    Default kitten question

ahhhh i love the little babies but mine is driving me NUTS. now that i'm in my apartment, i only have one, and she wont let me sleep. its 6am and i'm awake because she will not stop walking on my face and pawing at me and stuff. i tried ignoring her and she won't stop! i've put her down on the bed and tried petting her, and put her down on the floor and she jumps right back up. i think she thinks its a game how can i get her to calm down?

oh, and jasper.. he used to sleep on my pillow with me at night, and he still will if olivia is completely not in the room. at my parents house, sometimess she would sleep with my brother, so jasper could have a little peace. he's still a kitten himself, but she's 2 1/2 months and he's 9-10. and hes very skittish anyway. hes warming up to her, he licks her and stuff but sometimes he just wants like alone time with me. if she leaves the room he'll almost immediately come to me for attention. how can i get him to feel better when she's there?

I have a puppy and he used to do the same thing at bedtime. I began stuffing him under the covers next to me and not letting him out. He didn't panic, instead he just curled up and went to sleep because it was a warm dark place. Maybe that might work?

You get her to stop by waiting for her to stop being a kitten

I have a kitten, too, she's about 6 months old now. She still doesn't sleep with me in my room because she is just way too playful and would keep me up all night attacking my feet, playing with the pillows, covers...you know...what kittens do. I'm hoping when I get her neutered she will be more calm and laidback and I'll be able to let her sleep with me. But for now...NO KITTENS IN THE BEDROOM FOR ME! I value my sleepy time way too much.

i was going to shut her out of the room, but then if jasper wants to come in, he can't go out to get to his litterbox and food

Put a litterbox and food in your bedroom for now. Have him in the bedroom and her out.

^ you'd think i would have though of that. haha but when i posted this i was exhausted and annoyed at being woken up AGAIN!

as for jasper.. i can engage him in playing with his toys, but as soon as oivia joins in he loses interest. he refuses to play if she's playing too. but he's nice to her, not mean at all. hes just so moody as to when he wants to be around her. theres probably nothing i can do about that, but if anybody knows anything.. i know there are so many cat people that one might be able to help!

We have a crate that we put our kitten in at night and for feeding. She really doesn't mind it. We can just throw her in there if she's waking us up, trying to eat feet, etc.

We also have a 16-year-old cat who isn't too thrilled with the new arrival. Yours might not never make it to being friends, but Jasper will probably warm up over time. Our old man eventually ended up tolerating our other kitten over the course of a year or so.

I like the idea of the "forced cuddle" and then kick out if they don't comply. The kitten will either learn to cuddle while you sleep (cause he'll get bored playing with himself) or not. My cat is 3 and I wake up most mornings with him snuggled up against my butt, but sometimes he's an ass & I have to lock him out. Cats are just weird.

You have to train kittens. When she bothers you in bed, bop her nose and hiss while glaring into her eyes. Don't blink or break eye contact until she looks away first. Keep doing that whenever she disturbs you in your sleep. Make sure you love on her and play with her when you get up, and give her attention throughout the day, but establish that you don't like being bothered in bed. She will get the idea.

Kittens understand cat language very well. You have to be her mother, and when kittens disturb their mothers they get a swipe or wap on the nose and a firm hiss. That's how they learn not to scratch, play too hard, bite, or bother Mom while she's sleeping.
