Default Road rage incident.... Got a question here.

Whats up guys, today on the freeway i had a 2000 Accord coupe tailgating like a mofo. As a response i tap my brakes, downshift, and speed away. About less than a minute later Accord douche pulls up behind me and tails me for about 5 seconds then gets in the lane beside me and trys to "scare" me by coming into my lane, forcing me to move over to the other lane. This goes on for about 2 mintutes then i see him behind me take a picture of my license plate with his phone. Then he speeds away, i make no attempt to follow pursuit. Anyone know what he could/want with my license plate numbers? I got his too by the way.. just in case.

omg this happened to me last year! Some guy tried to run me and my friend off the road and was waving his cell out the window (presumably trying to take a photo). It was really crazy. He followed us all the way to the police station.
At the time we blamed drugs but is this some sort of new phenomenon?

Damn sorry to hear, its douchbags on the road who are to blame. Well im starting to think, cant you find out someone's address by jotting down their license plate?

If the car is registered to your address it's relatively easy to get it yes. Esp if you have a friend in law enforcement.

I'd notify the cops since you have his plate number too. That way..just in case something happens...they cant say "well.if he was threatening you why didnt you tell us?". You'll have a paper trail documeting harassement.

Yeah, where is Fremont? Is it a bad area?

My incident happened in Hollywood at like, 4am so I'm not totally surprised about that one.

Nah i dont provoke anything, i guess it all depends on where you live, what you drive, and how you look. My friend who lives in Oakland, CA has had a gun pulled on him multiple times, (road rage, theft cause they wanted his kicks, etc) It happens to me once and i find it to be a big deal, its nothing out of the ordinary for him. Just cause i wear a fitted hat, white tee im supposedly a "gangsta"...pair that up with my Civic Si hatchy and now i get looks from douchbag "street racers" and the popos trying to bust me for some b.s. reason. Man whenever im on the road ill just play it safe.

This kind of thing is not rare where I live either. Never had a gun pulled on me before, but me and my boyfriend chased/got chased by a guy in a SUV all over town once and the guy threw a cup of water or something in my car on my bf. All because I didn't step on the gas as soon as the light turned green. People get pissed on the road over the simplest stuff. It's so not uncommon IMO.
Anyway, I agree with reporting it, just for peace of mind in case something happens.

You don't even need a friend in law enforcement. it's public record. Walk into the DMV (ok, you being in SoCal, this might take longer), and 5 minutes and 3 bucks later you've got the address.

I don't mean to be a jerk here, but ask yourself what you could have done to avoid this. Instead of downshifting and all that, call the 911 on the spot, report the tailgater with HIS address, and while you're at it, tell them he's trying to provoke you etc. make him sound meaner than he is on the phone. While I'm usually one to take matters into my own hands, you have no idea what the guy is willing to do to get "even" for whatever it is you did.

They may do nothing; they may be able to do nothing, but at the very least, they'll have the complaint on record should the guy show up at your house pissed, and if the guy gets pulled over for something else, it's much less likely the cop is going to let him off with a warning...think of it as helping karma.

    just a thought,

I have a theory that you can guage how well someone drives by how well they navigate their grocery cart through a store. People who are on the wrong side and are oblivious to the fact that someone might want to get past them are the people who are likely to drive in the same manner. And should be shot. Or at least maimed.

Well if he does do something with the plate number, the first thing cops will do is run public records to see who accessed it, and unless this kid has access to allowed recording shared accounts, he's fucked.

Not to mention most phones wont even come out clear.

And if the kid is dumb enough to taunt you while driving like that, he's probably got better things to do than run your number like bitch about his job then hit his girl.

Tapping the brakes when someone is tailgating you is kinda stupid.

Even though him tailgating you is wrong, illegal and dangerous, you tapping the brakes is EVEN MORE dangerous! You really are to blame for exacerbating the situation. You could have caused an accident or enraged him even further to the point something really bad could happen (or both!)

Next time someone is tailgating you, just let them go by/switch lanes/whatever. If they're tailgating, they're obviously already wound up and pissed off. Why make the situation worse? It really doesn't help either of you, and you won't have to worry about what someone is going to do with your license plate #...

You really don't have to "get people back" or "teach them a lesson" (by tapping your brakes trying to scare them) for every small transgression against you (tailgating). Just let it go...

I think it's funny when people ride my ass on the road then swerve around and get beside me...I always smile and wave at them

He can't prove anything. And if he wants to try, you can always point out that he was the one driving recklessly in the first place. He has no damage, no pictures of you driving reckless. Just a license plate picture? If anything, his word against yours, the cops will laugh at him. Case closed.

I had some douche pull that shit while I had my best friend and her 6 month old child in the car. He very nearly slammed into the back of us, and then tailed us into the parking lot, where he found me already on the phone with the police. He then kept saying "I wanna hear what you tell the cops, come on, get out of the car and come here!" Yeah fucking right, like I was really going to do that!

I think he was just trying to scare you. I don't think he can do much. It's your word against his.

I don't care where you live or what you drive there are numerous psychos out there, pedestrians very much included. I drive very short distances normally, & what I encounter in my brief road time is not unlike an obstacle course/scary video game, but very real. The best thing I can practice is denfesive driving, to the best of my ability. Some of the streets are very old & narrow where I live, making it even more difficult.
