Default quit day job to dance?

I danced for a few months last year while I worked as a full time paralegal and actually made more money in one night than I did in a week at my day job but I was burnt out from working both jobs and decided to quit dancing. I enjoyed the flexibility of dancing and meeting different people. My job is sooo boring I do all the work and the attorneys make all the money plus I hate being chained to my desk for 8 hrs each day. I graduated from college a few years ago incurring a good amount of debt and would love to pay off my student loans in the next few years. Has anyone decided to quit their 9-5 jobs and dance full time?

I didn't have a nine-to-five but I don't do production work anymore. I was putting all my soul into other people's shitty movies, taking endless abuse for 16-hour days and not getting paid enough to live on, getting no appreciation and having nothing left for my own projects. Fuck that. I'd rather dance 20 hours a week and have the time to write, keep a pleasant home, exercise, cook, and live better.

I had a 9-5 job with Bank of America when I started dancing. I did both for about three years. Making more $$ in a week than I made in two weeks at the bank.

As is the way of corperate America, I was lucky enough to be laid off. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, go back to school, find another job, so I decided to dance full time until I figured it out.

    That was six years ago.

I'm getting myself back into dancing, I still have some weight to lose and I have to learn the new tricks out there. But for sure I want to quit my job and get into it!! I mean, my last paycheque, for 2 WEEKS of work, was $283.01 !!!! WTF??!?!?!?! Like, what the hell am I doing there? I worked for 41 hours and that's all I got? And my tips are only like, $20 a day. So, yeah the place is about to close down because no one goes in there, but, if I can get into dancing, I am so there!

    Susan,
I left the stripping world a little over a year ago. While I had a lot of fun and made a lot of money, I feel that the business has really gone downhill. It's really a struggle for new girls coming in and there is absolutely no honor among girls in the business. If you are still working it and making a decent living, hey go for it.

I will however caution everyone that when you hang up your heels, your body will be unforgiving with all the damage that has been done. I have been in recovery for six months with hip and knee problems that have seemed to set in from years of physical abuse that dancing facilitated. Treatments have included X-rays, MRI's, threats of hip surgery, and acupuncture twice a week for months!
Take care of your bodies girls, especially your hearts!

Is it an option to be a paralegal part time (and keep the perks of having a straight job) and dance? I don't know how many hours your company requires so you can stay on their health insurance plan, but that's something to consider. Maybe you could even use dancing to help you find a field you like. Good luck in whatever your choose!

^^That is such a good point about taking care of your body. I really wanted to do a post on that. I'm still young, but now that I am sitting all the time, my body hates it. I have to keep active or else my back really acts up. I would definitely recommend to anyone reading this to do lots of strength building exercises, especially for your back and be as gentle with your body as you can, even if it seems like nothing bothers you now. It's still worth it, but just take care of yourself.

Definately!! I'm a former gymnast and now that I'm "old" I'm starting to feel it. If I was told that in a few years my body would start to hurt from what has been done to me from the sport, I would have watched it and been careful.
