Default How Do I Avoid the Drink Hustle?

Is there a good way to let a girl know that I'm saving my money for dances and I don't want to buy her a drink? A lot of dancers, right after they sit down, will put me on the spot with a waitress by asking me to buy them a drink (or worse, they just order it without asking.) Is it alright to tell a dancer who orders without asking to pay for it herself?

Why don't you tip the waitress and say "You look great tonight, this is for your troubles (hand her a reasonable tip) , but I gave up drinking a while back"

No..it isnt ok to ask her to pay for it herself. But hen again..it isnt right for her to order without even asking. The waitress thing can be differant...they will come up right away in some clubs to get a drink order from the girl and in many clubs the girl isnt allowed to say no. But you are.

You can tell a girl as soon as she comes over that you would prefer to get dances then buy drinks. Of course..she may assume you mean get dances from HER. If you dont...tell her right away. "You're very pretty, but I'm waiting for someone tonight and I dont want you to waste your time" Be polite about it and respectful and if she is not a psycho dancer she will just move on.

Or...you could be a gentleman and bring enough for a cpl dances AND a drink for at least the girl you like enough to dance with.

Do you know for sure that it is a "drink hustle" ie: the dancers at this club have a quota of drinks they need to sell during their shift, or is it simply a case of a lady trying to get the ball rolling on the way to asking for a dance?

You certainly are not obligated to buy any one a drink that you don't want to in either case. Just tell the lady, very politely, that you are not looking for any company right now. If she just sat down and ordered a drink without asking you first she may flip you a little attitude but that just sorta goes with the territory.

Actually I have no idea how this works. What's normal? Some clubs seems to put a lot of pressure on me to buy the girls drinks and some don't. One of my favorite clubs has no pressure during the day but a great deal at night. I've had a girl say she won't even dance for me unless a do a couple shots with her first.

Just to be clear. Sometimes I want to buy a dance, but not a drink. It often makes the difference between whether I am able to buy two dances from her, or just one.

Yeah I really hate when they do that. Some girls KNOW they can order drinks all day from my tab, but newer girls that just sit down should certainly ask me before they order one. 95% of the time I'll say "ok", but 5% of the time I'll say "I'm about to leave", or "I'm waiting on someone else" with a nice grin.
Man oh man, what a trip it's been.

It's just rude. Even my regs...I'll ask if I can have another (except my sub guys...they do as I tell them!LOL!)...or if the waitress or bartender asks if I want another I look at him first and allow him to say "sure..get another if you want it" or "no, I'm ready to go" or "ready to dance"...

How do I know if you really want the drink? Is there a subtle way to do this? Many girls order the drink but then won't even sip out of it. I don't mind buying the drink as much if the dancer really wants it.

Sometimes I've had guys tell me that "Id rather get more dances with you than buy a drink." Sometimes its fast enough before the waitress comes around. I like Camrons advice to tell her right away if you're interested or not.

A regular asking me for a drink is one thing. A stranger asking me for a drink is something else.

Dancers asking guys for drinks or--dear god--ordering without even asking is one of my biggest pet peeves. Trashy, trashy, trashy.

Personally, if a dancer ordered herself a drink without asking me or me offering, she just bought herself a drink. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

Well..thats because a lot of clubs do not allow the girl to say no if a drink is offered. Whether she wants it or not. If she does, she'll get fined.

There is no way to really find out. Just let her get the drink(and dont bitch if she orders water or soda instead of alcohol) and tell her afterwards that if she doesnt WANT another to tell you now so you can tell the waitress no when she asks if you'd like to buy a second drink. So you may have "wasted" $10...if you cant afford that, you shouldnt be in a strip club.

like someone already said, at some clubs you can't say no. it wouldnt matter if i wanted it or not, i'd get in trouble for saying no at some places ive worked.

Yeah. I appreciate what you are saying. But I (and I think most other guys) come into a club with the money we plan on spending already in our wallets. I plan on spending ALL of that money. And every dollar that goes to drinks is a dollar literally taken away from the dancers. I was thinking of this question as a Pro-Dancer issue, as well as a Pro-Customer issue.

I understand that, and appreciate it. But sometimes a girl actually NEEDS a drink y'know? But if you tell the girls you arent interested in that you dont want to waste their time and dont want their company..then tell the girl you ARE interested in exactly what you just said...you'll be ok!
But if you have to "waste" money on a drink here and there..dont sweat it. She may really want it, she may get a commission off it...you nevber know. So it isnt always taken away from her.

Thumbs up Re: How Do I Avoid the Drink Hustle?

This is an interesting topic, and one that I get asked all the time as a dancer.

In the club that I worked in, we didn't have a drink quota, but if you got a certain amount of drinks for the night you had to pay-out less at the end of the night. So there is a lot of incentive for the girls to push their drinks. For me personally, I'd rather sell dances and get that $5 in the form of a tip either during the dance or on stage, rather than that money going to the club.

Also, as a dancer, I'm not allowed to turn down drinks in the presence of a waitress. I could be fired for it. In this situation, when the waitress asks if you would like to buy the lady a drink, you could go with something like "No thank you." And after the waitress leaves let the girl know "Sorry, but I'd prefer to see that money go towards the dancers in the form of a tip or a dance."

I've had many customers say this to me, and I don't find it offensive at all. In fact, I prefer it. But if the girl gets upset about it, as long as you were polite, she'll most likely move on.

    Hope this helped!

I never buy anyone a drink at the club including myself. I prefer to spend that money on the rail or on a dance and with even water costing $6 I see it as a waste of money.

Both clubs in my town limit the girls to one drink per hour, so there is no drink hustle, thank god!

If the waitress is the one pushing the drinks for the dancer, as is often the case, just tell her "We're getting ready to do some dances, so not right now." This is what the savvy customers did at the clubs I worked at like that. I can't fathom being rude enough to order a drink without the customer asking me -- this is how the sequence of events should unfold, ideally:
Waitress: "Can I get you anything else?"
    Dancer looks at customer expectantly.
Customer does one of three things.

    a) asks the dancer if she would like something to drink, indicating he wants to hang out. She pretty much has to order something regardless of whether or not she gets a cut in order to avoid pissing off the waitress/bar/management who wants the bar sales
    b) tells the waitress, "No thanks, I'm good," in which case the dancer should immediately ask for dances and if the customer is not buying, leave the table since he's not interested
    c) tells the waitress "We're about to have some dances, so not just yet."

It's pretty simple. If she orders herself with no prompting from you and you don't want to buy a drink or a dance for her, stop the waitress right then and tell the dancer you're not able to cover a drink for her. Hey, she was assuming.

I would say that if you are certain you want to buy dances to just head on over to the LD area as soon as the lady comes over. The dance money goes in her pocket, the drink money does not so I can't see her giving you much of an argument about it.
I have to be honest here, if you are sitting with a lady and plan to head over to the LD area at some point it is the gentlemanly thing to do to offer to buy her a drink. I understand that some have more to spend than others but, in most cases, I would rather buy the drink, enjoy the lady's company for a few minutes, and buy one less dance if that was a decision I had to make...but then again, I'm what they call "a talker" lol....

How to avoid a drink hustle? Stay out of clubs where they are persistent. I have a number of such places on my personal blacklist. Other than that, just say "no".

Drink hustles (and drink quotas as well) should just be outright banned. Most dancers I know would prefer to sell me a dance anyway because it has more profit potential. Wishful thinking I know.

In any regard, when the cost of a drink is the same price as I would buy one for myself, its not such an issue. When its $10+, its seriously cutting into funds that I'd rather use elsewhere.

It's an awkward and crappy situation. Since you aren't going to get out of it without coming across as rude to someone, accept that part of it and decide what the situation warrrants.

try clubs that don't serve alkeehawl...

    or go during daytime?

other than that, i believe it's kind of a given at most places. i specifically work at a no-drinking place so I won't have to deal with this myself. so yeah... i hear ya.

It really is that simple. The drink hustle is incredibly annoying and should be avoided at all costs.
