    Default Something to ponder

So, now that I have quite a bit of time on my hands before school starts next week I was just thinking about a conversation my grandmother and I had. We were discussing how back in her day people had absolutely no conveniences yet all the time in the world for one another and today with all the conveniences available to us we have no time for one another. My conclusion is that we also have more to do these days with women working as well as men and all sorts of things to make us as busy or not busy as we like. Any other thoughts?

Of course you know that I feel ya, as much as I complain about having so much going on right now. I think the hours go by much quicker as we get older and we add responsibilities. It was nice to kill 2 birds with one stone last night. I hardly ever get to see my brother anymore

By the way...I'm gonna have to take a big stick with us next time so that I can beat the guys away from you lol.

Maybe carry around a "we card" sign to keep the 18 year olds away, lol.

I have noticed that my attention span is less than was it before I starting using the internet. It has become worse over time too. I seem to be multi tasking even in my down time. For example I can often be found watching a movie or tv show while surfing the net at the same time.

I have had a reminder on my laptop to sit down and write snail mail to several family members for almost two weeks now too. I send them emails and stuff but I had an idea to do some old school letters and I even bought nice stationary and envelope stickers and everything. But I keep getying side tracked by things like stripperweb, youtube, myspace and I-tunes so I haven't sat down and done the snail mail yet

When I went to see my Mom this past spring I made myself leave my laptop at home. I checked my email once the whole week and to my surprised I didn't go into internet withdrawl. It was actually kind of nice. Funny thing is that I gave my Mom an I-pod for her B-day while I was there. She loves it too. I'm like a tech addict/dealer, LOL!

I know I wish I paid more attention to people and helped them more.

Very, very valid point. I get caught up in this more than I'd like to admit. Sad.

basically, information technology developments over the past 50 years has made everyone's 'world' much larger, with much more information to assimilate.

also, economic and social policy changes over the past 50 years have made it necessary for (almost) everyone to spend more hours working in order to make ends meet than was the case 50 years ago - leaving less time for all other pursuits.

However, it's necessary to keep in perspective that one major reason that American life was able to be 'slower' 50 years ago, with more economic opportunities and fewer hours spent working, is that America benefitted from blowing up the factories of all of our foreign competitors in Europe and Asia, as well as the killing off of millions of their workers, as a result of World War 2 !

ist strange if you look at the last 50-100 years in the US vs Europe.

In that time allot of the innovations in the US made for more convienance, the ability to multi-tasks, cell phone pops in my head as I am typing this. Now my boss can call me at home, work, or if I'm out on my bike after work, we're always connectoed.

Though in eutope it seems like they have forgone the convinenaces to some extent, and still live life. I mean hell they have "holidays" in Englsind, I know in France pretty much all of August is a national vacation.

Makes me wonder where did we go wrong.....if I didn't have a PDA/cell hone, etc but had more time to spend with poeple would you take it?
