    Default tampon thread

I made a thread a while back about having a tampon stuck inside me. I just did a search and I cannot find the thread.

So basically I am new to using tampons and the last attempt I was pretty dry (it was just for break thru bleeding) and i could not relax enough to get it out.

I have been having lots of break thru bleeding lately so I decided this week I would stop taking the pill on saturday in order to get my period over with before this weekend. I usually take the pill continually so I have not had a period in over a year.
It has still not started yet!! Just a little bit of brown blood.

So now I am panicking at the prospect of having to work this friday and saturday night whilst on my period.

I cant afford to take time off work so I have to once again attempt to use a tampon.

I just finished reading the hall of shame menstral mishaps thread which is making me even more nervous!!!

    QUESTIONS:

    (1) Should I cut or tuck the string
    (2) How often do I need to change the tampon? I dont know if I will be able to relax enough at work to remove it.

If the tampon is not comming out easily, you are using the wrong size. Like for the little bit of brown blood, I would go with a junior size.
When should you change it? Tug on the string a bit, if you feel resistance, it's not ready to come out. When the tampon is ful of blood, it will offer no resistance, and just slide out easily.
Make sure your using the proper size to match your flow. I by tampons in every size, super, regular and junior. At the start when my flow is heavy, I use the super. After 2 days, I can go down to regular size, and then at the end when it's that brown blood I go down to junior. At the start, I change every 1-3 hours. When it tapers down, I can go 4-6 hours. You end up just getting a feel for it, and can tell when it needs changed, you can feel the heaviness. You shouldn't leave it in more than 8 hours..but if you go to bed and sleep for 10 hours, don't panic. No big deal.

PLus if you havent had your period in a year..dont be surprised if it is almost non-existant when it does come. Your body is still pumped full of hormones. I take my pills constantly too so I only get it a few times a year...and it is usually very light and short when I do. (as opposed to the gushing, bleeding to death I used to get!)
My dr. said it was to be expected when you take the pills continuously.

Yes..use the smallest tampon you can find at first. If you find you have to change it more often...go up to the next bigger size.

Tuck the string..if you cut it,itwill be harder to get out..esp if it is dryer. It's easier when you can fish your finger around the string and pull.

I cut my strings, but not very much. I use applicator tampons, and I cut the string at the applicator. Basically I just cut off about 1.5 inches. this leaves enough string to be able to pull it out, but little to none pokes out. If any does poke out, I just tuck it!

Have you tried O.B.? they are itty bitty and rock my world. I get VERy dry also, so I will use water to wet myself a little down there, it helps a ton.
Have tried masturbating abit before applying? I know it sounds odd, but that's how I learned to relax my muslces enough to allow the tampon in, before then it was all pain and no gain, and a lot of wasted tampons!
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

I used to use the slimfits but they stopped making them! They were the only ones small enough for me and now it's the Easy Glide crap. I don't need the big-ass tampon to go in SMOOTHLY I need it to effing FIT!

Tuck the string and you should change it depending on flow. And OB works well... but I'm not sure about Aussie brands. Never used 'em.

OB is a brand of tampon(not sure if they have it out of the US)

Applicator is the carboard or plastic tube the tampon comes in..the part that you throw away after you insert the tampon. (pic #1)
Ob does not have that..it is just the tampon itself, which you insert yourself by pushing your finger against the tampon.(pic # 2)

I prefer an applicator...because I tend to be a bit drier, so it's easier for me. BUt its a matter of preferance.

thanks for this Cameron, seriously I went out today and i bought one of these applicator packs of tampons. I think I will find them much easier to use.

Im still waiting for my period BTW. It's strange, even tho I have been taking the pill consecutively for years as soon as i miss 2 pills i usually get my period. I don't get it. I have the cramps and the headache that I usually get when I get my period but no bleeding

I like menstrual cups because you can wear them 12 hours instead of just 8, they hold way more fluid and there's no string to mess around with. And you don't have to buy a new one for like, a decade.

I know it's not what you were asking, but I'm just throwing it out there

Oh! I totally forgot that applicator tampons aren't as commonly used in Australia! I can't believe I forgot that. They always come in little tiny itty bitty packs of 10 with no applicators...

the tampax brand seemed to disappear for a while down here...

i notice that the actual tampon itself in all applicator types are dodgy... all squished up compared to the DIY ones. i found that the blood found it's way to the string and ran straight out. how awesome is that.

that said, i used applicator ones exclusively for the first 4 or so years of my period. way easier for L-platers... then i converted.

if you don't feel like cutting the string, and you just want to tuck it up between your lips...to help it stay, twist the string between ur thumb & forefinger. This will wind up the string into a little ball, so when you tuck it, it stays better!
