    Default Winced lower back. Ouch.

While stretching a day ago I felt this mild "pop." Completed my stretches and crunches with no problem, then did the ellyptical and called it a day. On the 3rd and July 4th I walked a lot, too. Anyhow, today, it's uncomfortable when walking (fine when sitting). Any suggestions for care?

P.S. Also any ideas for non-lateral lower back stretches? I think that's my problem: I'm very stiff when it comes to twisting in that area.

Sounds to me like you might have pinched a T level nerve. Consider seeing a chiropractor to release the pressure on the nerve or nerves. Also a chiropractor will give you a list of stretches that will help give you a more flexible lower back.

They will probably also give you a list of movements that will ncrease your core strenghth which helps prevent re-injury.

In the mean time take anti inflamatory meds like advil. Hope you are feeling better soon!

Use a cold pack... not heat. I'll get you a referral in your area if you'd like.... I'll PM you.

That's very nice, MissT. Thanks. And I was going to apply heat, so your advice is welcome. Back feels better than a day ago. Mostly I have to avoid trying to muscle through the pain. Have tried that before and ended up with even more pain (not to mention an unsightly "S" curve to my torso).

It's actually better to walk than it is to sit... so avoid that if you can. If you're laying down... put a pillow under your butt if you're on your back. If you're on the side, put a pillow between your knees.

Good luck and let me know how that referral works out for you.
