I have a similarly intense goal - to make $6000 by September 1. It's going to take a lot of dedication but I intend to do it! That would let me knock out my two most nagging debts ($1200 to the IRS and $2400 I owe K). I will breathe a lot more easily when that's done.

If I manage, my reward is a new pair of Lucky Jeans. Luck to us both!

It's spooky I just saw this thread now...I made this vow to myself last night to make $10000 before school starts September 4th. I think it might take me a few double shifts and six day weeks, but I'm going to give it my all.

(My reward is the horse I'm saving to buy...and also, busying myself to distract from other things. Nothing eats time better than a hard, earnest work week).

Best of luck to all! Stick-to-it-iveness is key I think.

Best of luck Viola! Funny you should post this; $10k this month is the exact goal I decided on last night. (Though working 6 days a week for me.) Not all of it will be savings; actually most of it will go toward bills, taxes, rent, car, etc. but I will have *something* saved, and it will feel amazing to be caught up.

    You can do it!

The BIG problem here is that soooo many strippers work when they need something. WHHHHY? You're supposed to go to work regularly, just like mainstream workers do. Do your parents go to work 5 days a week? Do they have a house, and money in the bank? If the water heater breaks or Roto Rooter needs to be called, don't they have money in the bank to pay for it? if a strippers car breaks down then it is time to go to work to make the repair money. if they were as responsible as mom and dad, they would have the money on hand, right?

I don't mean to be arrogant, but you are supposed to go to work everyday, and put away part of your earnings. Why is it so hard to go to work 5 days a week? It's not that big of a chore. Mainstream people do it all the time. I understand if you are in school only working 3 days, but again students need to STICK to those 3 days every week.

It's no fun being unstable, and only working enough to get by is a shaky way to live.

You don't need a reward for working 20 days in a month. That is what you should be doing all along. Fun can be had on your 2 days off a week.

Every 8 weeks of so a 7-10 day vacation is in order for those ambitious hard working strippers who stick to a schedule and have some money to show for it.

If strippers work a full time schedule every week and work smart, they won't be in a position where all of a sudden they have to have x amount of dollars fast. They'll most likely have it.

$10,000 in one month - how many nights work is that based upon?

The best month I have had is $6500 but that was only working 2 nights. My shifts are long tho about 10 hours so the most I will work is 3 nights.

well, while a select and tiny percentage of all strippers can work randomly and nearly always count on 500-1k+ as a 'slow night', the other 90 percent cannot, and frankly, any encouragement to save the money from stripping and not live extravagantly is good encouragement.

i always wonder what'll happen to all the strippers who want to be schoolteachers and other low paying jobs but who adore coach purses and 200 dollar bikinis.

not to beat a dead horse, but i went to a book signing/reading for a stripper in her mid30s who is still poor and for whatever reason never put/puts anything aside when dancing and just cannot seem to build savings. that woman, aside from her book deal is closer to the norm for strippers than some glamgirl whose worst night dancing was 500 bucks because she only works 2-3 days per month on busy nights. and this chick is a pretty good hustler, a high earner when she works.

to me, tina's comments reference the mentality behind 'i need to make 10k in a month!' it comes from the same short-sighted place as all the posts that crop up about 'i gotta make 4k/10k/20k in nine days/3 weeks/2 months!!!!!' a lot of times, as soon as you fix that number in your head as 'NEED' to make, it becomes a lot harder to make.

all that said, i hope she gets her money. august has barely started, you never know.

Stripping gives girls the fredom to be able to set their own schedules. I don't see how it makes you lazt if you only work 3 days a week. We all have different desires and goals.

I always only work 3-4days a week, at the very most. Usually, it's closer to 2-3 days. And I only work for 4-6 hours at a shift.

Call me lazy...but I just have different desires. I don't care about stockpiling and saving money. I want to enjoy my life while I'm young, before i have a career, before I have a family.

I would rather make enough to just pay my bills, save a little and spend the rest enjoying life, taking trips, spending time with my boyfriend, going out and having fun. And having the time and freedom to be able to do thoes things.

That doesn't make me lazy, and it doesn't make me less of a stripper because I don't work my ass off or save every extra penny....it just means I have different desires, and there's nothgin wromng with that.

And I didn't see where VS HAD to make 10grand in a month...I just thought it was a goal she had set for herself. It's a nice goal, and exciting to try to do. I think it's awesme of hr for doing.
I love that stripping allows you to make that kind of goal.

it's worth noting that most of us wouldn't be strippers if we were into doing what we're 'supposed' to do .

I'll admit that I love this fact! Especially after I busted my ass working 5 days a week at a "mainstream job" for shit-an-hour pay!

you are supposed to go to work everyday, and put away part of your earnings. Why is it so hard to go to work 5 days a week? It's not that big of a chore. Mainstream people do it all the time.
Not wanting to stir up controversy, but there are a couple of major differences between a straight job's characteristics and dancing.

For those of us on the 'wrong side' of age 30, the physical demands of full time dancing boils down to 'rationing' your energies. Where it may be possible to provide all of the physical effort necessary for a straight job 5 days a week, week after week, this simply isn't realistic for many dancers. Putting out a 'full' effort dancing for two continuous 5 day weeks is very likely to result in pains and sprains that WILL interfere with the dancer's 'presentation' during the third week.

Also, when working at a straight job, the income potential is usually based strictly on hours worked. This means that working a tuesday or a friday makes no difference in potential income, and also means that working the first week or last week of the month makes no difference in potential income. This is clearly NOT the case for dancing.

I always combined these two facts in order to 'ration' my physical energies ... so that I wasn't wasting effort on nights that traditionally had rotten earnings potential, and could 'store up' my energies in order to be in top form on nights that traditionally had good earnings potential.

While this certainly will not apply in every 'market', I discovered that the following conclusions worked for me.

    - sunday and tuesday were always the worst nights of the week, so I would avoid wasting physical effort by working these nights

    - thursday and friday were always the best nights of the week, so I would always try to work these nights

    - the first week of the month and the third week of the month usually provided marginally better earnings potential. A possible reason is companies that issue bi-monthly paychecks, and also that most large bills are usually due in the middle of the month or the end of the month. Thus I would always work lots of nights during the first and third week of the month, I would work fewer nights during the second week of the month.

I would work even fewer nights during the last week of the month - and sometimes not at all. The reason for this decision was that the last week of the month is traditionally when rent payments are due, which not only empties the pockets of club customers but also overstuffs the clubs with dancers who are short on rent money themselves (and who finally decide to work extra nights to make the rent immediately before the rent payment is due). There was nothing more frustrating that coming into a club on the last friday of the month, discovering that nearly twice as many girls are working, and also discovering fewer customers - many of whom are pinching dollars to boot.

Picking the 'right' 15 nights of the month to dance can yield just as much earnings potential as working 20-22 nights while short of energy. Also, the additional 5-7 nights are usually spent working against stiff competition i.e. a club with too many dancers in the rotation, competition from 'desparate' dancers willing to do just about anything to cover their rent payment by next monday, and attempting to pry $1 tips out of broke customers' pockets like they were $20's.

Yes, skimping on sundays and tuesdays did occasionally cost me a lot of earnings potential. I would go into the club on a wednesday and find out that 1/3 of the tuesday night dancers hadn't showed up thus the dancers that did work banked big time. But more often than not I would hear how boring and poorly paying the previous tuesday night was. Like everything else, you gotta go with the statistical averages.

That makes a lot of sense. The point is to be PROACTIVE and plan it out. The area where I lost it was when I made a bunch of money working several nights in a row, and then took an entire week off, even if it could have been a good week. But both Melonie and Tina make good points. You must be professional about dancing, even if doesn't involve working it like a regular job in terms of consistent days.

I didn't misunderstand this thread. I fully understand it. Miabella summed up where I was coming from. Melonie makes sense as well, but of course her data is club specific. Katrine hits the nail on the head. Be proactive and plan your schedules out. Plan which clubs and which cities you will work in. 20 days a month isn't that much, especially when as a dancer you can plan your days and weeks off, is it? And many girls work less than 6 hours per shift, which is much easier than having to be in an office job for 9 hours, and have over an hour commute each way 5 days a week. And the reason most office jobs get to be a rut is that many peoples paychecks are spent before they get them. Employees in these jobs lose enthusiasm quickly.

Too many dancers are broke. I see so much of this that it sickens me. I also see what Susan Wayward says. Many dancers are young, and are not thinking about building financial stability through dancing. Many never had a full time job and have young friends going to school and making $7-$9 per hour part time. that is why dancers need some training and coaching.

My point is that building a work ethic is important. If a girl plans her schedules and sticks to them, it should be routine for her to go to work, have at least $1500-$3000 saved, a stable living environment, and reliable transportation.

I know dancers who are older who work 5-6 nights a week on a regular basis, and are physically fine. They own a home, some have businesses, have money in the bank and established excellent credit. I know some younger dancers who have their heads on straight too, but faaar too many dancers let the flexibility of this job make them lazy.

And eventually most of these girls regret having blown the opportunity to accumulate enough money dancing to avoid having to work a rat race job the rest of their lives.

As they say, it's not what you do but how you do it. In the end it's all about how much money you have to show for your time.

This is the most important thing. Stripping is just not comparable to an office job in terms of hours worked. For me, one night a week is entertaining, two empowering, three doable, four draining, five depressing, and six agonizing. Being consistent, positive, and focused for fewer shifts is what worked best for me. If you can strip 5-6 nights a week you should definitely take full advatage of it. It can be a huge opportunity that will pass by quickly, and like Tina pointed out it's frustrating to see so many dancers constantly broke. At the same time, it's completely understandable to not be able to handle that job every night, week after week. Most 9-5ers are not having to hustle and grind and get groped.

Good luck to you Viola! It sounds like you are on track and I wish you great success in attaining your goals.
