Default Never Try to jump into a moving car...

I own an auto repair shop here in Connecticut, which specializes in Transmissions. Well today a customer comes in today to have his 1969 mustangs fluid changed, and also wanted me to drive the car to make sure it was running properly. When I was done driving the car, I left it in front of the shop running, so he could just get in it and go, We were in the office talking for about 5 minutes, when we noticed the car had jumped into reverse, and was headed to a busy street. We both ran after in, it was a convertible, I dove over the side of the car head first attempting to slam it into park, and also to slam on the brake pedal with my hand. The customer attempted to open the door and get in the car, well he was not running fast enough, and the door knocked him over and slammed him to the ground. Luckily the car did not run him over. We were also very lucky that no other cars were coming down the road, as he very easily could have been run over. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital to make sure he was ok. I got a few cuts on my hands and a bruised leg where the antenna jammed into my leg,

This was no the way I wanted to start my day today!!! Luckily no one was seriously hurt!

Uhhh, first mistake IMO, buddy. I don't care if you were only a few feet away. The whole thing could have been prevented but NoOoOoOo. I'll just keep my mouth shut now because otherwise I'll keep bitching about how much I hate it when people ...grrrrr

When people what? Pull you car around the front for you so you dont have to walk to it? This was no different than valet parking, except I didnt expect the customer to chat , me up for a few minutes.

    "We were in the office..."

I could possibly understand if you two were right beside the car chatting with it running but you were in the office. That's what upsets me. That's just me though. It's a long story. Call me crazy.

I'm glad the both of you ended up okay in the end.

what is it about leaving cars running that upsets you, melissa?

when I was a delivery driver I often left mine running to go grab another run, because turning a car on and off 25 times in one day is way worse than leaving it running...

Give us an update if you hear anything back! Yea I think that's happened plenty of times, the mechanic brings it out for you while you pay, etc. Wtf tho, it obviously needed a whole new transmission or something!

The customer is home and doing ok... he is very very sore. We had an independent shop check the vehicle, and they found worn linkage under the dash board, so even though the shifter was in park it didnt push the park mechinism all the way. Turn out this is a big problem with the older Fords

Ugh, Fords. I had one Ford, it was the world's biggest lemon, and I will never, ever spend a penny on another American car. There's a reason they say "FORD" stands for Fix Or Repair Daily.
