    Default Should I drop this?

Ok, so I had a credit panic about 1 1/2 yrs. ago. Supposedly, my area was going to be hit w/eminent domain, we'd be forced out. Now, supposedly, things are fine. I knew my credit was crappy so I hired on a law firm to help me fix it. I know what a few ppl have said on this forum about that, but I really don't have time to write letters constantly & all that. Anyway, I couldn't find this firm's addy, so I searched them under dogpile. There's some financial forum that really trashes them, & another well-know firm. However, they did 1 big account deleted off my file. As far as my credit goes, I'm a little too dependant on it for my taste. But. I absolutely make it a big priority to pay my bills early, more than the minimum, etc. I know that time should be a healer, (if I continue what I'm doing). I didn't ask for, but got 2 credit limit increases recently. Thanks!

My first question to you is have you seen your credit report?

If you have ALOT of negative items on your credit report and you dont want to deal with it yourself it might be ok. Even though I know some here talk against them, I would still suggest credit counseling. With a legit credit counsler (Not debt management service) they can help you alot. It would also be cheaper than a lawyer. It does not harm your credit score. I have been in credit counseling and i loved it.

If it is just late payments and a few negative items i would strongly urge you to do it yourself. Those can be taken care of online without writing a ton of letters.

If you have any futher questions feel free to pm me.

No matter what you decide to do PLEASE BE CAREFUL. There are alot of scam artists in this area across the board. Some are set up just to steal your information. Some just to steal your money. Please research anyone you decide to deal with.

I recently fixed my credit... I just called all 3 credit bureaus and disputed items with them. Took all of 15 minutes. The guy at equifax was a little dry and rude but ya know... they get pissed off people calling all the time so I guess I understand. I did it once a month until all was clear. One item is still there which irks me a little... its through Equifax...but the problem is finding the correct phone numbers - I just did a google search and tried a few until I found the correct one. Im moving and packing today and tomorrow but if you want them I can get them to you next week. Its really easy... takes no time and you dont need to write a bunch of letters.

My CR score went up 79 points in 3 months... but then my student loans went thru and I bought a car so it went down again Takes time tho for it to get better because I have 2 new really high CR lines ($40K) ...

I thought the same thing - Im not writing all these letters and all this crap. I dont have the time for this and I was just frustrated with the whole thing. Why do I have to do all this work because they dont do their jobs?!

Im on Equifax's monthly plan where you get as many credit reports from them as you want - i get one a month and I pull the other 2 every quarter. I disputed online first but got frustrated when some stuff wasnt taken off so I started calling.

When you call be really nice. I asked the lady at TransUnion how her day was. Said Im a little frustrated but Im sure she can help me. She said I needed to send all this paperwork and crap. I never sent it and the 3 things were taken off my report anyway... good luck and let me know if you want the CORRECT dispute numbers...
