Default My first shift at the Dolphin.

Was alright. I guess. It's REALLY different from Cheetah. I became ENRAGED at the OLCC alcohol policy- how "minors" as they call entertainers aged 18-20 are not allowed on the floor at all-- OH except for a 2x4 piece of wood 5 feet off the ground with no steps/railing or anything that they call a "stage". So I worked 11-6... 7 hours.. and made $106.. which averages out to $15/hr, which is alright for a dayshift and not being able to work the floor, I guess it just seemed worse than it was because a) I couldn't work the floor, b) it was dead until 4pm and c) the so called couch "dances" are bullshit, absolute bullshit.

Question: How the fuck are you supposed to give a couch dance if you have to sit on a couch, knees on the couch with a pillow between you and the customer, full clothed?? THAT GIVES NO RANGE OF MOTION!!!!

oh I miss Cheetah.. very.. veryy.. very... much.

If anyone has suggestions for clubs in PDX that I would not be so annoyed with it would be very helpful. I'm going to try Stars Cabaret, and once I completely master the pole, I'll try Acropolis, DP or 205?? I dont know. Or even maybe across the river in Washington? Are the rules about alcohol/minors different there? The pole definitely looks a lot easier than it is, I spent a good 5-6 stage sets just figuring out how to do a basic spin on it, and the whole crawling around on the floor thing is not fun either.. BRUISES.

The good thing is that the management likes me and put me on all night shifts, so I won't have to deal with a dead club in addition to not even being able to HUSTLE it. .. so I'll give it a week.. a Monday, Thursday and Saturday night shift.. and then no money=no dolphin.

Just keep trying. It's a slow time at D2 right now (not sure if you worked there or D1) and the night shifts are exponentially better than the day shifts. Across the river in Washington? I've never heard of any clubs on the other side of the Columbia. Don't worry about "mastering the pole." Just try some different clubs and try night shifts at the Dolphin. Yes the couch dances are frustrating when you come from a place where you can give lap dances...but they are pretty sweet when a customer wants to buy 10 or something.

I personally got pissed at the whole Dolphin situation on Monday and walked out. The main manager told me I could come back but I don't even care right now. I'm working at a stage only club and made $224 on a dayshift today.

There are many clubs in Portland...you sort of have to persevere and see what works for you. If you think couch dances are frustrating try a club that does air dances.

You do not have to be a pole master to work at Stars, not sure they allow minors, though. Air dances there do kinda suck for selling multiples. I think portland is all about regulars.

I've worked at Stars and Dolphin and did fine at both, but I'm sure being a minor will mildly suck at any club you are at. The dances at Stars are a little harder of a sell cause the bouncer seriously stands over you most of the time, and customers feel a little weird about it. Sun Child is right about the couch dances at Dolphin, because of the touching guys rarely buy one and selling 5+ was not uncommon for me. But, breathing on his neck and nibbling on his ear gets seriously old after the first song - so I actually didn't like doing them, no matter how much money I was making.

I guess I'd suggest sticking at Dolphin for at least two solid weeks. I think you'll get the swing of things and then if you don't start making more then try somewhere else.

205 is always pretty busy and there is $$ off stage there too, so you might do well as a minor.

And out of curiousity how did it work at Cheetahs as a minor?
I'm confused, but the Chewbacca Truffle Shuffle cleared it up. - Emily

the Cheetah didn't have the stupid ridiculous alcohol policy that Oregon does to begin with. Their system made a lot more sense for both the club and the dancers (hello....if the dancers don't make money they're not going to tip out as much or be able to get customers to buy drinks for them (non-alcoholic, still makes $$ for the club). Once you got hired, if you are until 21, they take your picture with a polaroid camera, and put it on a minors board in the back room where the waitresses can see, where it clearly lists your birth date and stage name, that way the waitresses know not to serve you. I don't understand why Oregon can't do something like that, or just make the minors wear neon green bracelets like you get when you go to a concert or something.. or at the very least designate one of the side "stages" for the "minors" to go in, so they can be on the floor, but not circulating and "possibly" drinking. Agh, it's really frustrating. I did really really really REALLY well at the Cheetah, and now coming here I feel like I'm going backwards.. I can't work the floor! All I want to do is work the floor.. hustle a couple of rich old guys.. ugh. I don't even drink. At ALL. Completely sober.. so the rule doesn't even apply to me!! There is no way I'd even be tempted to take a sip.. I don't do alcohol. Stupid fucking rule.

I have never been anywhere where they have the rule they do in Oregon -- that you can work as a minor, but not actually be on the floor. Everywhere else it's either OK to dance/waitress in alcohol clubs at 18 (Texas, of course), and you're on the floor, or it's not OK and you have to be 21. So, I don't know, would it be worse to actually have to wait until you're 21 to dance again?

There isn't anything across the river in WA -- there's very few clubs in that whole state and the general consensus is they suck.

I hope you figure out a way to make it work -- I know it's gotta be rough, but just work on that stage hustle.

What about going to one of those juice bar clubs on PDX? At least to try it out?

thanks for the advice... I'm just going to stick it out and work on hustling from the stage... and getting better stage tips. I'll be happy if I can make 200/night and work 3 nights a week, that's still better than minimum and most serving jobs. There is no way I would wait until I turn 21 to dance again...no way. I love the stage too much, I love the atmosphere of the club.. the fantasy, the theatrics, the dramas..the flexibility.. there is no other job I'd rather do-- and I HAVE to work so... I'm going to make it work.

As for juice bars.. no. way. in. hell. I hear they're really dirty.. and contact is not my cup of tea.

    no... that's needtodance aka Daniella @ D2

I'm new.. just moved here and started @ D2 and my stage name is Gypsy. I dance to rock music(not new rock though. things like Prodigy, NIN, Manson, AC/DC, etc) have long dark hair, light skin (but not super pale) and I've got a pretty big tattoo. Is the dolphin I far away from D2? I'd rather get good stage tips and sell less dances, because the "dances", are absolutely ridiculous and make me feel awkward and uncomfortable.

No, Anastasia... I'm the oversplits girl!

Debating heading over to Dolphin I to try...

Now I'm gonna try searching my brain to figure out who you are! A clue, please? Did I meet you at the Dolphin II?

Gypsy, congrats on getting the night shifts, I think that they should work out pretty well for your money goals, and you do have a good hustle so you'll be fine. But yeah, portland is WEIRD to dance in... with the no contact, and the liqour laws...

Dolphin I is in milwaukie, off Mclaughlin... Its the number 33 bus, if i recall correctly.. SO its a ways away on the other side of the river, but still do-able distance if you're making good money! I'd guess the cab would be 25-30$ although i'm obviously not the cab company to really KNOW...

You guys, it's so funny, because there are so many Portland dancers who can't fathom dancing anywhere else and think places where you do table dances out on the floor and touch customers are ridiculous!

I like the balance of having one club where you sell lots of dances (was the DII for me, will be looking for another in late July) and one where you make good stage money (we've covered those). Mixing it up with a few bachelor parties has given me a good income in PDX this year so far but it just can't compete with other areas. You can still make better money than most other gigs, though, and it's a fun and low-stress place to work. And of course an awesome city.

Its the minor thing thats my big "drawback"...

But at teh same time, I'd rather be in a club that allows light touching in safe zones during lapdances, than the couch dances at Dolphin II... I've found those tend to feel much more intimate, more like lovers cuddling, and I've had a LOT more guys pushing for my number/a dinner date/whatnot after getting up from a couch dance, than from a more "structured" table dance... I know i'm relatively inexperienced, so I'm probably wrong, but this is what i've seen in the clubs I've worked at...

Don't worry gypsy, you are working for a club that does excellent promotion. The best in the state. For a alcohol club it is very minors friendly. Couch dances are kind of like a seduction. Its kind more intimate psychologically because of the touching rules but as we all know to get your money you have to connect to the customer through sensuality and conversation. Probably very differnt from the lapdances that you are used to at cheetahs. Big money customers come into the dolphin because of their heavy promotions. Keep with it!

I think giving it only a week wouldn't be enough. After 2-3 weeks you'll likely really have the hang of it.

Talk dirty. You can hook them for 30-40 minutes with some good ol' fashioned phone-sex type of talk.

There are no strip clubs in SW Washington. Washington state prohibits alcohol from being served in "adult" venues. Also, Washington state has a 4 foot rule, preventing entertainers from getting within 4 feet of a customer.

You might be happier in a lingerie modeling venue. I've know lots of girls that prefer that over the club scene. You only work when the customer walks in, there is no stage and no pole dancing, only selling 30 minute VIP type of shows. Be prepared to hustle, though. The customers expect a lot of action for their money in a Lingerie studio. But the girls make bank in those places, like $700 a shift is not unheard of on any given day. The bonus of working in a lingerie studio is that every customer that comes in, is there only for the girls. There is no other reason to visit.

If you are a good independent worker, doing bachelor parties is good money this time of year, too. But you have to have a pretty strong work ethic, as flaky girls don't get call backs on parties that they have blown off.

^ I also suggested to her in another thread that a juice bar might be a good option? I mean...she could work the floor and give lapdances. Oh and check this out (posted in another thread) . Lap dances protected by the Oregon constitution! The lapdancer defendant was working at a juice bar.
