    Default IUD weirdness

I dont think that this is very common considering situations, so i dont wanna scare anybody from trying one, coz it has been great, minus these past few wierd days.

I had a copper IUD inserted two weeks ago. I was so thrilled to get it. I am allergic to condoms, pills(alease..sp?) and veeeery allergic to the depot.

I have only had a lil bit of bleeding and no really bad pains. until recently.
I have never had kids fyi.

On Saturday the pain started horribly. half way through the day is when it struck. It was so bad that i ended up crying in the S-bahn station... coz i was hardly able to walk. so i had to sit or stop walking quite a few times on the way home. I wasnt able to go to the doc coz they were closing early on saturday. in the evening I started having contractions and started bleeding, som, but not lots. The iud didnt come out. Then when i fell asleep that night there was no pain. I did take and pain meds coy i was undecided if i wanted to go to a hospital and if i did then i wouldnt want to had my meds conflict with hospital ones. So i decided to deal and become a stronger person. I did lie in the tub with warm water with did help quite a bit.

Sunday i laid in bed most the day. Far less pains. I noticed some of the pains happed some time after i ate. (both days).

So today i went to the gyno and had everything checked out. Far far less pain. didnt start and only some in the evening.
The doc gave me an ultrasound and we saw that the iud is still perfectly fit in place, has not budged at all. and there is no inflammation.
So the doc and I decided to leave it in. I would rather keep it if i can.

She said that the body is still getting used to it. and it will accept it eventually.
She said the bleeding is normal.
I discovered when i had painful contractions, if flexed and tightened all of my pelvic muscles, it help stop the pain and prevent some of the contraction type thingys.

I still havent taken any pain killers yet (I usually have a abnormally high pain tolerance). i would rather not meds if i dont have to.
does anybody have ideas how ease pain or help reduce body weirdness?

i don't have one, so I can't say from experience. All I know is I am shocked that a doctor gave you one... My gyno won't give any type of IUD to anyone who hasn't has kids. The uterus isn't strected out like if you had been pregnant, and it can't handle the IUD well. I would have loved to get a copper one too, no hormones, but I would seriously consider getting it checked out by a different doctor. Not to freak you out or anything, but it just doesn't seem right that they did this.

I have a Mirena IUD and experienced the same amount of pain and bleeding. Prolonged bleeding and heavy cramping are normal side effects, unfortunately. Ibuprofen and warm baths helped with the pain.

I dont have one in any more, but I remember reading that it can cause pain when you are ovulating, and from memory I used to get cramps when ovulating, and I think it can make mensrual cramps worse.... I had mine in after having a baby but I think I recall reading that these symptoms can be more severe if you haven't had a birth.
Good luck I hope it gets better, if you have only one partner it is a wicked form of contraception.

I was in severe pain but right when I first got mine. I almost went to the ER it hurt so bad and I called my doctor at 11 p.m. and had her paged. Turned out my body was just getting used to it and after a while I forgot it was even there. Weird that yours took a while to hurt but if it's still in place I wouldn't worry. I found drinking wine helped the cramping a lot.

oh, and I got mine 4 years ago and have never been pregnant. I have the Mirena.

Most gyn's will give IUD's to women who haven't had children now. It's solely a matter of uterus size, the majority of uteri are big enough for an IUD even if there have been no pregancies

Your gyn probably hasn't gotten the memo yet, this is a fairly recent development.

(if you go on the Paraguard and Mirena websites they cover all of this.

My Mirena hurts like hell when it went in, and for about a week afterwards. Since then, it's only when I ovulate and menstruate. Alternate Motrin with Ibuprofen ever two hours. And make sure to eat when you take the meds. Don't want to burn a hole in your tummy.

I've been spotting and bleeding off and on since the insertion. It's normal to spot/bleed for a few months afterward.

About the same deal here. Sometimes it's enough for a tampon, most often not.

I had a paragard (the copper IUD) in for about 2 years. I ended up having really bad cramps and periods that would last up to 3 weeks. luckily I wasn't getting aenemic or anything, but my bf and I were getting really sick of it. I switched to a Mirena (paragard removed and Mirena inserted same day) and had cramps for maybe one day after insertion, and no pain subsequent. My periods have been so much shorter, which is good. Anyway, pain is a very very common side-effect of IUD's. Especially the paragard. I would highly recommend giving it three months to allow your body minimum time to become accustomed to the IUD and if you're still having problems, then definitely talk to your gyn. Just my advice.

Isn't Ibuprofen just the generic name for Motrin? I'd alternate it with Tylenol (acetaminophen).

I have the Mirena IUD and I've never been pregnant.

I bled for 2 weeks after insertion with severe cramps. The bleeding turned into occasionally spotting that lasted for about 3 months. Most of the cramping went away in a month. By "cramp", I mean that it felt like someone was twisting a knife in my uterus. I went through bottles of Tylenol and tossed in a few Vicodin. Delicious.

My first period with the IUD was hell as the severe cramps came back for a few days and I bled for about 7-10 days. My periods before were about 3-5 days long. My second period has fewer cramps; my third, normal cramps. I don't get many periods now because Mirena releases hormones.

The non-period cramps should go away in time. Because you have the copper-T IUD, your period may be a little heavier and you may cramp more than before. Though, I doubt it would feel unbearable like it does immediately following insertion.

Well, great, this is going to be fun. I just had a Paragard inserted this morning and she was down there quite a while since apparently I have a tiny cervix. I too have never had kids, just one pregnancy that was terminated very early and also have a small uterus. But I have been on hormonal bc for years and would really like a break but also would like to avoid pregnancy for oh, ever.

I'm glad to see all of this info so I don't freak out. Fortunately my doc said she's reachable all weekend.

wow this is all a little disheartening...I was considering an IUD (never been pregnant).

I just got sick of fucking with my hormones with BC...it caused so many problems for me, including my hair coming out in droves (months later it's still doing this) which is really upsetting me.

I talked to my mother about an IUD and she damn near screamed at me and told me not to do it..

Why did she scream at you about it?

I was crampy the day I got it but better since. A very slight amount of spotting.

I told my mother that is what I wanted to do and she went. "ABSOULTELY NOT IT WILL PERFORATE YOUR UTERUS BLAH BLAH BLAH!".....I've been reading up on it and apparently that's pretty rare!

I get a little annoyed when my mother does shit like that, especially since she has a medical background..she should know better.

Also, my mother likes to lie about things like that because she thinks i'm dumb enough to not know better...although I don't know what the motivation behind lying about an IUD would be..

I'm still interested in doing it though..hopefully my uterus isn't too small, as I am an exceptionally tiny girl everywhere else haha.

I've posted in other threads about IUD's. I absolutely love mine. Before my kiddo I was using the pill and hated everything about it. And I can't do condoms unless I want to look like my puss got trapped in a vacuum!

^^ yup, I can't STAND the pill. I've tried the patch, and 3 different pills...can't stand it. I don't like jacking up my hormones. Never got headaches before HBC, now even months after stopping I still get headaches. And they messed my system up. I used to be able to feel when I was ovulating...not anymore. All sorts of problems.

IUD sounds like the best option for me personally. I think at my next exam coming up I'm going to talk to my doctor about it...see what she has to say.

I requested an IUD and my doctor suggested I try the ring. I had many of the same crappy side effects from oral bc pills that are mentioned above so I was at my wit's end. I've now been on the ring for 2 years or so and love it. I was too worried about the possibility of the IUD attaching to the walls of my cervix and having to have it surgically removed... I don't have insurance and I hate the thought of someone digging in my vag. Other than my man, ha.

I was wondering for u ladies who have the Copper IUD. How did it effect u period. i don't mean how heavy but did it make it come late? The first month of having mine i had quite a bit of bleeding from the Iud. or at least i think i was the IUD. But i still to my knowledge have not got my period yet. Does it takes a while for ur period to adjust?

I know for the Mirena IUD its possible to not get period. But i thought the copper was supposed to make them longer. i am wondering if it actually is at all possible to not have a period with the copper.
