No one knows me here so I don't really care if I like crazy

When I went to college I lived in a house were I experienced I few things. The most common things were hearing foot steps in the hall when no one was there, cold areas, and slamming doors. One time I woke up in the middle of the night I went into the kitchen to get some water and I saw an elderly woman at the stove when she started to turn around I decided I did not need the water and ran back to bed.

^^^I did search and could not find anything but now it is at the bottom of similar threads(my luck!). I grew up in a house were there were footsteps around the house (we had wood floors), papers would be knocked onto the floor with no draft etc... The one experince that I remember is when I was in the 3rd grade. My mom was working a second job at night and I was home by myself. I was watching tv when I heard footsteps on the stairs behind me(there was a door that closed the stairs in). My dog was laying down and lifted his head when he heard them. Then the door opened by itself. I freaked out crying, grabed the phone and went outside. I called my grandpa and would not go back into the house until he came over.

I never felt like it was a bad presence. I was just scared!

A few days after I'd gotten an unlisted number, I woke up one night to a phone call from the operator (my message machine took it) saying that a good friend of mine needed urgently to get ahold of me. I realized, as I got up, that I hadn't given this friend my new number: just then, the phone rang again. I answered it this time, and it was this same friend, reporting to me that a guy who was like a second father to me, a mentor, an old friend and marine, had died that night of a heart attack. Our phone call lasted about ten minutes, after which I made calls to friends, and went to pick up my girlfriend to be with my old mentor's family.

A few nights later, I saw the friend who had made the phone call. But he swore up and down that he had not spoken with me: the operator wouldn't let him through, and all he could do was ask her to give me the message and his number. His wife confirmed that this was all they had been able to do.

But I DID speak with a voice: I was told all of the specifics of what had happened by that voice, and I reported the passing of my friend to others. I didn't dream it. I understand now that it was my mentor calling, that somehow, old marine that he was, he was going to make sure I knew what had happened even if people couldn't reach me. It was a chilling thing at the time (every time the phone rang at night for months after that I'd catch my breath), but I see it now as a great expression of love. The mythologist Joseph Campbell says, We as we know ourselves are not the final term of our existence. I try never to forget this--that life, and afterlife, are far more magnificent than we know.

Athiest here... So, no. I know that people like to believe that there's something special about them and that it continues on afterwards... But, I believe that way of thinking is simply a matter of survival. People believe what they want to.

I have had lots and lots of experiences, from the tine I was a little kid. My brother was 18 when he dies, which was 2 years bbefore I was born. The ouse I grew up in was full of his presence. I had an area in the basement where I worked on my model horses, and that basement was also his area for working on civil war soldiers and stuff . . . . he was always flickering the lights and messing with the setero and banging the pipes when I was down there.

Before my Dad passed, I heard footsteps in the hall every night for months.

My old house was full of spirits. The five years I lived there were the most difficult of my life--constant fighting with my husband. I saw two actual figures, a man and a woman. The woman was very interested in my son when he was a baby. Once I saw her bending over his basinette. I heard a baby crying. My son's musical toys played spontaneously in the night. Once a weird black shape flew down the hall past me and out an open window. Not a bird or a bat--it was huge. My son was jsut a baby then. He would reach out to people we cound not see and want to be picked up. My cats acted all weird, crying and growling at things nobody could see. Doors opened and closed. We fought constantly, it it seems like they thrived on it. Always after a huge fight or after we had really hot sex, there would be increased activity.

That house was built on land that was once a farm. The original farm house was next door to ours, and it had even more problems. The house behind that one and the house next door to ours on the other side all seemed to be affected. In the 10 years my husband lived in that house, those 4 houses saw 3 divorces, the demise of one good friendship between 3 room mates, the financial ruin of one couple, actual psychological illness, spouse abuse, and dozens of knock-down, drag-out fights that frequently spilled out into the yards.

After my fiance died, he would find ways to come to me. He hid money for me in the pocket of one of his old jackets when I was really broke. He found ways to communicate with me. The last time, was right before my wedding, when he came and laid down on my bed with me and told me good bye.

I worked in 3 clubs that were haunted. One by a dancer who had died in an accident on the way from work, one by someone who used to own the building before it was a club, and one by (I guess) a customer.

    Yeah, I believe.

Like colleen's first post wasn't enough to creep me out, I had to go and click the link and read the other thread. Goosebumps.

Do I believe in ghosts? I hven't experienced it yet (and I hope I never do) but I think I'd have to experience it first-hand before I believe.

Yes, I've had experiences, but I can't (in retrospect) be sure I wasn't hallucinating due to lack of sleep.

My tendency is to believe in them, though I don't believe that everyone who claims to have seen ghosts actually has seen them.

My club seems to be haunted.
When I first started there and I heard the other girls talking about the upstairs dressing room being haunted I just dismissed it as shit.
No one wanted to be up there alone and instead opted for the downstairs changeroom even tho it was overcrowded.

i always used to be up there alone. that is, until one night....

I went up alone to get something from my locker at about 3am.
I heard soft crying - like a soft sobbing noise. I walked around the corner to see if whoever it was was ok. But no one was there and the noise still persisted. I quickly left.

Ever since then I have felt very uneasy when up there alone.

I can feel presences. I have seen things more horrifying than ghost and had terrible experiences. The memories still haunt me to this day.

Yes. I'm sure I've posted about it before...my in laws (who have both passed on) come around to visit from time to time. Activity is highest around Halloween...it was his mothers favorite holiday and his father died on Halloween. She passed a few years before he did. The day he died..about an hour before in the hospital..the nurse checked on him. He said he was perfectly fine and he was going dancing with his wife that night. About an hour later...she came and picked him up. So romantic...
Every year around Oct 31st all the lightbulbs in the house blow one by one. even the ones that are supposed to last 15 years. One of the biggest arguments we had with his dad(who lived with us at the end) was the electric bill..he'd leave all the tvs and lights on all the time. The tv also goes on and off by itself. He's saying hi.
His mom used to take candy corn out of the bowl(nobody else ever ate that crap!), bite the white tips off and throw them back in the bowl. Every year...we check the bowl daily and find one or two a day with the white tips bitten off. She is sayng hi too.

We occassionaly smell cigar smoke in our den(which was his dads room) and out front where he used to sit and smoke.

Sometimes we get a faint smell of his moms perfume.

The cat (who is terrified of everyone but us, and we got about a year before his dad died) will stop on a dime and stare at the spot in the den where his dads sofa used to be. She reaches up and pats the wall with her paw and cries. She senses him there.

Occasionally I've seen a man shaped dark figure slowly moving through the house. Always out of the corner of my eye and only for a minute.

    So yes, I believe.
