    Default Sushi!!

So I'm doing my best to eat healthier. I am lazy as fuck, and hate to cook. Kids are at their dads for the summer and Chris is always gone. So cooking for one, kinda sucks personally.

I rather just order out or go pick up fresh things from whole foods. Ordering out around here seems to be pizza, and fried food. I can't eat that shit. I feel like blech later.

I am addicted to sushi and for the last coupla weeks that's all I want. So I'm trying new things and honest to god I feel "better" and I'm having regular BMs without any aide.

I'm addicted to Dragon Rolls, Spicey tuna and EEL. For those that eat sushi, what do you like and what I"m seriously considering only eating sushi for awhile ..expensive I know but I dont eat red meat as it is for the most part and Im sorta burnt out on vegan food and Turkey burgers.

    What else should I try?

First I have to ask, which kind of Dragon Roll? I've seen two kinds so far, and they're rather different. I tend to get the same ol' shite when I go for sushi. The Dragon Roll that is an eel roll with avocado on the outside, spicy octopus rolls, spicy conch rolls, yellow tail rolls, tuna cucumber rolls, MPDs, and a special tuna roll with conch and avocado. As far as non-rolly goodness, I don't eat that as much anymore, and I really dunno why. I stick with tuna tataki, shrimp, octopus, yellow tail if it's firm that day, and white tuna. I always rock the seaweed salad and the negimaki (but thats usually beef not fish, depends on where you go)... I have a take out menu from a Thai/Japanese place near me that has some fun rolls that seem to be rather unique to them in this area, lemme try and find it and list some more for ya.

Ok, the Dragon Roll down here has shrimp and um... Tempura, I think it might have eel... avocado...

The one I loved was simply eel with cucumber, in a roll, topped with avocado and masago, drizzled with eel sauce. Rawr!

Oooh, I found some JPGs of that Thai/Japanese restaurant's rolls. Sweet!

On the second JPG, I had their Beauty & The Beast Roll. It was divine!

You should be able to get sushi-grade fish and carve your own sashimi, inbetween prepared stuff. I'm not much of a fan of eel, but I've even tried jellyfish from a place in Philadelphia. I usually stick to tuna, yellowtail and salmon for my fish choices, though.

I want to start by thanking you for starting this thread. It is 7 am here and there is not a sushi shop open for several hours. I want sushi and I want it now! **Stomping my feet and pouting**

My favorite is tuna closely followed by Yellow Tail. I also enjoy eel from time to time, California Rolls, and I recently have had a pickle roll that I like a great deal.

If you ever fly Northwest Airlines and have a connection in Detroit. Check out the Japanese restaraunt in that terminal (I can't remember the name of it). It has good eats...

I like beef tataki. I don't like raw fish, but I will eat some raw beef all day long.

Oh, and tofu salad with ginger dressing!

I also like that spicy lobster roll with that pinkish spicy mayo drizzled on it.

Salmon is always great of course. I also love shrimp gyoza (does that count as sushi?) and Philadelphia rolls. OMG somebody get me out of this thread.

Mmmmm, sushi!! My fave is hamachi. There is this South American mackeral type fish that I like that actually tastes like hamachi, and not like yucky mackerel. Also, I love the rolls with rice paper. Seaweed is good, but the rice paper rocks.

Oh, and hot rolls from Umi. They are all cooked fish with that spicy mayo shit. Used to love em w some saki bombs! That's a shot of sake in a glass of Kirin Ichiban beer....

Hmmm.......I personally like Nigiri's better than rolls. It gives you a better taste of the fish, and thus, the quality of your local sushi bar.

If you like Unagi/ fresh water eel, you may want to try Anago/sea eel, as Unagi may soon be at a premium, since we've lost one major source of farmed Unagi (China, we're not importing many types of seafood anymore)

    My personal faves include
    Unagi
    Anago
    Hamachi
    Sake
    Ika
Oh-Toro (calm down, it's healthy fat)
    Kani
    Katsuo
    Kaibashira

All yummy.....the texture of Kaibashira takes some getting used to though :o)

Ha! When I used to travel 3 out of 4 weeks for work I did too! If I had an option for a connecting city I would always go through Detroit and have miso soup and a veggie roll there

Luv it all! Sadly, the restaurant I frequented for it closed awhile ago. They have another branch, but it's not that convenient. The only close place I can get it nearby is Whole Foods, & they're rather high for it. Also, I just bought but haven't tried, (from Jewel Foods) a sushi making kit. I wouldn't attempt the raw kind, but it would be fun w/crab, shrimp, etc.

Oh come on...be brave. I had food poisoning once and it was not too bad. Just 12 hours of extreme pain in which I wish I were dead. Other than that, it was fine.

How about, from Trader Joe's, cooked mussels (delish) w/spagetti, or whatever pasta? W/a nice (pre-packaged) salad, some crisp rolls (bought from Whole Foods or Jewel in frozen section. Do you like to grill? I used a small outdoor grill for stuff, & cook a couple things at a time, keep in fridge. example: 2 chicken breasts or wings, shread meat for home made burritos.

No, thanks! I've had food poisoning myself, (not from sushi). I'd actually be more afraid of parasites. I prefer to buy ready-made (again the raw kind) only from Whole Foods.

I lovelovelove Philly rolls. One of the places I go to adds a little tempura crunchiness to theirs, and it's lovely. I'm a big fan of tamago, too, the egg cake/omelet thingee. I prefer squid over octopus. Softshell crab freaks me right out, and I'm one of the only sushi enthusiasts I know that hates eel. Great. I want sushi now. And some miso soup. And a salad with that crazy creamy ginger dressing. And a Purple Haze! That's sake and a splash of Chambord...very nice! The either some green tea ice cream or maybe some of those awesome fried banana things with honey. Oh yes.
