    Default yellow bleached hair

what's the best product that you use to tone down the yellow/orange in bleached hair and make it platinum?

so far, i've tried john freida...it didn't seem to do anything.

the best thing i've used is "shimmerlights." however, in order for it to work, i have to use it every time i wash my hair and leave it on for around 10 minutes.

i also use this toner called "silent snow" by clairol...borne blonde stuff i think...but it didn't work this time. it used to work in the past.

i've heard manic panic "virgin snow" only works on really light blonde hair that is almost white. that seems like it work the best, tho...since it's essentially dying your hair purple...even tho it's not and only counteracting the yellow undertones.

    any suggestions?

What kind of hair bleach are you using and how long do you leave it in? Your hair has to be bleached enough to turn platinum before any after products are going to make much difference.

I agree... if your hair is ALREADY platinum you can use these purple tinted shampoos/conditioners that help keep the yellow (a yellow brought on by environmental factors) out.... but if your hair is not already platinum it will not make a difference.

Dark hair goes through stages before it reaches a natural looking blonde.

If you put bleach on black hair it goes to brown, red, orange, yellow... and then white.

Hair color allows you to tone or fill in that awkward color with something more natural.

Your best bet is to go back to the salon and keep lifting it past the yellow stage or pick a hair color that will compliment what shade your hair is now, so that it looks less yellow... but it wont be angelic white. More like sandy blonde perhaps or even a golden blonde.

If your hair is super dark... I'd avoid going that light blonde because it is a TON of upkeep. That and the bleach may totally fry your hair.

Im already blonde so going super light requires very little effort because there are no orange or yellow stages to go through. But still, the bleach or peroxide makes hair more fragile.

^agreed. If your hair is orange/yellow, all the toner in the world is not going to get your hair platinum. Only applying more bleach will, but it's liekly to leave your hair absolutely wrecked.

To get platinum blond, your hair has to be bleached to the palest possible yellow...like the inside of a banana.

Your best bet at this point is to just dye your hair a dark ashy blond, and condition the heck out of your hair until it has recovered enough to try again.

You can buy a product at salons I know called So Silver or something to that affect by Matrix. It's purple shampoo. It's marketed towards ladies with white hair that turns yellow and brassy or yellow highlights. I think there is a version you can buy in the department or drug store as well. Anyhow, it worked well for me when I was blonde keeping the yellow out. Just don't use too much for too long or it can turn your hair purple. I wouldn't keep it on longer than 2 minutes.

You can bleach it again so it will get lighter. Then go to Sallys beauty supply if you have one around where you live.

Ask for the product by Wella its a toner called "White Lady" and buy some 20 volume developer. Pour the whole bottle of toner into a plastic container then pour the developer into the old toner container (just so you have equal parts) do this twice with the developer. Mix them and apply it.
It will start to turn blue. Which is good. You want to neutralize the orange/yellow. Make sure you have a towel handy to keep on checking the desired color your looking for. As soon as you like the color wash it out. ALWAYS ALWAYS use cool water on blonde hair. And condition it. Remember though if you deep condition your hair alot, it will lift the toner right out and you'll have brassy hair again.

I forgot to mention. DONT use those purple shampoos to wash out your hair with the toner in it. You'll have blue hair.

But you can use them a week later to keep the brassiness down.

I'm also in agreement. I think JS and KK's suggestions are your best bet.

How dark was your hair to begin with. And I'm assuming , from the sound of your post, that you're doing the processing yourself? Just be very careful, if you did have very dark hair and are attempting platinum yourself you can easily fry your hair.

I am not sure what type of bleach the hairdresser used. All I know is that I was under that hairdryer for at least 45 minutes!!

I am actually asian...so I have very dark brown hair.

You went to a salon and your hair came out yellow/orange?

Go back immediately and demand your money back, and corrective coloring performed. No reputable salon should have let you walk out the door like that.

I hate to say it, but you may not be able to get your hair to a platinum blonde... I NEVER lift naturally dark hair to a pale yellow, it's far too damaging, especially if it's a thick, dense, hair type... Some stylists may be willing to do it, but I'd rather turn away a client than ruin the integrity of someone's hair.

Chances are, you lifted to a yellow orange... a blue violet demi permanent hair color will help neutralize the brassiness, but you'll at best be a beige blonde and your hair will gradually fade back to a warm tone.

I partially agree with this statement... If the stylist told you he or she could make you a platinum blonde, you need to ask for your $$$ back and go elsewhere for a color correction. I wouldn't trust this person with my hair.

Agreed. When I was my palest blond, I had just the very front part of my hair bleached to the palest yellow my skin could handle, but that was it. Just a few streaks right near the front. It helped my hair look brighter overall, but only damaged a few very small pieces. The rest of my hair was honey/caramel. That may be an option for you if you want the look of pale blond, but don't want to destroy your hair.
