EEEEEE! I'm a dancer now! After months of psyching myself up, lurking here, vacillating and panicking, I did it! And I love it!
I was so nervous I actually put in my calender "10-1 panic uncontrollably, 3 audition" but I did it! Once I got onstage my natural tendency towards exhibitionism took over, and life was good.
The girls have been really sweet, the staff is lovely, and the custies have been (mostly) gentlemen. Moreover, it occured to me that even with crappy nights all around, I could pay a semester's tuition in 10 days, at the max after setting aside taxes.
    I LOVE MY NEW JOB!
Retail is dead to me now...
Prepare yourselves for the onslaught of silly newbie questions.
    Hooray!!

Lessee, the club I'm at is *sort of* a gown club, they don't require it, but they "strongly encourage" it. I wore a pinstriped two piece ensemble that I had already for dom work (I'll post a pic later, suffice to say, it's cute but not THAT cute...) and white heels with some kinda boring jewelry.
A friend of mine is working there, and had called me and told me I needed to come audition, so I agreed, and set a date for a night she would be working, for moral support and somebody to know.
I was deathly nervous, I kept replaying all the horror stories I'd ever heard about evil girls and malicious staff in my head, not to mention I had lost one of my last pair of contacts down the drain that morning AND popped a lens out of my glasses, so I was blind as a bat. (I'm nearsighted like you wouldn't believe- anything over about 4 feet away is fuzzy around the edges.) I couldn't find T (the aforementioned friend), so I just went with it.
After I talked to the manager and got the audition organized, I went into the dressing room, trying to remember to breathe. I was fumbling with my shoes (I remembered not to put them on the counter!) and one of the girls came over and asked me if it was my first time dancing. I think I just nodded and got paler. She was really nice, and it helped me calm down a lot.
I went out and did my first set, which was when T turned up, and sat at the stage. A lot of the other girls did too, and tipped me, it was really sweet. So much for the "strippers are really mean and catty" stereotype, although I already knew it wasn't true from reading SW, I was still scared.
Anyway, so I got hired, and stayed the rest of the night.
    SO MUCH FUN.
I have never felt more beautiful in my life. We had a big convention in town, all Microsoft people, and I'm a bit of a geek myself, so we got along great. I was trying to remember Hustle Hut all night, and I think I did pretty good, I walked out with almost $400 after tip out (and I made sure I tipped everybody well). Not too bad for a first night! That's more than I made in 2 weeks working retail...
The customers were all gentlemen, or at least followed the rules and weren't asses. My feet hurt like crazy, my quads were killing me and my lower back was threatening to cecede when I was done, but I had a grin on my face and a pile of cash in my hand.
Thus ends the saga of the first night of the rest of my life.
After three days, my legs hurt less, my back doesn't hurt for as long, I've gotten 2 new dresses (WAY better than the outfit I started with) from the other girls, and I'm starting to get the patter down, being a better saleswoman. And I got to spank a smoking hot fellow dancer while we were waiting to cash out. Best. Job. Evar.
