    Default General Cell-Phone question

I was just reading an article about the 5 HS grads who were in an accident, and apparently the driver's cell phone was (phone and texting) in use less than 60 seconds from the first 911 call.....the whole thing to me is tragic....

...but, I keep asking myself this, and can't gt an answer so hopefully someone here can explain it to me......why buy a cell phone and text everyone when you have a, hello, cell-phone? I can see in certain circumstance texting, during work hours, etc etc, but, seriously, rather than talking to a person you would rather text them? can someone help me figure this out...

I text people because it's quicker than getting engaged in a conversation when I just have one question to ask.

    Especially my mother.

I don't know why I love to text. Yes time consuming, but also less disruptive. When you text somebody they can reply at their own convenience...

With texting, you can get straight to the point and get your message across without all the small talk, etc. that can be associated with verbal phone calls. In some cases, it can be cheaper (i.e., $0.10 per text vs. your per minute airtime charges). It's convenient when you are giving directions, addresses, phone numbers, etc. It's also a more discreet form of communication.

As a side note, don't text and drive, that's dangerous. I once had to make an urgent phone call to a buffoon that was txting me while I was driving....

I think people should txt instead of calling. I would rather get a "Hey What's Up?" txt to answer walking down the hall during work than a phone call. I can do a million things while txting. Talking on the phone? I may be able to do 3 things, but the caller will get pissed and notice.

I much prefer texting. I can stay in touch with people much easier that way - I know tons of people I really dont have time to talk to everyone, especially with my hours being different to everyone else. I can text whilst doing other stuff and without it being disruptive to my surroundings.
I love the stupid random stuff you can send and recieve with text too, stuff you cant really ring up about and yell down the phone but you can text it and everyone gets the joke (-:
And I love being able to send one message to multiple people - very handy!!!

I think the attraction to texting (based on watching my step-daughter) is that it essentially sets up a method of continuous interaction. If you have a phone discussion, it's going to be maybe an hour or so. A text discussion, however, goes on sometimes for days, albeit intermittently. Personally, it drives me nuts. I make her turn off her cell if we're at dinner or the movies. Texting doesn't make the interruption permissable.
