Maybe one of those liquid band-aid things? its clear so it should work, just a suggestion! : ) good luck
It doesnt matter whether ur black or white, cuz the only color that matters is green...
I know I'm not a dancer, so I'm not supposed to overdo it in here, but I *am* a med school student, so that might help a little.
Liquid bandaids are actually superglue, more or less, so that could mess up the ink. Neosporin also is not a good choice, because it can degrade the ink. You didn't mention where the tattoo was, but if it's somewhere that gets rubbed, perhaps tie a silk scarf over it to keep it from getting rubbed against anything rough. Heck, some people might be into getting a peek at what's underneath, too.
I also highly recommend "Tattoo Goo". It's sort of the texture of vaseline, so it will rub off, but it's very skin friendly, and doesn't cause any color loss.
If you need to cover it, but can't cover it with anything opaque, then saran wrap and vaseline/tattoo goo. Cut the saran to approximately the tat's size, and secure it with a little Transpore tape (First Aid tape, the clear kind that is perforated and easy to tear. Your drug store will have it). Just change it every four hours or so, and give it a little time to breathe if you can.
How big is it? And where is it located? When I got my back worked on I didn't cover it at all, just some ointment stuff. I just avoided rubbing it on the stage or on guys.
Do NOT use liquid Band-aid or anything like that. You'd be better off dancing with nothing on it than that.

Her tat is on her lower back. When I update mine I plan to take a few days off to let it scab over. Gross but at least the body can make its own band aid.
If you must go to work. If you can cover it with saran wrap then maybe a scarf or dont pull a tube dress all the way off then you can probably keep it protected. The one main concern would be germs inside the tat potentially screwing it up.

DO NOT COVER IT WITH SARAN WRAP. It traps heat and moisture which breeds bacteria.
Honestly, if you want it to heal quickly and without damage, don't go to work or wear any clothing that rubs against it or involves a lot of bending/moving, especially since it's in such a bendy area. It's a wound, it will scab, and then when you bend or stretch it will break open and flake off, especially if you're wearing things that rub against it. When I got my tattoo I was working at Starbucks, and even working there it caused some damage from all the bending down, reaching over, carrying things rubbing against it, etc, while wearing pants w/ a waistband that rubbed against it.
Take really good care of it....if you don't HAVE to go in to work tonight, don't.. has it started drying out yet??

You can go to work, just make sure you keep it moist with an unscented lotion, Aveeno works really well, this will keep it from scabbing alot and help it heal. Since it's on your lower back I'd stay off the pole and if you have contact dances make sure the guy knows it's a new tat and not to touch it. After two days it will be sore if anyone does.
A girl I work with has a huge alien tattoo on her crotch that wraps around her butt and legs. She got her last session on it and was at work the next day and on the pole. Too much for me but she hasn't damaged the work.
Saran wrap will work, it does trap in moisture and that's what helps it heal quicker. It's just kinda awkward looking.
No offense but....... My tattoo artist would shit! Don't put saran wrap on it, and you definitely NEVER put vasoline on a tattoo... it's a myth that it helps.....you shouldn't even use neosporin, Biactin is the best. No lotion either for a few days. The best thing you can do is just let it breathe, don't let anybody touch it and don't do floor work or roll on your back. Oh and if it should scab up don't pick at it or you'll be pulling the ink out.

i was also going to recommend "tattoo goo".
and (as was mentioned) don't cover it with anything (like saranwrap) and don't put anything like ointment on it (neosporin, vasoline, etc). tattoo goo is the only "product" i've been told to use by many tattoo artists. you can get it at lots of tattoo shops, so you might wanna call around your area and try to find it. other than that you want to avoid over cleansing and you want to give it as much air as possible.
when you -do- wash it, use plain ole dial with no perfumes and wash it gently. then gently PAT it dry and leave it alone. don't "scrub" it and definately don't pick at scabs (let them come off naturally during washing).
you want to try and avoid stretching it, which unfortunately happens when you move around (dance) a lot. the best way to avoid it getting pulled is to keep it moist... and the best way to keep it moist while still allowing it to heal is to use tattoo goo. there may be other products similar that are just as good, but i can't personally recommend any others. you can probably read up on it on various tattoo websites.

^you want the aftercare salve. they also make "upkeep" products. there's an aftercare lotion as well, but i didn't use that. i'm sure it works well though, considering they're a trusted brand.
you can buy it at multiple places online, but like i said, i'm sure they carry it somewhere in your area.

I think every tattoo artiist is going to reccomend something different for the healing process. Just like I've noticed different docs give different advice on BA's (how soon to return to work, etc.)
Speaking from what I've done using an unscented lotion keeps it moist and aids in healing. The saran wrap isn't bad if you don't do it for a long time. I used it to cover the one on my ankle when I went back to work.
ahem...
h2ocean is the best tattoo aftercare product out there for keeping a healing tattoo moisturized and clean.
its antimicrobial, antibacterial, antifungal, and it has sea salts in it, allin a lightweight moisturizing foam.
i made the mistake of not using this one night after a fresh tatto and a guy grabbed me on my arm, and i ended up getting a staff infection in the damn thing.... it was sick, and painful, luckily it healed and was able to be reworked. if its on an arm or leg i recomend arm warmers, or legwarmers or kneesocks (nylon will irritate it, and catch on the newly forming scab.
if nothing else wash it with antibacterial soap a coule times during your shift and pelase dont touch it to the pole!!!
tattoo goo is not good for tattoos on most people, but i wont get into that, its too long a conversation.
and please, do not put saran wrap on an already scabbed over tattoo..... egads...
well. I just kept lots of a/d and lotion on it, and it was fine. no one touched it, and I wore clothes that didn't rub.
it's pealing now, a bit, but I'm on vacation for this week, so it's not around work. (yuck).
