Default Asking customers to pay me for my time

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I've been dancing for about six months and I enjoy it but I still haven't figured everything out. I do well with couch dances but then I have customers who just want to sit and talk. I feel like these guys are preventing me from making money. One of the girls I work with told me to charge guys money to sit with them. I'm not quite sure how to do this. She said to just be blunt about it but I'm afraid they'll think I'm rude and stop coming to see me. I want to be paid for my time but how do I ask customer? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Irina

I don't really get paid for time much so I can't help you much there, but if I feel like I'm sitting with a guy too long, I bring up a dance, if he declines I say something liek "Well I really enjoy talking to you, but I really need to try and make some money tonight." That at least gives him the oppurtunity, to if he wants, offer you money, or gives you the oppurtunity to go make money without seeming too bitchy. I've only once had a guy give me an attitude, he said something like "its too bad your like that." to which I replied "honey, I'm at work, of course I'm like that, how else would I make money."

I'm having a really great time with you, I don't want to leave, but I have to make my goal for the night. That will give him the chance to ask what you need, or reveal that he doesn't intend on giving you money. Hope it helps!

yes thank you for that advice, I was wondering the same thing...

I read in another thread about selling blocks of time...what about saying something to this affect if, after offering a dance and being refused after talking for a short amount of time, such as, "hey listen, if you're not really interested in a dance, I'm really having a great time hanging out with you and would like to stay...I generally charge about (insert reasonable price here) per (insert time period here) for my time...we could definately do that instead."

::insert smiles and nods where appropriate::

So ladies what about something like that? Do you think that would work at all? Anyone ever tried anything similar that works well?

Feel free to modify it to make it sound more tactful.

I get paid for my time a lot. We don't have a VIP or champagne room, so I have to hook it up for myself. If they refuse a dance but show interest in me, I'll say something like "well i've got to get back to work then..." and wait a beat. If they just say bye or whatever, I'm off. If they're like "but..." then I say something like "well I can't be sitting around for free sweetie, and I'm afraid you can't afford an hour of my time." the right customers get all huffy I insulted their finances and ask how much. Then it's pretty much a done deal! I get the money up front of course, plus drinks!
Depending on how slow or busy the club is and how much the guy is willing to pay, I charge between $180-400 per hour.

I usually try to gauge how the customer is reacting to me and how interested he seems in talking to me. Then I ask for a dance and if he declines I sit for a couple of minutes being as friendly as possible. I f he says later I try to always come back.

I absolutely cannot stand customers who deliberately eat up your time. Not only can I not stand them, I dont UNDERstand them either. What is the point of misleading a dancer into hanging out with you by acting for as long as possible like you might get a dance, when you know that ultimately you're just going to piss her off, and look like a cheap jackass? Oiy vey.

If they aren't paying you then why do you care if they stop coming to see you? My favorite line is "I always have time, but I never have free time..." I even put it in my website for the internet version of "chat/no-sell" custies. I will chat for one song--maybe two if they guy is leaning, then pitch my sale. If a guy asks me to just hangout w him, I let him know my rates for half hour and hour of sitting time, also have an all-night sitting rate for guys who are entertaining clients, etc.

Also, some floor bosses will lead you to a guy who asked you to come sit with him. It's the same deal. Chat for a song, then ask his intentions and lay out your pricing. The floor boss will expect a tip for leading you to the guy and why shouldn't you get paid to sit there? It's not a charity event!!

Just make sure he feels like you two are really hitting it off, and you are starting to like him...but you do have to pay your own fees and just can't afford to sit around for free. It usually works for me.

This is more of a Hustle Hut post, so I'm moving it there -- there are also a lot of topics on this if you want to look for them.

don't say "charge." instead, say "investment".

try: "i've really enjoyed spending time with you, yet i really should get back to work. i appreciate an investment for my time."

that's one way. if they don't tip you for your time, say "it was great to meet you. see you later", then leave.
