    Default redken (you bastards!)

so over the last couple years i keep seeing "redken" pop up whenever you girls talk about hair care. normally i just buy whatever looks good at the drug store/department store. well..... it turns out albertsons (grocery store around here) sells redken products. so, a few weeks ago i stood there staring at the redken extreme shampoo and conditioner. staring at the close to 30 dollar each price tag. i know they're big bottles and i know some salon hair products cost way more, but i'm a super skeptic when it comes to high priced beauty products.

anyway, in a fit of "fuck it" i decided to buy them. .......3 days later i went back for a styling product. a couple days after that i went back for another one. now i'm thinking about getting the "rescue me" treatment and some stuff for when i decide to let my hair go natural (curly) instead of straightening it.

you girls contributed to a new addiction! this shit aint cheap either! it's ok though, i <3 the stuff.

yay!! Glad you found something you like. Redken hates my hair for some reason. I try to get a deep conditioning every few weeks when I get my hair done professionally, whatever my guy uses is a DREAM to my hair. But when I buy it I swear it is never the same "salon experience."
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

    ^^^ word. It's awesome.

PP, when you want to wear your natural curls, check out the Fresh Curls line. It's specifically designed to give naturally curly hair bouncier, more defined curls while minimizing frizz.

And now, a public service announcement:

Please do not purchase your salon products from grocery or disount stores! Most of those places buy out old products from failing salons or even distribute conterfeit products. Chances are, you're not getting the freshest, highest quality, best performing products pro lines have to offer. With an average savings of under $1 per product, the convienience of purchasing pro products outside a salon or beauty supply store setting (like Ulta) isn't worth the risk IMO. Plus, purchasing pro products in a salon (especially brand exclusive salons that only use and sell one line like Redken, Aveda, TiGi, Kerastase) gives you the oppertunity to speak with someone who is knowledgable about the line and can help you choose products that are right for your needs.

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now.

If there's a Beauty Brands (a beauty store and salon) near you (they're usually in the midwest and south) they're having a sale with the huge containers of virtually all the salon brands shampoo and conditioner including Redken for $10. I got mine last week. I couldn't believe how cheap it was.

redken hates my hair too Although when I had great lengths it worked fine. Totally weird.

Bumble and bumble and davines products lure me in though, how redken seems to lure you guys in.

starts out as simple as shampoo for 25 bucks..ends up being 5 things and 200 dollars.

Ok... so i'm a cheaparse is there really that big of a difference in shampoos? I mean they all wash out anyways. Conditioner and styling products are another story. I am using garnier nutrese long and stong shampoo.

Redken has a new line of products out called 'Urban Experiment'. I got the entire set of products in a gift bag at some party I went to. They are amazing!

Shampoos still affect the pH of your hair... A lot of the less expensive brands aren't pH balanced for your hair... this is really important if you color your hair. Optimal pH for the hair is 4.5-5.5- you're already fighting an uphill battle because tap water's pH averages at about 7, which is more alkaline therefore water alone expands and raises the cutilce layer of the hair, causing faster color fading and moisture loss.

i used to feel the exact same way. the first time i bought "expensive" products it was the nexus(sp) stuff and i wasn't very impressed. i was jaded and never bought anything pricey again till this redken stuff, and i noticed a diff after the very first shampoo/condition. then i started noticing definate results after the first 4 or 5 shampoos/conditions.

Nexxus USED to be amazing. The Nexxus of five years ago is drastically different from the Nexxus today in quality.

every hairdresser I've talked too agrees that Nexxus is no longer "salon-quality" anymore, and really is no better than any drugstore quality shampoo.

    Redken blows Nexxus away.

Delevoping and finished products made by Redken are not tested on animals... However, like a the majority of mainstream beauty products, suppliers of raw materials are under no agreement to provide cruelty free products.

^^^All the stuff I've read says that Loreal does not test it's finished products on animals but they have requested animal testing from new ingredients suppliers... I can see how that can be infuriating to many animal rights activists since there is a difference between the "don't ask, don't tell" policy that many cosmetic companies have with thier suppliers vs. outright asking a supplier to perform animal tests.

Cameron...Lush won't even purchase from suppliers that test on animals for any reason, not just cosmetic. Just thought you'd like to know. Here's a link to their animal testing policy:

You would love Flying Fox! It's jasmine and honey scented shower gel. I've been meaning to tell you that. I haven't tried their hair stuff yet, but it's supposed to be pretty good.

OOOO, I'm a BIG Lushie!! Love the forum, love many products! CANNOT rec Dream Cream enough!
I'm being told on the forum they are coming out with a whole new haircare line. I am interested to see what they do. Personally, their haircare does not do so well for me (I need 'cones..) but I keep BIG around for a healthy scalp; and use it right before I get my hair colored. Husband uses it regularly because of his dry scalp..does wonders.

ANYway, glad to see OP come over to the dark side...once you go high-end haircare, you never, ever go back. <evil laugh>
