.com for flights, and see what comes up for their city.

I've never been to The Bahamas either!!!!!!!!! Me love my tropical islands, though...so I already know it'll be a blast!!! I don't care which cruise, either. Like what Paige said...it'll be the flights/prices/departure cities that people will be thinking about.

Well, I just did a little more snooping and it seems those cruises are filling up kinda fast. If we're gonna do something like that we might need to get on the stick...

Will passports be needed for the cruise? With wait times in the 3-5 month range, I don't know if I'd be able to get one in time. (Lol, I sound like Cally!!! )

Let's let some votes come in for a bit and see where it goes. I really dig the cruise idea best but I can do whatever, depending on the dates. I'm planning on surgery in September so it'll have to be before or after that.

Passports - you can apply for them at the post office and it takes anywhere from a few days to maybe a month to get it. Depends mostly on where you apply. If you have a regular passport office in your city, and you do it there, it'll be faster. I did mine at the passport office in New Orleans and got it in the mail a whopping 4 days later, and I didn't even pay for expedited service!

Wait a minute. 3-5 months??? Are you serious???

    Getting your passport:
    Cities with specific passport agencies:
You can always go to a post office if you're not in one of those cities with a passport agency. Locations in the page linked first.

Yeah, well, now that we're gonna need them for Canada and Mexico, a whole lot more folks are lined up for them. It's ridiculous.

^Yeah, I don't know if it's just because I'm here in AZ but they are seriously backlogged on the passport issue. A whole bunch of kids from my junior high missed their graduation trip to Israel because their passports took 4 months to process.

You can always pay for expedited service and get it within 2-3 weeks. It's more money but seems worth it to me, to ensure you don't miss out on trips due to not getting a passport in time. I think most everyone should have a passport anyway - makes great backup ID in case you lose your driver license, if nothing else! And honestly, I dislike being limited in choices because some people still haven't gotten their f'in passports. Yall get your shit together so we can do whatever the fuck we want

Also, there is such a thing as a "cruise to nowhere" that's short, and you won't need a passport for that since you don't actually go to any other country, just float around for a couple days. It doesn't seem so exciting as going to some exotic port, but I wouldn't mind cruising and sunbathing on the upper decks, partying on the boat and whatnot for a couple days with my SW girlies!!

Well actually due to the passport backlog, the new passport requirements for Canada, Mexico and the Carribbean have been postponed.

^That's only if you're travelling by AIR to/from the other country, and you've applied for your passport before you travel. And the cutoff for this is September 30, 2007. This wouldn't help those going on a cruise.

If you don't have a passport, and you apply NOW, and pay for expedited service, you'll have it well before cruise time in September.

    Ok, found somemore info.

Do I need a passport to go on a cruise or to travel by vehicle across the land border to Canada or Mexico?

No, but it is recommended that U.S. citizens carry and present government-issued identification when requested. Although not currently required to present a document, U.S. citizens arriving by land and sea must still establish to the satisfaction of the inspecting officer that they are U.S. citizens.

As early as January 2008, the Departments of Homeland Security and State will begin to implement WHTI at land and sea ports of entry. A Notice of Proposed Rule Making outlining a phased implementation is expected to be published in the Federal Register within the next two weeks.

[Bahamas] ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS: U.S. citizens may contact The Embassy of the Bahamas at 2220 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20008 (tel: 202-319-2660), its Consulates in Miami and New York, or by email at [email protected] . Sea travelers must have a valid U.S. passport (or other original proof of U.S. citizenship, such as a certified U.S. birth certificate with a government-issued photo ID). Voter registration cards, Social Security cards, driver's licenses, affidavits, and other similar documents are not acceptable as proof of U.S. citizenship. U.S. citizens do not need to obtain visas to visit the Bahamas. However, U.S. citizens planning on an extended stay of several months may be asked to provide proof or evidence of financial solvency upon entry to Bahamian immigration authorities. Travelers arriving via private watercraft are charged docking fees.

So it looks like US citizens can still cruise to the Bahamas with just a driver license and birth certificate (or naturalization papers).

I had to have a passport for Bahamas a few months ago. But I flew in. And I expedited. It cost abot $100 and took a few weeks, well worth it to not freak out. And my hotel in Bahamas was giving passport refunds for Americans. Perhaps the cruise ships are doing something too.

I'd be happy to go to Bahamas a second time this year. Shit, I could live there! But then again I'd like to see San Diego, havn't been there since I was a young teenager.

    And which Florida beaches?

Florida beaches - I'm totally unimpressed with Miami. Meh. I liked Key West better but we just did that in March. I just put beaches but meant anywhere in FL.

Fridays and Saturdays aren't really big posting days - we get more traffic on Sundays and weekdays. I'm thinking we'll see more action on this and a clearer majority over the next day or two.
