I have two Capital One credit cards that I've been trying to get rid of. First I called them. They mailed me a check for the amounts I'd overpaid (I don't get my mail, so if I think I have a zero balance I just keep paying like $10/m, just in case), and told me the account would be closed as long as I didn't charge anything to it in the next thirty days. Then they charged me a $3 membership fee, and then, because I didn't pay the $3 bill that month (again with the mail) they charged me a $35 late fee. Eventually I found out and called again. They refused to un-charge me the $35, I asked to talk to a supervisor, and they hung up on me.
I'm about to go out of cell phone range for a couple weeks. What should I do? Is there a way I can *make* them close it?
