I'm in a cooking mood, so I am making homemade applesauce and Amish bread.
My house smells soo wonderful. I hope it turns out as good as it smells![]()

WOW!! My small test batch of applesauce is incredible!! It is nothign like store bought. Wow.
I'm gonna have to make a larger batch. This is amazingly good.
Recipe:
( I made a very small batch to test, so you can adjust measurments to make a larger batch)
2 apples ( peeled, cored and cut into chunks)
1/4 cup and 2 tbsp water
2tbsp white sugar ( I used Splenda)
1/4 t. cinnamon. ( I used a little more cause i really like cinnamon)
Put everythign in saucepan, cover and cook for 15-20 minutes. Let cool, and mash with fork. I used a hand held blender cause I like a smoother texture.
So easy, and so good.
About 100 calories
practicially no fat
almost 4 grams of fiber
You can't go wrong with this as a snack.

Wow! That sounds delicious, Kaylinn! Kudos to you for actually making your own homemade applesauce! I'm too damn lazy, I just buy it.![]()
^^ Believe me...Once you make it, you'll never buy it again. It only takes 20 minutes to make, it's super easy, and well worth it.

Mmmm, sounds so good.
One time I was canning a ton of apples, and I boiled them up in this big pot before packing them in jars. The leftover water was like this really intense apple cider that was sooo yummy.
I would love to can my own stuff, but I don't have the patience. Waiting for this bread to rise is fucking killing me. Let it rise an hour, then punch it down and let it rise again.
OMG. I WANT BREAD NOW
My bread is very good as well!
Here's that recipe, if anyone wants healthy, fresh, presertive free bread.
2 cups warm water
1 and 1/2 tbsp. active dry yeast
1 1/2 t. salt
1/4 c. extra virgin olive oil
3 c. Bread flour
3 cups whole wheat flour
( can be made with all bread flour, or all whole wheat, I prefer a half and half mixture)
1/3 cup sugar (I use Splenda)
In a large bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water, then stir in yeast. Allow to proof to a creamy foam
Mix salt and oil into yeast. Add in flour 1 cup at a time.
Knead until smooth
Place in oiled bowl, cover with damp towel and place in oven(turned off)
with a shallow pan of boiling water. ( boil water while kneeding dough, then put water in over in the bowl, it creates a makeshift proofing oven type thing)
Allow to rise in oven for 1 hour.
Punch dough down, knead a few minutes, divide in half. Shape into loaves and plce into 2 loaf pans that have been sprayed with cooking spray, pam, or just oil them.
Allow to rise 30 minutes or until dough rises 1 inch over loaf pans.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. (mine took about 37 minutes)
* both of these recipes were taken from , however, they were both modified to be more healthy.
Thanks for the recipes, I want my kitchen to smell good tooooo! What is good to eat the applesauce with besides bread?
And what are the best type of apples to use?
I just eat applesauce as a snack, but I'm sure you could find many great recipes that use applesauce...For example, applesauce is a great substitute for butter in baking recipes, to lower the fat.
As far as apples go, I used red delicious, but it really depends on your tastes. If you like sweeter, or more tart...You can even use a few differnet types.
Mmmmm, I miss homeade applesauce, won't touch the pre-made kind. It doesn't taste right. My babushka used to make it for me. She added carrots in there plus sugar. It was so awesome, apple-carrot mash, ha!
