Default making money on the web?

I'm just curious. I'm a web designer looking into getting into "modeling" websites but am not sure how many strippers actually look to the web as another form of income. Have you or any any of your friends used the internet as a form of income to draw customers? Any cam shows or photos or videos of you that you have done for customers? I'm just looking for percentages of strippers that have done any online work. I'm not asking you to work for me...
Feel free to let me know what sites you have worked for or own, and if this line of work is acceptable to club owners.
    Thanks!
I look forward to all your responses!

I used to operate an adult pay website and webcam back in the 'good ol days' of the internet. However I have now shut down these operations because they became less and less profitable for the following reasons ...

    A. competing website and webcam material gradually became more and more XXX oriented, leading to increasing customer expectations that went well beyond the point of my personal 'comfort zone'

    B. changes in adult web based credit card processing charges extracted an ever increasing percentage of gross website revenues in the form of annual fees, processing charge percentages and holdbacks, to the point where 20% of gross revenues was being collected.

    C. increasing piracy / hacking and increasing bandwidth costs led to ever increasing monthly bandwidth bills - which at the end approached 50% of gross revenues

    D. compliance requirements with the new Tracy Lords law (i.e. Section 2257) effectively forced independent webmasters and webcam models to open their private lives to the Gov't

    E. using a 'proxy' website / webcam host to eliminate the above problems also meant handing over 50% of gross revenues to the web host.

Ever used a Website or photos/vids to drive customers to come see you at the club? What about using it with companies like ccbill (my plan) about 20% is taken but you also don't have to pay processing fees or handle chargebacks. Also what did you pay (ballpark) to keep your site updated monthly? ( I was gonna offer designwork for a %)

Any other uses for your site? Merchandise, dvd's, clothing, anything not mentioned? Can you give any advice on what to charge for membership and what MUST be prvided for that fee? I plan to run only non-nude or tasteful nude sites. Any money in non-hardcore?

As a chick who would much rather not have to do hardcore on her site to make money, I will say there isn't much money in a non-hardcore site, at least not in my experience. Dudes automatically assume that my site should have hardcore content, or they whine and bitch about it.

Sadly, I use Myspace for most of my stuff that isn't xxx content. It's simple, free, and I can't put hardcore stuff on it, so there is no expectation.

No, I've got a site too, but it's a pay site with xxx content. They are a pain in the ass IMO.

So, you use Myspace to get people to: 1. Visit your pay-site and 2. To advertise your live appearances? Does it work well?

Yeah, that's pretty much what I do. It works very well, the only thing that sucks is all the wankers bugging me on occasion. Other than that, it serves it's purpose.

Interesting topic (and this is my first post to this site)! I've never done a hardcore site before, nor have I done a pay site, but I have had tasteful nude photos of myself online. I got a lot of positive feedback from my site. Some guys actually do get tired of hardcore, and some are even a bit (not a lot, mind you, but a bit, lol) turned off by it. I think in some ways, the harder stuff makes things less personal while when everything is not right there in front of them, it makes them wonder and their minds get to wandering.

About listing when/where you will be: that isn't a little dangerous? (I'm thinking stalker-types). (Well I guess it's no dangerous than telling customers when you'll be working, but just wanted to get some input there).

I believe there's a way to block msgs- you can put up an away msg- but then you aren't able to get any at all. Have you ever found legitimate work through Myspace?

I'm a feature, so listing when and where I am going to be somewhere is how I get people to come see me when I am at a booking. Putting in on Myspace is the easiest way for people to find out my schedule.

I know many porn stars and nude models and most agree it is hard to make any real money with a website. They are time consuming and there is just too much free porn and nudity on the web.

I know some of what I say will sound hypocritical but I do have a website and it makes me a decent amount of money. Not huge but it pretty much pays the mortgage which is nice. I am non-nude on it and pose in only implied nude fashion.
But my site sells a product you can get anywhere else so it works. My site sells “SnakeBabe”
Not just photos of me but I have my journal in it, behind the scenes of photo shoots and TV shows I am on. It is here my fans can read about me, who I’m seeping with, what I do from day to day and on and on…
It is also the only place you can find my sexiest pictures. I do not shoot with other photographers for that reason. If you want me you have to come to me.
So my fans are loyal and stick with me because they like me. It not ONLY about sexy pictures.

My site also gets me work. It is a billboard on the internet superhighway that allows people to find me and hire me for their bachelor parties or corporate events.

So I say give some thought of your marketing before you start your site.

    Hugs and Hissessss,
    Maria

I have a site with a free and an upcoming pay section. I only have a little bit of nude stuff, and it's all artistic nudes... nothing actually graphic. I also utilize MySpace, LiveJournal, and several sites dedicated to BDSM. Most of the money I make is via my store, tribute buttons, and using the site to direct customers to the club I dance at/clients to get sessions. I do rather ok with it. I tend to make more from the site than I do dancing anymore. Which is fine by me!

CCBill won't take Visa payments without a $750 deposit for "high risk" businesses. So be prepared to deal with that.

Personally, I don't pay anything for my website (one of the perks of having an IT bf) but I can't say I've ever really made enough money to pay someone if I had to. For me it's a fun hobby that gets me some free presents here and there and when I'm in clubs (rarely now with school) gets me some in person fans.

Everything I've done has been pretty hardcore. I can't imagine making money with softcore stuff. Plus all the 2257 rules still apply to nude content. And let me tell you, 2257 is a pain in the arse.

All I have to say is THANK GOD for the internet. I do very well with my website and it's helped me branch out into other areas (glamour modeling, hosting events, etc). I make a very good living as a webcam girl. I actualy host an online talk show called Red T-back (real exotic dancers talk back) - that primarily covers issues pertaining to working as a dancer AND webcam girl - the site has lots of links that can help you get started as a cam girls - check it out.

How much would you say is needed for a dancer to spend to start her own site?

You are aware this is a VISA limitation and would have to be paid anywhere right?
I have run some e-commerce sites before and we intentionally left visa out because of the $750 merchant fee...
FYI, high risk is any business that doesnt have $1million + (or some unreasonably high $) in the bank to prove credit worthiness...

I know that the $750 is done by VISA but there were some companies who (because they were the money handlers) were able to set you up and use VISA without the fee. Mostly ticket sale type gateways to get into private website areas.

I didn't know anything about the high-risk being linked to a $1 million bankroll. With another web-based business (not adult) I had no problem processing Visa cards. I was told that the risk was directly related to the fact that it was pornography.

I don't have any experience of running a porn site, though I run half a dozen financial sites for myself. I have my hosting with three different companies and I have looked at a number of other hosting providers too. From what I have seen, most companies do not want to host adult sites.

I would guess that to find a company that will accept a site you'll need to pick some sites that you like and then do a dns search to find out who does the hosting and contact those firms.

From what I can gather, the costs are nothing like the freebie deals we see for normal sites elsewhere, much more expensive.

I find MuseCube to be one of the best for getting paying offers, you also get your own person website as well. Also paid models does well too. I used to be on OMP but not that much paying work.

So here's the Big question, Is anyone from this thread interested in discussing a website of their own?
I'm open for ideas and willing to do design and hosting...as long it doesn't get too distasteful...
