Thumbs down Smoke in My Eyes

I'm not used to being around smoke indoors; that's one of the things I like about living in California. However, I'm halfway through a two-week working vacation in Montana, and after a week of being indoors with so many cigarettes, I'm not feeling so well. My throat is phlegmy and raspy, and my eyes are REALLY sore. They burn and itch and they look all red. I'm taking a couple days without my contact lenses and hopefully that helps, but what else can I do to heal my eyes? What do you guys use?

And when is the rest of the country going to get with the program and make the smokers go outside??

Hey don't be so mean to those of us who like to slowly kill ourselves! No one made you work there it's a choice..(land of the free, people should be given choices, even if they're clearly stupid)

N E Hoo...Make sure you're drinking lots of water, try some Visine to flush the eyes..you shouldn't have to forego the contacts..I use the Visine for contacts..gentle enough to use over top, yet should get the job done. Feel better!

Oh yeah, you should definitely have the freedom to smoke if you want. But I don't think it's too much to ask that you restrict your smoking to the ventilated outdoors and your own property so that you aren't forcing everyone else to smoke right along with you.

I'm definitely drinking tons of water for my throat. I didn't know they made Visine that was safe to use with contacts! I'll get some Visine today. Thank you.

Visine wont soothe your eyes at all. Visine is made to take the redness out by constricting blood vessels, which is not healthy for the eyes.

I would recommend a high-quality tears eyedrop such as Bion Tears.. they're expensive but theyre among the best. If you cant find those, look for any kind of "tears" not a redness-reducer!!

The target brand that's similar to Visine Redness Relief is really good for contacts. I like it better than Visine.

I totally agree with you about the smoke, I work in CA but girls can smoke in the dressing room and it's not ventilated properly.. my eyes are so irritated at work bc of contacts and smoke!

^^^ You might consider calling it in to the authorities. They're breaking the law by allowing smoking in the dressing room, and there's no reason they should be allowed to do that.

I've gone two days without my contacts, dousing my eyes in Visine regularly, and I feel better. (I didn't see that warning about it until after I bought it, so I'm using it anyway.) I'm going to use it before I go to bed after every work shift now, too. Hopefully that will help!
