    Exclamation metabolism/stimulants

I've confused myself thinking about this.. so I'm going to try to make this concise.

I am aware that if you are not eating as much as you normally do, say from going from three meals a day to one, that your metabolism is going to slow down.
I am aware that most OTC diet pills contain stimulants like caffeine, ephedrine, etc.
So.. do stimulants increase your metabolism? Is a higher blood pressure/faster heart beat, etc evidence of an increase in metabolism? Or am I crazy?

Lately I've been working so much and just been so exhausted that I've only been able to force myself to eat once a day. This is not a diet or anything, I had stuffed crust pizza today. This is just out of sheer exhaution and laziness. But I know my crazy schedule will end eventually, I just want to balance things out since I'm stuffing my face with super calories, but only once a day.. Trust, I'll eat normally and healthy soon. Too tired now..

This is my entirely unscientific way of thinking of it.

Your metabolism (or your whole body) is like a fire. In chinese medecine they just call your stomach/intestine the fire, but really the fire is what keeps the whole thing going. Food is like wood. Caffiene and ephedra are like throwing gas on the fire - yeah, it'll burn really fast/great for a minute, but it's not in any way helping you make a healthy fire.

Could you just get a big thing of trail mix with you and grab a handful a few times a day?

I've tried. I've brought stuff to work, but I just have wasted money on it. I'm rarely hungry except during that magical time of day when I chow down. I can't wait to just get back to normal..

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the reason you feel so tired is because you are not fueling your body. Lena is right... even though you are not hungry you should eat a little protein and carbs about 6 times a day...just really small meals...Or maybe try a smothie or some kind of supplement drink...stay away from caffine or any other uppers they will drop in in just a short time and make you feel way worse...good luck!

if you could force yourself to eat one peice of baked chicken or fish or even just 2 egg whites through out the day is better then eating pizza once a day. i'm the same way i'm not hungry ever and use to eat 1 meal a day, but i gained a ton of weight. for some reason i started to eat small protein filled meals several time a day and lost the weight.

Ok, well I'm still wondering, do stimulants increase the metabolism -- as short a time as they may last -- or do they just increase your 'energy' to be active?

No, they increase your resting metabolism.

^^^^^^ she's right, they do increase your metabolism which means you need to eat smaller, nutricious meals throughout the day to upkeep your caloric intake. You need energy from good sources.
