Default 13 / Thirteen is actually a lucky number

Women living in a natural environment tend to have their menses during a full moon. A twenty-eight day menstruation cycle is most typical, so a woman usually has 13 menses in a year.

13 Moon cycles in a lunar year

Maya had an entirely different relationship to the number 13, actually revering it at as the Key to Time itself. This is because of their relationship with the moon - 13 in every year.

Several successful athletes have worn the number 13. Dan Marino, an American football player known for passing more yards than any other quarterback in NFL history, wore the number 13. Another athlete Wilt Chamberlain wore the number 13 on his jersey throughout his NBA career. Also, FIBA rules require a player to wear the number in international competitions (only numbers from 4 to 15 could be worn, and as there are 12 players, one must wear 13); Chris Mullin, who wore #20 in college and #17 in the NBA, wore #13 for both (1984 and 1992) of his Olympic appearances. Shaquille O'Neal wore #13 in 1996, Tim Duncan wore #13 in 2004. And Mats Sundin wears 13 in NHL. Alex Rodriguez also wears 13 for the New York Yankees

In Judaism, 13 is considered a lucky number. One explanation for this is that the word ??? echad, Hebrew for 'one' and thus a way of describing the unique God, has the numerological value of 13 according to the Gematria system.

13 is also associated with transformation

number of colonies that originally constituted the United States of America, and thus thirteen stars have been used in American heraldry since the start of the union, appearing not only on our first national flag, but upon many of our early coins as well.

    In religion

    * The number of participants at the Last Supper
    * Counting both Judas and Matthias, there were thirteen apostles
    * Thirteen was once associated with the Epiphany by Christians, the child Jesus having received the Magi on his thirteenth day of life.
    * In Judaism, 13 signifies the age of maturity (bar mitzvah) for boys
    * The number of principles of Jewish faith according to Maimonides
    * According to the Torah, God has 13 Attributes of Mercy
    * In modern day Wicca, thirteen is considered the maximum size of a coven, and in some traditions is the ideal number of members, and there are also 13 goals of a witch[1].
    * In Sikhism, the number thirteen (13) is a number devoted to the remembrance of God, therefore it is also considered lucky by people who practice the Sikh faith.

The pyramid on the left has thirteen layers, not including the eye at the top. Above the head of the eagle on the right, there is a constellation of thirteen pentagonal stars, arranged in the shape of a Seal of Solomon. There are thirteen leaves on the olive branch in his right talon, and thirteen “Jonathan arrows”, as they’re called, in his right. There are thirteen horizontal divisions on the eagle’s shield, and thirteen vertical ones. The motto “E Pluribus Unum”, written on the banner in his beak, contains thirteen letters. So too does the motto “Annuit Coeptis”, written above the pyramid on the left. Furthermore, if you add the number of letters in “Novus Ordo Seclorum” and “MDCCLXXVI” (“1776” in Roman numerals) written below the pyramid, you get 26, or two sets of thirteen. On the front of the bill, at the base of the portrait of George Washington, on each side there are eight leaves and five berries, indicating another two sets of thirteen. There are also thirteen stars on the chevron on the seal of the Treasury Department that is featured to the right of Washington, overlaying the word “ONE.”

Clearly these allusions to the number thirteen are no accident. This truth is compounded by the letters in permanently featured words on the front of the dollar bill (that is, words not contingent upon any changing circumstance, such as the name of the US Treasurer). These words include: “FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE”; “THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”; THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE”; “WASHINGTON, D.C.”; “ONE”; “TREASURER OF THE UNITED STATES”; “SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY”; “ONE DOLLAR; and “WASHINGTON.” The total number of letters in these words is 169, or 13 squared.

Returning to the back of the bill, there would appear to be exactly thirteen examples of the use of the number 13 there. But in order for this to be correct, you have to count “IN GOD WE TRUST.” Of course, there are only twelve letters in this phrase, but occupying the same space in the center on the back of the bill is the word “ONE”, implying that we should add 1 to this sum and make 13. This leads us to the thirteenth example of the use of 13 on the back of the bill. There are twelve occurrences of the number “1” or the written word “one”, unless you count the Latin word “unum”, meaning “one”, used once, which makes 13 in all.

13 is also associated with rebellion and in regards to rebellion America founded on great ethics and principles was in rebellion to the monarchist Britain. Thomas Jefferson affirmed that individuals have a right to rebel against tyranny. His motto was "Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God. The bible associated the number 13 in regards to rebellion and deems it as a bad thing, and deems only unquestioning obedience and blind faith to be a good positive thing, and since I have a positive experience with spirituality I do not believe that to be representative of the true God THE ALL or anything good as a whole.

Sometimes I think something that has value and or can be really useful symbolically or whatever in some way we are made to be superstitious of it so we stay away from it, or it is deemed "evil" etc, so certain others stay away form it. If someone is trying to scare you or use fear tactics on you then ask WHY? what do they have to gain form it? What is their agenda?

Unfortunately peoples strong beliefs can make something a self fulfilling prophecy, because what you focus on can manifest through the law of attraction.. If you convinced enough people the number two was “unlucky” then people would manage to find the evidence LOL.

Amazing how when coincidences happen how numbers tend to get categorized as lucky and/or overly thought out.

    Like SqrRt(171 + 1 - 3) = 13

Its just one of those things people will do anything to believe that there is something out of their control so they aren't to blame for any mishaps I believe.

Also brings to mind the phrase "53% of all statistics are made up."

Soooo ridiculous. You could write an essay on the significance of EVERY SINGLE NUMBER with that kind of logic.

Some great sites to look and find stuff in regards to numbers is:

Certainly if you take things to a extreme and take things out of perspective anyone can get ridiculous about anything, or get carried away with it, but I don’t think it is ridiculous to take notice of things.

And yes in fact very intelligent people tracing way back have said things such that math is the universal language, and certainly YES you can write a essay on the significance of every single number. In nature there are certain patterns and numbers that can be noticed and with every number and with each number is special and unique and better then every other number in it’s own right and context, and some numbers can be noticed more in certain contexts then others.

Any really EVEN IF one were to manage to ignore the place numbers have in the world and in nature just by the fact of the matter of many people believing that numbers do have a significance either at a conscious or subconscious level.

Personally I do not believe any number has any power in and of themselves, but when you pull a number to the forefront of your thought and focus on it then it can have a psychological effect. Numbers has both real and imagined associations that don’t have any real basis such as how scary movies associate negatively with certain symbols or numbers., so having superstitions of numbers is quite ridiculous because their is no such thing as bad or unlucky numbers.

    There are

    Science Mysteries

The Fibonacci numbers are Nature's numbering system. They appear everywhere in Nature, from the leaf arrangement in plants, to the pattern of the florets of a flower, the bracts of a pinecone, or the scales of a pineapple. The Fibonacci numbers are therefore applicable to the growth of every living thing, including a single cell, a grain of wheat, a hive of bees, and even all of mankind.

Yeah certainly many people obviously take the number thing to far in such a way as to blame their circumstances for something as ridiculous as being on the 13th floor or something silly like that, and yeah it is interesting to see what lengths people go to blame things on things outside their control to escape reasonability. Certainly a number on a piece of paper has no power in and of itself, but symbols can be used psychotically to have a mental effects and can be representatives symbolically in a positive way or in a negative way or people think of it in a negative way then they will be in a negative state and when people are in a negative state bad things will happen to them naturally. Just as if a girl is in a bad state while she dances fro customers she won’t make good money.

Yeah statistics are very highly biased most of the time because the people paying to have them done often have a agenda and or can use special kinds of questioning techniques to manipulate people to answer in a certain way or just plain lie and all kinds of stuff.

However as far as the dollar bill goes it certainly dose seem to me the number 13 shows up enough to take notice of it.
