    Default Yasmin, patch, ring

Okay so I did a search but nothing relevant really came up...

I've been through 3 different kinds of pills in the last year.. each w/ terrible side effects. My current one "Lo/Ovral" has me throwing up daily. (I take the pill at 6pm and by the next morning I'm throwing up or very very sick to my stomach) The other 2 caused serious weight gain and ridiculous mood swings. I seriously am at the end of my rope. Oh and did I mention I absolutely SUCK at taking them on time... SO my two or rather 3 options are this..

Give the pill one last shot.. I've heard good things about Yasmin...anyone else?

Try the patch..although I'm not sure about the tackiness level since it will be visible on me at work..though i don't think it would be a huge deal..as it is dark and I can't imagine a customer being like "well no I don't want a dance because you have the patch" what to do you guys think?

Try the ring..I've heard mixed reviews..anyone with personal experience?

I'm sooo frustrated w/ this whole BC thing.. however I know that'd I'd be alot more frustrated if i was pregnant so I'll keep on with my search.. Thanks for any help ladies!

I've had experience with all 3.

Yasmine - still made me nauseas, couldn't stay on it.

Ring - easy, but lost my sex drive. Friends of mine swear by it though, with no side effects

Patch - wore it prior to dancing, it was by far my fav birth control. I stopped using it when I started dancing. I worked with one girl who used it, and to be honest, I thought it looked tacky Sad, cuz I'd love to use this again. She kept it on her shoulder and had short hair though, so it was blatantly visible. Also, if you smoke, you shouldn't use the patch, as it's side effects are worse for strokes, etc.

The only pills I've been able to take are avianne and mircette. Avianne cause horrible breakthrough bleeding for me though, because the hormones weren't strong enough. Mircette seems to be fine, and it hasn't made me nauseas (my big gripe with bc pills).

Thanks for the info! Any side effects besides loosing sex drive? Is it hard to put it in?

hmm..yea I have long hair so maybe it wouldn't be visible.. I'm still hesitant though.

I just got off the phone w/ Planned Parenthood and they told me to research something called "Implanon"..its implanted in your arm or something and lasts for 3 years... anyone with any experience? actually has anyone even HEARD of this? I hadn't until just now.

It's not hard to put it, at first it seemed to make sex kinda painful, but that side effect went away.

I've heard of implanon, but I've never used it...I think maybe lilithmorrigan had it....

I have the IUD, and I love love love it. The first month was a little rough with the cramps and the spotting, but after that, it's by far my favorite bc.

A girl who used the patch a my club would jsut tell people it's to quit smoking. Kinda silly, but she felt better saying that than talking to strangers about her birth control I guess.

And isn't the implanon the same hormone and other crap as the pills? Wouldn't that have the same effect on your body? Seems like it would.

I used the patch for a while and that shit made me the most moody girl on the face of the planet. I would cry over anything, and I got mad really easily too. I gave it 3 months before my doctor decided it made me crazy and took me off of it.

I liked the ring, but I was using it when I wasn't having sex (SO was in Iraq).

I know 2 people personally that have gotten pregnant while properly using the patch. One carried her baby to term and only found out when she went into labour (I know that sounds ridiculous but it is true!) Because of this I am anti-patch.

I used to use the ring and at first I loved it. A few months later I stared having pain in my vagina and sex became unbearably painful. I went to the gyno and she gave me numbing cream! and told me it was from small crystals in my urine. I finally took the ring out and things went back to normal. This was just my experience but a another girl i know got yeast infections from it. It seems like all bcs have complications and I wish I could also find one that didn't. Has anyone tried Minera iud? My doctor told me to try it but I have read some horror stories online.

The ring's worked great for me. The first time I used it, I got a bit of a burning feeling after sex, but I took it out and rinsed it out right after and continued doing that after sex and no more burny feeling.

My skin's also cleared up and my periods are much lighter and less painful.

Since the dose of hormones is so much lower too, I haven't had any of the crappy side effects I had when I was on the pill.

My gyn told me about a few patients who got pregnant on the patch.

Thanks for all the input ladies! I've narrowed it down to giving the pill one last shot.. (maybe Yaz or Yasmin), the ring or Implanon

Nina-- so did you have to take the ring out every time after sex? Also, it goes around your cervix..correct? My man often bumps my cervix... would this cause it to move out of place ? would he feel it?

You don't have to take the ring out every time after sex, it's just something that I usually did, and I just rinsed it off in cool water.

If you do a search under "Nuvaring" there are a few other recent threads about it as well.

I can't tell you for sure if your man is going to feel it or not. You can take it out for up to three hours each day, so some women take it out during sex if it does feel uncomfortable, but it's never been a problem for me.

It doesn't go "around" your cervix. You just push it up into your vagina as far as it'll go (as with a tampon, you shouldn't feel it).

I have an IUD right now, have used one since after my kiddo was born. I guess these days you can get one without having had a baby before hand, and the first month was pretty rough. But I love it now. It's the best BC I have ever used.

I take Seasonale, which has the same does as Mircette and it's great. I was also on mircette and it worked wonderfully. I used to get mirgaines from other pills, then I found out I needed a super low dose one.

I would try yaz if i was you. I have been in pharmacy for 5 years and it seems to be the best b/c on the market right now. I would not suggest the patch, but i have many women who tell me they like the ring. If you are bad about remembering to take a pill, then i would go with an iud. I hope this helps.

I tried more than my fair share of b/c pills, including Yasmin. I always had major mood swings with them, and it made me excessively wary of anything containing hormones. I ended up with the Paragard IUD, but had issues with really really long periods and bad cramps. My Dr. finally told me to try the Mirena, it realeases a significantly smaller amount of hormones, and even less gets into your bloodstream. I finally switched and couldn't be happier. I haven't had any mood swings, no breakouts, no cramps, and no weight gain. The first week was a little rough, but Tylenol did the trick. Oh, and I have never had any kids. So... make of it what you will.

I've been on Yaz for only 5 days now, but so far, so good. I usually have reactions to BC pills, headaches, nausea stuff like that...on Yaz, so far so good.
