Yikes. Hey...whatever floats your boat I guess..if you wantto turn your vagina into a clown car have fun...but IMO..if you REALLY wnat to do somethign good for kids, you'd adpt a cpl in between. Save your body from ongoing abuse of pregnancy(being pregnant THAT often has got to deplete her body to a dangerous level) and save a child who needs a good home.

But that just my opinion. Seems selfish when there are so many kids who need good homes to produce THAT many.

I watched their special on TV a while ago... it freaked me out. They all are home schooled by their mother, it is like some sort of army. Makes me think of a little cult or something. Everyone cannot be that happy about everything all the time, it definitely didn't look normal.

Plus she doesnt parent them. When a new baby is born an older sibling is "assigned " to be its caretaker. WTF??? Yeah..keep having kids YOU cant take care of. The kids didnt choose to have the new baby ..YOU did. If YOU cant be the caretaker..maybe its time to STOP.

They may shop at thrift stores but they just had a HUGE house built to accomodate their family, all with no debt.

If they can afford it, more power to them. It's their religious choice. They feel like it's "meant to be".

I think it is more selfless to adopt, but she is doing what is natural and capable for them I guess.

The family has money. Lots of it, actually...

You should see their home, it's like a damn hospital, or facility of some kind, complete with restraunt quality kitchen.

And yes...when a new child is born, it is assigned a caretaker. All older kids are assigned to "buddy up" with a younger child.
It is bullshit. She shoudl adopt a few if she wants that many kids.

although sooner or later..she's gonna run out of "J" names...maybe she'll stop then?

I believe the family has money from selling their story. Plus a lot of things(like the house) were donated to them.

So yeah...incentive to keep going so they keep being newsworthy...

From what I know the kids don't seem to be minding it too much. Plus they look like they have the means to support them all financially.

Just an amazing miracle of stamina almost, more power to them.

You made me giggle so hard with santa's elf.

I didn't know their house was donated to them...on the special I watched, they said they had money from whatever hubby used to do was very profitable...but yeah, I'm ure selling their story is what keeps them in money.
Discovery health channel runs specials on the all the time...which I watch out of morbid curiosity...

I pray menopause hits soon....it's the only thing that's gonna stop them....she'll probably the kind of woman who don't hit menopause util she's in erh 60's

I feel bad for thoes children..the older one's for not being able to experience life because they are to busy raising babies, and the younger ones because they can't recieve the one on one attention from their parents

the kids don't mind becuse they don't know anything else...they have very sheltered lives...they don't even go to school....

I believe the hubby is an ex- Representative for whatever state they are in..so I'm sure he pull sin a lovely government pension. But enough to support 17 kids and a wife? Like that? And they are planning more? Uh huh...thats show biz money honey!

And I agree..of course the kids dont mind..it's all they know. Being home schooled and having to care for all those siblings..what outside "real" world experience do they have?? Most of these kids will follow the same path..marry someone from church(maybe even someone the parents choose) adn pop out a cult of their own. I'm sure they will be happy...they have no idea there is any other way to live or that they are missing out on anything.

I wonder if her nanna is like flapping around like sheets in the wind?

More power to them if they can afford it and the children have a good quality of life. Both of which it seems like they have. This has got to be a world record here.

I grew up with a family like this! When I left the cult/church at 16, they had 13 kids from 16 to newborn and all the boys had (mostly bible) J names-Jeremiah, Joshua, whatever. Only 3 girls though. I bet by now they had a ton more.

I guess it's their choice, but I don't think kids need to be taking care of little babies, IMO.

Human vanity at it's most disgusting. They're fundamentalist Christians and from what I understand a major goal of that movement right now is to be fruitful and multiply so they can create more soldiers in the war against gay marriage and abortion. I've read some pretty fucked up shit on the topic lately. Children are literally being raised as armies.

I agree that it is more than a little unsettling, especially considering that there are more than 6 billion people in the world, but it is there basic human right. I wouldn't want restrictions on the number of births like China has any more than I would want a requirement for births like Romania had during it's communists times. These children are not being abused or neglected which is more than I can say for some families who only have one or two kids. Also they are not living off of mine, or anyone else's tax dollars.

Yes, of course it is unnatural to have 17 children. Had she lived just a century or more ago, many of her children, as well as herself, would be dead by now. But it's just as unnatural to have 0, or 1-2 children. These are all advents of modern medicine.

And it's not just fundamentalists Christians who believe in having large families, many Muslims, Orthodox Jews, and Catholics believe in it as well. Speaking of Catholics, I was just so reminded of the Monty Python skit in Meaning of Life.

It's not just a belief. It's a new strategy in what they consider to be a war they are fighting.

Could this be a case of pregnancy/ Child birth fetish?

Some people will go to great lengths to indulge a fetish.

Of course, if this was indeed a fetish, they'd NEVER admit to it.

Good point, Paris. I knew a Catholic guy who had a serious pregnancy/birth fetish; all throughout sex (never with me, thank G-d) he would get off on the idea that he was going to get his girl pregnant. He would go on and on about how it was important for us all to try and make as many babies as possible, because "future people want to live," and he had no problem with the idea of cramming a family with 15 children into a one-bedroom apartment because it was important for the children to hear mommy and daddy making more babies. You could tell he was extremely sexually excited by this concept. It was weird.

And people say the same thing about Hispanics in the United States and Muslims in Western Europe. (That they are trying to outbreed the majority whites.)
