Default What do you use to scrub/exfoliate your face?

Just wondering what kind of scrub you guys are using. I need to get a new one. I have Biore's (sux) and the Loreal Microderm (too harsh right now). I prefer something drugstore. Or even something I can make at home. Everything is more expensive here, even drugstore shit, so I don't want to waste my money on a scrub from Sephora. Just need a good cheap one. Thanks ladies!!

ETA: My skin is combo/oily, please say your skin type as well.

I also use St. Ives Apricot scurb, and I have combo oily skin, and I buy the stuff made for acne.

I don't use it daily tho. Just a few times a week. The rest of the time, I use a Clinique wash.

I use Fruit & Passions exfoliating scrub (very round & gentle beads) and Olay heating scrub.

I've been hearing really good things about the MAC scrub though, too.

I use an aveda skin care line to fight the signs of aging. I have normal skin. I recently learned that using particles to scub your skin (friction) reduces the elasticity of your skin. I know this happens over time anyway, but I do what I can. So now I am using a liquid exfoliant from aveda that containes Salyic (sp) Acid. I use it on a cotten ball every other night, face, neck, lips. I love it!

Clean & Clear by Johnson & Johnson have these scrubbing pads you wash your face with. I love it. I use it once a week though. My skin is normal/oily.

During times when I'm oily/breaking out, I'll add a pinch of baking soda to my face wash. It makes a good scrub and deep cleans pretty well. And economical, obviously. I can only use it a couple times a week, though, otherwise it dries my skin out.

My face wash has glycolic and salicylic acid in it, but every few weeks I feel I need a scrub too.

I use the Body Shop's tea tree oil scrub when I need it. It's not too drying, but I don't use it often because I have dry, but break out-prone skin, that doesn't like any cleansers.

I don't use a scrub. I use Aveeno Clear Complexion clensing pads, which have a smoothe side and an exfoliating side. I use the exfoliating side every other day, and the smoothe side every day.

i used the aveeno skin brightening daily scrub for a while and was pretty happy with it. it's a really gentle scrub and not expensive. i still use it every so often.

i would say i probably have combination skin. it can be dry and oily at the same time. ick.

My skin is extremely sensitive but gets oily in the T-zone & I get blackheads there, but rarely pimples. I've been using Clean & Clear Blackhead Clearing Scrub once a week or so for a couple months & I like it more than St. Ives. My skin FEELS like it's glowing after I use it. It makes me feel pretty.

I have sensitive combo skin. I use Clinique 7 day scrub. Not every day though, although it feels gentle enough that I could if I wanted to.

st. ives uses walnut shell powder and corn meal as physical exfoliants. these particles have rough surfaces that will leave microscopic scratches on your skin and are likely to over exfoliate the surface.

you can't see the scratches, but over exfoliated skin is more prone to acne breakouts, having lost layers that help keep bacteria out. these extra layers of cells also help hold moisture, so over exfoliating can cause excessive dryness and lead to premature wrinkles.

products with smooth round beads are much gentler on your skin and exfoliate effectively, rather than excessively. it's best to use physical effoliants sparingly. products with a small amount of a chemical exfoliant, like salicylic acid, tend to be more gentle and better for daily use.

I have had the best results with this stuff called Lady Venus Lemon Scrub. it is really amazing, and the scrubby thingies in it are really small so it doesnt tear up your skin.. All my friends who've used it loooove it. it's 12 bux for a little tub of it and a little buit goes a long way.... unfortunatly I think you have to find a sales person who sells it in your area... lucky me my aunt sells it. I think it's from TX.... If you want to try it PM me and I can order some from her and send it to you/have her send it directly.

I use Clinique 7-day scrub every other day. My skin is a combination of oily and dry. I also love their dramatically different moisturizing lotion.

i have very troublesome skin, very oily in some places, as well as being very sensitive and also very dry in other places.

i have recently been using something from lush called angels on bare faces. it has exfoliating qualities (ground almond) but is so gentle i use it every day to cleanse (it is marketed as a cleanser), sometimes twice a day.
smells awesome too, as can be expected with most lush products, and isn't too expensive. i have tried all sorts of things on my face and have never had such fast, great results.

    pretty cheap too.

    iawtc.

i have combo skin and i love proactiv's renewing cleanser. it is a wash and gentle exfoliant. if you don't want to pay that much, i recommend baking soda and water as a cheap and effective alternative! it is what i use when i run out!

I use St. Ives as well. I never got breakouts or anything.

And another thing.. I have no idea what skin type I have. Forms always say 'oily', 'dry', or 'combination'... but it's not dry.. or oily... or oily in some spots. My skin is soft and smooth all over... I guess it's 'normal' but NO form EVER says 'normal'.

I have a strange obbsession with scrubs... I have like, 4 different ones and sometimes make my own. My all time fave (which I use SPARINGLY) is the La Mer Refiner... The apricot ones hurt my face but I like to use them as body scrubs.

Anyhow, you can always mix sugar (use regular, processed table sugar-the raw stuff is a little too gritty for the face) with honey. Massage the mixture on a clean, dry face and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Both sugar and honey have anti bacterial properties (they used to pack granulated sugar into the wounds of soldiers to keep the area free of infection) but do not dry out the skin.

Ditto on both! I think the charcoal is great for the face. I also love salt & sugar scrubs for the body & have made my own too. Never tried honey, though, Mia, I think I'll do so!

Definitely too coarse for the face or even the rest of your body - but raw sugar and kosher or sea salt are both great to use in scrubs made especially for feet!

I have st Ive's, but I only use that when I am being lazy. I usually use salt. I scrub until my skin feels smooth and then add either a light spf moisturizer for day or heavy lotion for night.
