    Default Awww, Mickey!!

I just had the most heartbreaking experience. I caught a mouse this morning and I felt good about finally getting him out of my home! I picked the glue trap up with a plastic bag and confidently walked toward the chute. Then he looked up at me with such a pitiful look!!!!!!!! Oh, man! I had to sit him down in the living room and re-gather my resolve. And then he'd squeak everytime I walked by as if to say "Help Me!" Oh man, I knew seeing Rattatouille was a bad idea!! Am I a wuss?

No. I always thought glue traps were horrid. The times where I had to get rid of my mice, I used snap traps. They go quickly, instead of starving or dehydrating to death.

Yes..glue traps are just cruel and should not be legal. What a horrible way to die. I've had mouse problems and it took a while to rid my home of them..but I cant use glue traps. Horrible.

Agreed. My grandfather had mice in his office once and tried the glue traps, but he felt awful when he caught a suffering mouse in it. He got a cat instead. Probably just as cruel, but at least he didn't have to deal with it, and he got to have a kitty. No more mice!

HA! I have 2 fat lazy cats and they couldnt care less. A mouse could run over their heads and they wouldnt even open their eyes!
The exterminator mentioned getting cats...then he saw mine lounging on the couch...he just laughed and said never mind...

Well, there are cats, and there are cats. My grandfather adopted a barn cat from someone's farm. She was about a year old when he got her and she was already a proven mouser. You're right that not all cats are good mousers! Barn cats are usually the best mousers because they have to be. Nearly every farm has a swarm of kittens in the barn and the farmers are usually pretty good about giving one or two of them away.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've never seen one look up at me like he was crying or pleading. My old cat used to chase and wound them for sport and give them to us as presents! I hate to say it but I prefer the cat being the bad guy.

    Yeah, he took the chute.

Snap traps are the way to go. Ties with string a piece of jerky to the trigger and coat the jerky with peanut butter. Mouse can't resist that treat. Whack! Neck broken.

On a side note, four people have died of hantavirus here in Colorado this year. A disease carried by rodents.

This is why I only use no kill traps. Snaps don't always kill, nor do they always kill quickly.

Glue traps are pure torture. No kill traps are effective and nothing gets hurt/dies. Just because another animal likes your home too doesn't mean it deserves to die (and suffer for hours before).

its hard to imagine that there would be no way to cut it open or something.

Its hard to understand why people would sentence an innocent animal to death. Yes some animals have diseases but not all of them do.
If people have "pest" problems there are other solutions than just killing them.
I forget the name of them, but there are things u can pug into outlets and it creates a wave that keeps out mice roaches and bugs.

I think its cruel that people just kills something just because they dont like it. Yes mice can be dirty but there are positive things that they do as well.

The best was to keep unwanted pests out is to check for holes near walls, windows, doors, floor and patch them up. Things cannot come in if there is no way in. The second is to keep things clean. The reasons they come in is because of food or uncleanliness. Or as simple as leaving doors open.

ok, mini rant over for now.

I also thought whne read glue trap that it would be no kill. I mean, don't the mouse just stick to the glue, and you can come right by, take it outside and set it free?
My boyfriend saw me reading this and set me straight.

When a mouse gets caught in the glue, nothing at all can safely remove the mouse from the glue. He said an attempt to remove the mouse woudl rip body parts off, it would be very painful. Mice have very tiny feet.

So all you do when a glue trap is leave the mouse to starve to death, or kill it somehow. Or dump it down the chute where it still has to starve to death.
What a horrible way to die. Poor lil guy didn;t know he was in the wrong place.

My cat once caught a mouse in our houe. Scared the crap out of me when I saw that little foot move in her mouth. I had thought it was a toy mouse. I woke my bf up, screamign and crying. He removed the mouse from kitty's mouth, and luckily the lil guy was unharmed, just scared shitless.
He was soo cute and tiny. I couldn't imagine killing or harming him. We set him free outside, and never encounctered another mouse again, luckily.

I woudl definatly go with humane no kill traps and set them free outside. If mice are a reoccuring problem, figure out where they are getting in, seal the holes.Once you getride of mom and dad, you can't have babies, and problem is gone.

No animal deserves to suffer, weather they are concidered a pest or not. They still all feel pain.

im still slightly confused. So,there is not way to cut some of the trap off or cut around the trap? wouldn't u be able to feed the mousey at least? coz even if some parts were still on the mouse wouldn't it just eventually wear away or come loose?

wouldnt stuff such as rubbing alcohol or dish soap make the glue devolve?
im sure there has to be some sort or way. but i am a persistent person

It is a very thick strong glue. And often, they dont get stuck just by their feet...but their face gets stuck on it as well from thrashing around trying to get loose. So anything that would help dissolve the glue would get into their eyes and mouth and kill them anyway.I have found a lizard stuck on a glue trap that I VERY slowly and carefuly applied nail polish remover with a q-tip while prying his feet off with tweezers. It took me over an hour, but he was eventuallly free. Whether he lived after that...trauma and all..I dont know, but I took him outside and let him go.

This sounds horribly cruel..but it is better then starvation or suffocation....if you find an animal like this and cant bring yourself to take off their head in a quick death, put them in the freezer. I know..sounds bad...but they will honestly just fall asleep as their organs shut down. And it is a relatively quick death...much faster and less horrible then starving or suffocating or bleeding to death....
So if saving them is NOT an option....

I would euthenize the mouse if I were you. Put the poor thing out of its misery. I would do so with the birds that the cats I've lived with had trapped and were torturing to death through kittyplay.

    Ditto...
Glue traps are horrid, especially the ones where they "go into a little black box and never come out" kind. So they are trapped in the dark chewing their legs off.
Just can't do it, they feel pain also.

AWWW! Now I feel bad. The problem with the glue is it's VERY thick! I got some on my leg and took a shower but couldn't get it off after scrubbing with warm soapy water. I finally pickd it off a few hours later. I was about to try to pull him out of it because only his back feet were stuck but he freaked out when I came close to him. He wound up twisted on his side with his fur stuck and it was impossible. I wanted to let him go but I live in the middle of a city so there isn't really anywhere to steer the mouse.
