Default Shampoo and Conditioner- knock offs just as good

I've been shelling out big bucks for Matrix shampoo and conditioner for years. But lately I've been looking to cut costs and I decided I was going to have to buy Suave and alternate it with my salon shampoo. Went to Walmart. Turns out Suave sells a knock off of my favorite brand for $1.50. I take it home and compare ingredients. Exact. Same. Thing.
I am never buying overpriced salon shampoo again.

^^ I have to agree with that! I like the shampoos, but the conditioners just don't cut it for my hair.. I need intense moisture and suave doesn't do that for me.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

They have the same ingredients, but in different quantities and the quality of those ingredients is vastly different. For normal hair, with no real concerns or damage, you'll probably be fine. But for hair that is damaged, dry, or frizzy, the salon quality has no match.

I used to love Pert and Head and Shoulders Shampoos, and Salon Selectives and Revlon Outrageous (and that stuff smelled fabulous), but now I'm forced to use the expensive stuff. Waaaaaahhhhh. Shampoos are weird, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

I've saved alot of $ since I stopped being what I now call a name brand snob. Alot of generic products are just as good as the name brand stuff. not everything though. Like household cleaning products for example. Those I still buy name brand. But most basic health and beauty items usually have all the same sh*t in them so like the commercial says, why pay more

They won't always have the same quantities like stated above, but many products have generics that are exactly the same. I ingredient compare EVERYTHING and save tons of money.

I go back and forth, but for some reason using more expensive shampoo and conditioner just makes me feel good. I enjoy treating myself and my hair. And I have not yet found anything to match the quality of TIGI Bedhead Dumb Blonde or Fashionista or Moisture Maniac. The Sally Hansen line that is similar (Beyond the Zone or something??) does not leave my hair nearly as silky. I would love some suggestions tho as far as cheaper lines that compare to TIGI.

Yeah I agree; some things you can't scrimp on. I love Tigi

I buy the pump bottles too. I alternate between Tigi and Dove. My hairdresser was just raving about the condition of my hair last trim

I agree that while shampoo can sometimes be skimped on..conditioner can NOT. At least not for my hair, which is really dry and damaged from years of coloring and heat styling.

I LOVE Paul Mitchell...esp. the tea tree oil lemon and sage line. It smells SOOOO good and my hair gets nice and silky. And cruelty free..so bonus!
It isnt too expensive either. I get it at the cheap salon nearby (Hair Cuttery I think) and they always have sales where I get a decent sized shampoo and cond. for about $18.

I buy the pump bottles as well and also but whatever my heart desires at the time. I also love their Catwalk line - the thickening spray makes my hair so lush and sexy. The S Factor stuff rocks, but is more expensive

i suggest that people read through paula begoun's "don't go shopping for hair care products without me", as it has product reviews and goes in depth to the claims of hair products and what you are able to do with your hair. tons of generic shampoos and conditioners work just as well as the pricier products because they have they exact same ingredients of the same grade and same amounts.

i myself am both a fan of tigi and tresseme.

I hear you! Although Paul Mitchell was NOT a friend to my hair (it made mine limp and greasy for some reason) I do have to use heavy conditioners. I also started to use leave in conditioners that are light so they don't weigh down my hair, but also moisturize. I don't care about shampoos as long as they smell good and do the job, but heavy conditioner is a must!

I love the Arctec naturals color depositing shampoo. There is no store-brand that can match it. I'm dark with bright red highlights right now and its really keeping the red fresh! I use Cherry Bark and its about $12 for a smaller bottle but worth it!

For conditioner I used to use Biolage as well, but now use the BioInfusion from Walgreens, and that seems to work just as well for cheaper.

With my fine, straight hair, the trick is to occasionally alternate with good old Neutrogena. Otherwise the hair gets greasy.

My hair is engaged to Aussie brand shampoo and conditioner. Though she occasionally cheats on Aussie with Tresseme.

Seriously, I love Aussie conditioner. I have long hair that's prone to tangling, since it's in desperate need of a cut. I use the Aussie conditioner, and my brush just melts through tangles. I love that shit.

Tresseme color treated formula is the best for my dark locks. It keeps it so shiny! I went off of it onto Walmart brand for a while and my hair began to break and be dry. Went to Aussie and Tresseme again, and I look like the Goddess of Hair!

The Matrix line has really gone the way of the Nexxus. I used it for years, but now my hair just does. not. like. it. Not even the conditioner.
If I want to go cheap, I use the olive oil line from Regis. Otherwise, I am pretty stuck on the higher end stuff; it just tends to do my hair better overall. Since I am naturally a dirty blonde who dyes her hair to about 3 shades lighter; I need the good stuff pretty often. Right now I am using the S factor conditioner; and love it--but actually had to supplement with Redken All Soft Heavy Cream for a short time. My hair just drank it up.

I do rec that olive oil line; it helps like putting it on your hair does but not so heavy. Didn't hurt my color either.

it sounds like your hair has buildup. some shampoos can cause buildup if they have conditioning agents, which isn't a bad thing at all. all you have to do is once or twice a week is wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo and i gurantee your regular shampoo will work they way it did originally. my favorite clarifying shampoo is neutrogena's anti-residue formula.

If I remember correctly, Kerastase is made in Spain and owned, manufactured, and distributed by Loreal... Not that it matters.

Here's the salon locater for Kerastase.
