    Default slug problem

i just finished fixing a bowl of cereal and this is the second night this week i've found a gross brown slug on my kitchen floor.

where are they coming from and how the hell did they get inside? we keep all the doors locked and the patio screen shut. how do i get rid of them aside from pouring salt on them (i actually just take them outside and let them go free)? what are some preventative measures to take to keep my house slug-free?

You have a moldy or dampness issue. Feel your baseboards and walls for anything that is cold and clammy. Are you in an apartment complex? Look around your water areas (sinks, tubs, etc) for anything that would have outside access.

In some apartments in very HOT areas, these things can be attracted to rooms with humidifiers or even just running along the sweating pipes.
People are not ruled by their memories.

I'm with pookie on this one. At least it won't run away!

(Seeing you're from San Francisco it is probably a politician looking for votes. Sometimes it is hard to differentiate between the two species.)

it couldn't be a politician because pouring salt on them doesn't kill them

Leave out pie plates of beer. They'll crawl in (no idea why but slugs can't pass up beer apparently) and drown.

If you can find broken seashells, smash them up into chunks and sprinkle them all around the outside of your house. The slugs won't crawl over the broken shells; it hurts them. They'll turn around and go somewhere else instead. I used this method to keep them out of my strawberry garden when I had one, and it worked beautifully.

Drowning them in beer like Sirona said works too, but then you've got these gross pie pans full of dead bloated slugs and flat beer to deal with. Broken seashells are nicer to look at.

lol, good ideas. i'll see how they work. i'm keen on the seashell idea, as it is indeed nicer to look at broken seashells than gross pie pans of dead, bloated slugs and flat beer.
