    Default Is it okay?

    Okay, I have a question...

When I start stripping, I intend to only dance to songs that I love. Not unusual right? But the stuff that I love is mostly Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, miscellaneous Clapton... I already made a list of songs from their music that I know I could dance seductively to, but would Cream and Stones and Beatles and so on be appropriate in a strip club? Would I be told by management or whoever that it is not acceptable and that I have to dance to club music or pop and stuff?

I know you really want to dance to your own stuff. And stuff like the Stones isn't all that bad really. But I just wanted to point something out:

The really successful strippers in the business are chameleons. They cater to the customers/audience, not themselves. Do you tip yourself? No, your customers do! So therefore, you play music that you think your crowd would be into. Or to the specific age group/class of customer you think you're the most suited for. Playing music for them gets them more likely to have a better time and thus tip more.

But the one exception I always had was when it was obvious it was slow and the guys were cheapasses who weren't going to tip no matter what, so then I just played what I wanted

^^^ Yes, but what guy doesn't love the Stones, Clapton, the Beatles? I dance to this stuff all the time and they LOVE it. While many strippers may love dancing to the Blackeyed Peas all night long, the customers with money would prefer to go back to a time when they still had a full head of hair, and that was the time of classic rock. I've banked off this music. I say go for it.

I agree Yekh. I just wanted to point out to her as a newbie this stuff, because many time newbies think "Oh, I'll only dance to MY favorites" and then sometimes wonder why they make no money onstage.

And um, I can think of a more than a few guys who DON'T like Clapton or the Beatles. Stones? I agree, most like 'em.

All of those are excellent artists and have many playable songs. The only real problem I see is if the songs you have picked as "Your Faves" are the really awful slow ones. That would probably get management's attention. It all depends on what your particular club allows, of course. I would try to read the crowd a bit, though. That never hurts.

Lol, when making my list I definitely tried to pick songs that I thought would fit a more sensual atmosphere. For instance; Strange Brew I think would be good to strip to, whereas something like You Know My Name Look Up the Number would not be a good choice for that lol. Out of my absolute top five favorite Stones songs, none of them would be good for dancing sensuously to so I had to leave 'em out.

Ah well, you can't have it all.

It would be pretty hard to go wrong with the Stones. I dance to a lot of Stones hits - "Beast of Burden," "Miss You," "Satisfaction," "Under My Thumb," and others - and they've always gone over well. Maybe it's because I tend to work blue-collar clubs, I dunno.

I agree, "Strange Brew" is good to dance to. I would say any Clapton except for "Tears In Heaven" would be appropriate in the club, as long as the girl could rock it.

"Come Together" by the Beatles is one of my frequent tunes, and so is "Hard Day's Night." I tend to play "Hard Day's Night" when people haven't been tipping, so the DJ has a good opportunity to remind them how hard I'm working. Heh.

Really? I was scared about trying any early Beatles stuff, only because of my choreography/creativity skills(low at this point!). Maybe A Taste of Honey or something lol. I'm so curious to see a strip tease done to A Hard Day's Night, it must look so cool!

I was thinking about doing Under My Thumb, Miss You and Beast of Burden, but I don't know if I could come up with anything good to do with BoB.

Do you think Star Star would go over okay?

DJ wise, if you dance to those artists, I would add PLEASE PLEASE grab the re-mastered versions. They sound a bajillion times better. (Or, if your DJ is groovy like me he already has them.)

Dancing to my Welsh hip-hop is the only thing that makes the slow nights worth coming in. It's the only thing that has brought back my stage smile.
I've always danced to what I like, but I have such a variation that I can choose my favorites based on the crowd when we're busy.
But I thoroughly enjoy bringing in "underground" shit even on the busy nights because I am so sick of hearing the same music played over and over, night after night.

Wow...star star...one of the more rockin yet total obscure songs....did you know Joan Jett covered that (and not to badly) all those songs are good. Emotional rescue, I know Its only Rock And Roll and Love is strong are also ones ya might wanna think about. (slave is a good one as well for obscure)

I dance to this stuff... BUT! I only do so when the older guys are the majority in the club. It's about entertaining them, not yourself... so if it's a Friday night and you happen to notice that the majority of the customers are 20's-early 30's? Not gonna go over as well.

I never heard the Joan Jett version. It's Only Rock and Roll is on my list too, Emotional Rescue is a good idea that I never thought of. Rocks Off and Let it Loose are my absolute top two Stones songs, but Rocks Off is so fast and upbeat and sort of chonks along so quickly, I don't think I could move slowly and seductively to it at all lol. And Let it Loose is slower, but in a pretty downbeat way, I'd almost call it depressing lol, so probably never that one either.

Good point. I love lots of music, 80s, 90s, now, and all sorts of genres. I'll have something for everyone I guess, but my heart and souls stuck in the 60s-mid 70s lol.

Oh I hear ya. If I could make a mint by dancing to just what I love best, I'd be rich thanks to a Moody Blues collection CD, yanno? LOL...

As far as rock goes (cause I fancy myself as being able to dance to most genres at this point), I tend to keep the '50s - mid '60s for the grey hairs, '60s - '70s for the dudes who could be my dad, and the '80s - present stuff for the rest.

What are some good Welsh hip-hop bands?
