Default Mother Donates Eggs So Daughter Can Give Birth

Mother donates eggs so daughter can give birth
    Wed Jul 4, 12:46 AM

MONTREAL (AFP) - In a medical first, a Canadian mother has frozen some of her eggs so her seven-year-old daughter can give birth should her genetic disorder make her infertile as an adult, a physician said Tuesday.

If Flavie Boivin should become infertile, her mother's eggs could make it possible for her to give birth nonetheless, to a child who would be not only her offspring, but also her half-sister or half-brother.

"It's the first time in the world" for a mother-daughter egg donation, said Seang Lin Tan, professor and chairman of obstetrics and gynecology at McGill University, Montreal, and medical director of its reproductive center.

Be very careful if you make a woman cry, because God counts her tears. The woman came out of a man's rib. Not from his feet to be walked on. Not from his head to be superior, but from the side to be equal. Under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved."

I think I'm probably going to be the only person thats finds this a little sick and weird...I'm sorry but I don't consider that being offspring, that will only be her half sibling.....Something about it is just wrong....

I think it's odd too. But there was the mother who acted as a surrogate for her daughter..carrying the embryo created with her daughters egg and son in laws sperm. That was odd too.

Whatever floats your boat I guess. If the girl was REALLY hellbent on having a child that was biologically linked to her, this would be a way to do that.

It will be interesting to see down the road what the kid decides to do.

My aunt was going to have fertility treatments, and I considered giving her some of my eggs. However, that's just weird, as it would result in indirect sex with my uncle. Yick, he can keep his little swimmers far away from any part of me.

In the event that Miss Flavie has more than one such child, wouldn't that make her offspring not only her half-sister/half-brother but also make the kids each other's half-aunt/half-uncle AND half-niece/half-nephew?

How are they going to explain this to the children? "Hey Billy, just so you know you're my son AND my half brother!"

That's kind of weird... Wouldn't the child end up being retarded in some way if they did that??

    Best of intentions i'm sure...
And like they said, the daughter is a little kid at the moment so who knows if she'd even consider it.

Why would it? It would be biologically the mom and future son-in-laws child. No incest. The daughter would only be carrying the embryo.

Ugh. The crazy fertility thing disappoints me. If you can't have a kid but want one, adopt. Plain and simple it seems. There are plenty of kids out there without having to have yer mom's.

The mom said she just wanted the opportunity to be there if it was needed later on in life. Her intentions are good if you ask me. Not saying I would do it if I were the daughter, but I would be very appreciative.

Oh yea, that makes sense... Okay, then I guess it's just plain weird. Personally, I'd rather have a donor egg than my mom's. Ick!

i guess i'm in the minority. i think it's awesome for her mom to do that!

i would do it in a heartbeat if for some reason my daughter couldn't have her own. i've heard of many sisters/cousins/aunts that have done this...why not mom?

    i mean, it's not she's f'ing her or anything.

as for adoption, that may not be what she wants. some people really have a need to bare their own biological children. i can understand that and support them. i can honestly say that i don't know that i would feel as close to a child if i adopted rather than birthed them myself.

but who knows, maybe she'll want to adopt. she's only 7 right now, she doesn't know what she wants. hell maybe she won't even want kids!

i still think it's very a sweet, thoughtful and selfless thing for the mom to do.

I agree with you. Especially about adoption. I am all for adoption and feel terrible for the children out there who have no families, but it's definitly not what every woman wants and I can understand why.

Maybe it's just me but even if she decided to use her mothers egg, that still isn't her child to me...it's a sibling.
