Default What inspired you to dance?

Just thought this might be an interesting, and maybe even motivational, discussion. I guess it's really a 2 part.

    1) How did you origionally come to start thinking that you might want to be a dancer, and

    2) was there something or someone that motivated you to go for it?

Mine's kind of cheesy, but for me it was the Mimi at the cat scratch club in RENT. That and the fact that, at the time, I was making less than minimum wage working underneath the table at a disgusting and very questionable pet shop that was run by an old asian man that was stoned all the time (I kind of miss him, though).

Kill two birds with 1 stone.

Knock off your debt, and lose your inhibitons in the process.

    Just a thought?

    1) How did you originally come to start thinking that you might want to be a dancer,

My friend took me to my first strip club a while ago...and I became absolutely fascinated with strippers. I became obsessed. I thought, I wonder if I could do that? I'm so shy, I'm such a homebody. I couldn't get this thought out of my head. I loved going to the clubs and giving the dancers money and talking to them, but I wanted to be the one getting the money.

#2) My husband is actually the one that inspired me to just do it. I called and set up an audition and got all dolled up and he took me to the club. He parked the car, and...I didn't get out. Changed my mind. I decided it was too scary. NOT GONNA DO IT!!! And my husband talked me through my fear. He told me, "you are such a beautiful woman. Men will want to pay to look at you, and there's nothing wrong with that...and you don't ever have to come back if you don't want to."

He knew how much I wanted to try it. I got the job and he was extremely proud of me--mostly for conquering my fear.

My bf said every once in a while how I would be a "successful stripper". So I started thinking about it. Hot body? Check. Likes to dance and move? Check. Outgoing? Check. Experience in sales? Check.

Then I researched how much strippers make (I had absolutely no clue), and THAT sealed the deal.

Sexual harassment at my regular job before stripping. I figured I may as well turn the tables and make them pay for it.

I was working at a hardware store being hit on by scary old men and schlepping concrete for $7.50 an hour. I figured if I was going to have to put up with male chauvinism all day and go home with aching muscles, I ought to be making a lot more than that... Plus now I can threaten the rude ones with platforms instead of just plotting an untimely demise involving ball bearings down an aisle and a strategically placed gardening implement....

Me during senior year of high school: "So father, have you and mother been saving up for my college?"
    My father: uproarious laughter

Well, that and all the other shitty jobs that I worked at before I figured out stripping.

i went back to school. i needed a job with a flexible scedule where i could make enough money to support myself through school. i go to school full time with lots of labs (loonnnggg classes) so i don't have much time for a regular 60 hour work week like i had before.

I'm not stripping yet but I'm strongly considering it.

There so many reasons why! Some are...

The motivation for me is making money to pay for college and independence. I see stripping as a way to make money, and so be independent of my parents.

I want to move out of my parents home - they are great people but I don't see eye 2 eye with them on alot of issues. They basically want to be saints and I really can't have a life as long as I live with them.

Besides, I've always been fascinated with strippers and sexiness since I was younger. I wanted to be sexy since I was 8...LOL
Showgirls and Icecube's Player's Club have always been favorite movies of mine, even before I considered stripping.

I don't know what it is thats so interesting about strippers and stuff. I can't wait to go to a club, which I'm gonna do soon.

    Its practical too.
What job can an 18 yr old get where she can potentially make $1000s in a month?
What job has flexible hours that allow you to study in the daytime?

Flirt catalog. I had a shoe fetish and the models were hot. I wanted to be just like them but I wanted to dance.

Haha RENT actually brought up a conversation between me and a couple friends. We were saying how back in high school or whatever we would have never considered bartending or stripping but now that we were on our own it didn't seem so bad. Really, both go perfectly with school since it's flexible and makes a lot of money.

That and I am shy and I really just want to see if I can do it. I want to see if I can develop the whole other persona that I would need to in order to strip. I went to my first strip club back in March (I was supposed to be 21, woops, boyfriend knew the bouncers) and I admired their skill and confidence.

The final straw is that I'm now cut off financially from my parents which really is how I want it to be. It looks like I'll be getting a great job as a stablehand in January but it's a long commute and doesn't really pay enough. So, stripping!

I'm looking for a "real job" to tide me over until January but I'm likely to start stripping as well since I don't see any crappy min wage jobs as being able to pay for the things I want and need, along with debt and all that.

    1) How did you origionally come to start thinking that you might want to be a dancer, and

I was 10 and I watched the movie Striptease with Demi Moore...I remember making a list of possible occupations and listing "stripper" as one of my career choices...lol

Also when I was about 8-9 my Mom and I drove past this strip club called the dollhouse (it was like this really cool hot pink building) Anyways I not knowing that it was a strip club told my Mother..."One day I'm going to work there." To which my Mother said "Oh no your not."

Haha a year ago I did a ameture contest there...tragic forshadowing...

    2) was there something or someone that motivated you to go for it?

What motivated me to go for it was I was 18 and living on my own with roommates, then my one roommate kicks the other roommate out and then she spaces out on me and leaves me with all the bills and house payments (we were renting) So I had to make some serious cash in a short amount of time so I decided that I'd dance because I heard about girls making like upwards of $700 in one night...

OH wait, "Flashdance." That was the first inspiration. In college it was the Flirt catalog. After college and leaving a confining religion, I wanted to dance naked for money.

After my separation from my ex husband, I kinda changed and he just left me without a job and everything. I was cleaning my friends house to make some money for myself and was looking up jobs on her computer and I saw advertised a place that was an strip club/exotic carwash and I needed the money bad, I didn't think I could do it and I talked to my friend and she was like you have the body, go for it, so I did and I got into it and now after 2 years I am out of it.

Mine was the fact that I had moved out of my house. My parents told me that if I had the balls to move out, then I would have to support myself, school and all.
At the time I had a boyfriend who was, lets say, less than motivated. I worked a regular job (making $8 an hour at an eye doctor's office) during the day and then danced a couple of times a month. Then I left the regular job and stripped full time. I was in school full time too.
I paid off my debt, which was the typical debt that a lot of 18 year olds get into when they first get a credit card.
Now I have a regular job and dance too, but I havent danced in over 2 months. I plan on picking up more shifts. The money was obviously the main factor and still is.

The thought had never crossed my mind to be a stripper. I was at a night club waiting for my friends to show up and one of the nightclub bouncers told me I should go next door to their strip club and audition. I was bored so said, why not? That was the first time I had ever stepped foot in a strip club.

What motivated me to keep going?

I made $17 on stage in 3 minutes, and had fun doing it.

I had worked in a club before, and had been to a couple when I was a teenager. I also loved stripper and dancer movies. But really, it was for money. I didn't think it was that big a deal, or anything "inspirational." I knew I had no qualms about getting naked or flirting with strangers.

Just the glamourous/sexy image I had of being a stripper I guess was what made me start thinking of dancing..and the money of course!! I was a broke ass at the time I started dancing, I had an ok job but it just wasn't keeping up with my spending habits and school expenses...
This is kinda weird, but I wanted to get into it so I'd always feel sexy in my everyday life, like think to myself "I'm a stripper, every guy wants me". It wasn't really like that because as many of you know, we're not always so glammed-up in our day-to-day lives. I probably got a bit slobbier in the daytime as a result of dancing! Haha.
I probably would have just kept reading about stripping here on StripperWeb if it wasn't for this girl I knew through a friend who started dancing first and kinda encouraged me to get over my fear and go in and try! I was hooked... I had probably never held that much cash in my hands at one time. lol

I ended up in BFE Ohio with a boyfriend, and decided to respond to a waitress job at a place called Foxy Filly's. I immediately disliked waitressing and was offered $300 to do VIP with a regular there. It didn't work out for me then and a couple more times I tried over several years.
Then I decided that I just had to travel and I knew that stripping would be the "easy" way to do that. I drove hours away from home with just a little money. I figured I would force myself to do it long enough to form a real opinion because I either danced or didn't have a place to stay/food to eat. Happened to be Lido's that I drove to:p Been dancing ever since.
I'm sick of it and in school now. I think it's this shitty town that I'm sick of though. I still love the dance and the music, and occasionally the customers.

    1) I always said, "If I HAVE to, I will" use my looks to make some money. I was still a CA state employee when I started dancing. That will give you an idea of the pay rates for civil servants in CA ; P

    2) then the "Have To" day came. A wrecked car, a sick mom and a pissed-off boss at the state job. Nothing to lose! Seven years later, still here.

my motivation was revenge. my ex worked at scores and he dumped me and i knew it would piss him off. the night we broke up i went back (i waitressed and worked the front door there til we started dating) and gave it a shot. he wasn't pleased. the few months i worked there were interesting, to say the least.
