    Default Floorwork.

    Question.

I've been watching the girls when they go up on stage to try and learn how to do floorwork, pole tricks, etc.. and I've noticed that a lot of the moves they do for floorwork... aren't really sexy.

For example... wtf is that thing where they lay on their backs, put their legs in a V, close them, bend one knee and swing it around sort of, open their legs again, CLACK their shoes really loud, repeat, etc. It doesn't look sexy to me.. I really don't understand why they do it. Maybe it was just a couple girls who do it weird, but it seems to be a really popular move.. I don't understand why.

They also do this move that looks like a pilates ab exercise.. like a bicycle.

    I don't get it.

I think the legs thing is still sexy to some customers. Seems to still generate tips so...

But it's a VERY old school thing. I remember seeing non-stripper dancers do similar leg poses whilst laying back like that on old black & white movies. The whole cheesecake pose thing.

I also think that it's such a normal thing in strip clubs now, that it's almost missed when it isn't done. I dunno. Not positive but...

Yeah...I do it from time to time. I dont think it's really sexy...but then again, I dont think any of my moves that generate the most tips are sexy. When I do moves I think look sexy...nobody pays attention. When I do the leg thing or flex my tits...I get tipped like crazy.

Men...who knows why they like this silly stuff? But as long as they keep tipping for it. I'll do it.

I think the clacking of the shoes is mainly to get attention.

The principle behind the on back stuff, as i see it, is a cross between pinup style and peekaboo. Not to mention that it makes your breasts look different than standing dancing, or upside down on the pole.

I'm not sure the other one you're talking about, with teh bicycle legs, I've seen girls go on their backs, arch, and move the legs around sort of bicycle like, and i always thought it was supposed to be almost simulated sex, or at least the custy is imagining that is.

maybe i'm overthinking it, but thats my take on what I've seen from other girls... I just do it because the open legs shows off my flexible hips, and is a little more coy than laying in front of them, and putting a leg on either side of their shoulder. Thats just not somethign that is to me comfortable or sexy. Also, the pinup look works well with me both because of my wardrobe, which has a lot of girly touches, and my curves-it hides your flaws.

The most HIDEUS floor move I ever saw... the coochie smack.

You know how girls smack their asses onstage?(whihc i don't care for, but HAVE been known to do) Well at some of the smaller clubs I worked at, teh girl would go on her back, flaunting her coochie near a custys face, reach down all sexy, touch down there for a second, and then SMACK it! WTF?!?!?!??! And its not just ONE girl or one club... it was SEVERAL! My mind boggles at that move!

I think I still do the leg swing thing, lol. I r oldskool.

Also, I have never understood the severe shoe clacking thing. If someone does that, I just assume they don't really know what they are doing, a.k.a., falling down the pole and not having a graceful landing planned out.

I do the leg move. I personally think it's sexy, especially on dancers with really long legs. I don't always clack my heels together though, depends on the music, and whether people are paying attention

If it's done in a pointy toed, slow sort of way, it can be hot. At least, when I do it! LOL It's a leg-man favorite. We had one girl who was sort of a blonde, plump in a pinup way type, who moved her legs like some sort of spider and she made a ton of money off the leg guys.

It's also something that says 'stripper!' as opposed to regular club dancing. Like the pulling up one leg towards your shoulder thing-I think Sheila Kelly calls it the Leg Peel. It's not really sexy, and it looks like exercise, but exercise is sort of hot. To men.

I do the leg thing too. The older strippers that made money did it, so I picked it up from them when I was learning. Hey, I go with what works...

I am an ole school feature and still insist on doing a "floor show" on my 3rd song...and then collect tips on the 4th.....I don't do the whole shoe clapping thing....but try to be as graceful and sexy as possible.

Yea I should have been more clear... I don't do the shoe clap(that confuses me.. mind you one girl, Justi-Nuff, does it and its kinda fun ahaha...

I do the whole leg thing and I insist on a slow floor song on my 4th song(in eastern Canada) or 3erd song in Western Canada followed by the 'game'.

Okay im confusing myself now so im done... btw hey Jessica

Our club doesn't have a pole on the mainstage so everything is pretty much freestyle, floorwork, leaning against the wall, and using the pilars for balance (we have huge pilars on each side of the stage). I'm tall and all legs, so I do all the leg moves. The guys seem to like it.

I'll bang the front tip of my shoes on the stage as I'm getting up from a floor move that I was doing on my belly. I'll clap my shoes, too. Other than that...yeah, my club has some girls that constantly smack their shoes against the stage during an entire set. Really annoying!

i used to work in a small club that had dancers that would slam their shoes against the stage and walls. it wasn't sexy at all because it scared the customers half to death since it was so loud.

where does the clock-swing leg thing come from exactly? (it doesn't work so good when the girl is short, or short-legged :-( )

ages ago someone was asking about the history of what are often considered 'boring' strippermoves, but yet which consistently result in tips.

if there are movies that reference forerunner movements, that would be awesome to know.

Boy, you've got me on the origin of it, but I can remember debating the sexiness of it at least ten years ago. I do it at times.

Gypsy, you're a new dancer, but in (a short) time you will no longer be surprised when you see dancers do things that do not seem sexy or sensual to you and yet earn money from it.

The shoe banging thing, though, I don't think I'll ever be down with that. Or the pussy slapping. I cringe when I see that.

I do the clock leg move, and I got it from the girls I worked with in Chicago. No one at my club now does it except me. I think they're scared to do it cause it would be obvious that they stole it from me. In fact, no one at my club even touches the stage. I am the only girl that does anything on the floor. I started at a club with no pole, so that was what I was used to.

I do the all of the above legwork - I was a modern dancer long before I started stripping, and my flexibility is an asset onstage. Plus, I love the old-school-ness of it - I'd be so sad if it disappeared entirely and we had only doggy-style booty shakes available in our floor work repertory. S Factor calls the clock-like leg swing the "Tick Tock" (like the pendulum of a clock), if you want it categorized.

Like anything else, it depends on execution. Done gracefully with pointed feet and hips that are flexible, it can be beautiful. I also do sometimes clack the shoes, both together and on the floor (doing a sideways split on my back) , but only as an accent here and there - and it MUST be at an appropriate beat in the music! Please!! I think it loses a LOT of effectiveness if you're either repeatedly or unrhythmically (or both) clacking them together with no real thought.

As for precedents? I'm not sure if the movement was EXACTLY a one-legged Tick Tock, but it was something very similar, in a movie that will forever be branded in my brain: Flashdance. When the main character's ice skater friend Jeannie is recruited into a sleazy strip club, and Alex storms in to drag her out of there, Jeannie is laying on stage doing exactly that. Saw it at age 10, never forgot it.

i do the leg thing as well. course, most of my floor work consists of pin-up style poses and movements. i attract better customers that way.

*edited to add* the "tick-tock" looks 100% better if you're carefull about the angles of your legs -and- you arch your back slightly. it's a bit difficult in that position, but it looks great.
