    Default chronic constipation

This may be TMI for some, that's why I titled it as I did. Anyways, I can't get regulated. I take Metamucil in the powder form disolved in water every night and eat a high fiber diet. I still only get relief twice a week. I was on a softener but it didn't help much either. Before my period it gets really painful. Any ideas?

That kind of fiber is useless unless you drink tons of water with it. Are you drinking enough?

I drink about two glasses of water, around 6 glasses of unsweet tea and two cups of 1% milk daily.

I have to drink a full glass of apple juice every day and it seems to do the trick. Adding Benefiber to my drinks only worked a little bit but the apple juice seems to...ahem...clear everything right out.

Nope, fiber aids constipation. The BRAT diet will stop you up. Bananas, rice, applesauce and toast is what BRAT stands for. I'll just take a little of what you have and you have a little of what I have then we'll even each other out, lol.

Tea (technically) most of the time has caffeine in it which makes you pee. Stick to just water for a week and you might see a difference. Try starting with 2 liters first and if that doesn't work go up to a gallon. If you are working out 2 liters a day should be easy.

If there is not enough water in your diet then the fiber supplements and good diet are useless when combating constipation. All that unused fiber will stop you up.

^^Is it the ballerina diarrhea tea? I had a friend who drank that stuff and OMG she had to shit all the time, and it was like right effing then, no time to look for a place. It worked, to say the least.

    yah "dieters " tea.

It has senna or however it's spelled in it

It usually works overnight for me. NOTHING works right then and there not even fucking suppositories.

But I think with my abuse of laxatives Im the exception. of things not working EVER unless it's that damn tea

tart... imma be 100% honest here... i would NOT recommend dieter's, ballerina, or any type of tea/fiber containing stimulant laxative/diuretic on a thread here.... frankly you have been worrying me lately and i want to know that YOU aren't going back to this stuff... from one ED to another the posts about cleanses and such simply worry me...

as to OP: Oat bran, psyllium, BRAT diet, and a SMALL bit of senna/casara sagrada JUST to get things moving- don't stay on the latter herbs- they cause paristalsis (force your bowels to move) and are ultimately addictive/unhealthy.

Just because I have an ED doesnt mean can't give a suggestion. She asked. I answered. I'm not promoting anything. IT's an AIDE for constipation. By no means am i saying go out and do it daily.

one reason alone I have to skip otu of threads entirelly on here half the fucking time because I outted myself for an issue, that anything I say sends people off .

    This thread isnt about me.

    Or my ED

Sounds like you are having digestion problems and not necessarily roughage problems.

Probiotics. Take them daily...drink lots of water, keep a high fiber (and eat enough protein) diet and be regularly happy.

Do not drink "dieter's" tea. It's a diuretic. It may get the bowels moving, but it does so by flushing the water from your system.

Also, TWO glasses of water? You eat a high fiber diet and you drink TWO glasses of water? Drink 8 and you'll see a difference.

I don't care what the "new" studies say...you do NOT get your daily req of water intake by drinking pop, tea, and milk. You get your daily req of water intake by drinking plain old water. Spruce it up with lemons and limes...ice it up...whatever, but leave it without adding tea or anything else and learn to enjoy water. If you still want to drink tea and milk AFTER you drink your 8-10 glasses of water per day...go ahead. But no more only 2 glasses of H2O per day. No-no.

    BTW...Milk can cause constipation, too.

    Probiotics. Get them. Now.

no need to snap... sorry! i never said you couldn't answer! nor did i try to make it about you- i apologize for not sending a pm. then- my bad. i simply posted it here because i didn't think your suggestion was appropriate for most people who DON'T have a tolerance from laxative abuse. i AM allowed to contradict advice... after all, i have knowledge on the subject too.... worked in supplement stores for a long time and took enough of the shit myself. everything from psyillum (mild) to supposi-you name its to magnesium down-the hatch stuff... those are interesting... but seriously, no need to snap just because someone is concerned. i just voiced it in the wrong place & i take responsibility for it. SORRY.

Op: fiber1 cereal. yes yes. and like vg said... hydrate well.

^ yep I agree. And usually with Probiotics you can tell a difference ( depending on the kind you get ) within a week

I use to use Primal Defense. I swear, it cured up my IBS , yeast infections went away , like everything changed. Oh and I didnt get sick at all while on em'.

I forget who makes primal defense although you can google it. I paid 75 for a bottle . you start out taking 2 a day and work up to 6 a day then back down to 2. Drink basically a bottle of water with each dosage.

    Great suggestion!

BTW the stuff at like cvs isn't as good just IMO. Spend the money and get the good stuff.

^ Yes, the best place to get your probiotics is Whole Foods (IME). The stuff at GNC isn't always as good, either.

Get the kind that are constantly refridgerated. It keeps them active that way...otherwise, they won't be active. No good.

To the OP - 2 glasses of water is not enough. The recommended daily intake is 8 glasses.

I have trouble with constipation because I suffer from IBS and also because I have an ED.

My advise is go visit a doctor because twice a week is def not normal. You might have IBS and nolt knoow it/

Prune juice will get those bowels moving!

If your taking fiber supplements then you NEED TO UP YOUR WATER INTAKE. You need water to push that fiber out because it becomes a paste like texture. Fiber without adequate fluids will not work.

Definitely get some probiotics (beneficial bacteria) in to your system.

Also cut down on the processed foods because that will cause you to become bungged up.
