Default For the San Diego Peeps...

I keep having dreams about this city!? I've never even been there! I always told myself that if I decide to not go back to Hawaii, and I decide to stay on the mainland to live instead, than San Diego would probably be my next best bet for me to call home. I want to buy a house in a few years, too. I've heard nothing but good things about the city. Do you guys like living there? What is the lifestlye like? I want to live in a hot, sunny, and beachy place FOREVER!!! Is it super-expensive? Any and all info/comments would be greatly appreciated...THANK YOU ALL!!!

Yes its expensive. I would start at craigslist for housing or real estate sales. Then research some of the areas you're looking at. Found this too.

Overall, you pay for the weather here. Gas, taxes, housing, groceries, etc. Its sunny most of the time and even in January where I once called my friend from the beach neener neenering at her. Cheapest gas I've found is 2.85/gal. Anywhere near downtown or the beach is expensive. In a decent part of town for a house expect to pay between low 300's (not so great small place) to the high 600's (more like 3 bedrooms size at most). Condos are like high 200's to low 400's 2 bedroom 2 bath size with square footage varying. Most of the houses are older here.

Yes, I like living here. Theres so much more to do than my hometown. I can go to the mountains and the beach in the same day. Beach anytime I want. The lifestyle is laidback, lots of tourists in June through September crowding up the beaches, typical guys you find everywhere, surfers, hippies, etc. So if you have anymore Q's ask away.

    ^^ What she said.

But yes, I do enjoy living here. The weather is great and there is a lot to do. I'm very happy here.

I'll be in San Diego for almost a week starting next Sunday...won't get to see much more than downtown but it's one of the places I'm considering to move to when I return to the States in a couple of years

I think after Puerto Rico my next business trip will be to San Diego. I've got to check this city out, seriously.

It's an awesome city! If I wasn't so cheap I'd move there in a heartbeat. It is really expensive, but not as bad as the new york city area. Mileia, go there as soon as you can...you'll love it!

San Diego..... I moved there on a complete whim, never having been there before. It was paradise for the first couple years. Then reality set in. It is expensive, whats known as the "sunshine tax". the weather is pretty close to perfect all year round. In fact, I always wanted to visit hawaii, thought it would be heaven on earth, and while i was living in SD I took a vacation to hawaii, and while it was beautiful, I couldnt wait to get back to SD. There are pros and cons, as with any place. My main caveat, and my reason for eventually bailing was the people. This doesnt speak for all san diegans, of course, but there were far too many who were not genuine. Especially the men I had the misfortune of meeting while there. I have NEVER in my life lived in a place where being in a relationship, marriage, whatever has absolutely zero meaning. All of the married men i knew regularly cheated on their wives, and the ones in serious relationships did too. Should you move there, dont be mistrustful, but do be careful with your heart, and body (also never met so many individuals with infectious STD's!)

I went to university there at UCSD. It was the best time of my life. Beautiful weather, beautiful people, great scenes for all ages, and not too overpopulated.

I'm definitely going to move back there some day and get a place in La Jolla.

^THat must have been a long time ago. La Jolla is beautiful but it is PACKED.

It's sort of hard for me to be objective here, since I've never lived anywhere else... The weather is pretty... low 40's, high 30's in the dead of winter and generally 80's in the summertime. It's crowded and there's a lot of traffic (so you have to plan your schedule accordingly). There's a ton of stuff to do, regardless of your scene or your age. It's a short drive from pretty much anything you want to do... LA, mountains, hiking, beach, Mexico... It is expensive to live here, but it's not impossible. I think the people here are generally nice. There are some nuts, but that's what you get with so many people. There are all sorts of different areas in this city and they all have a different feel to them.

Personally, I live in the county. It's about 30 minutes down the freeway to the heart of the city and I don't have to live right in the hustle and bustle.

There are all sorts of beaches from rocky La Jolla coves with the seals and the hermit crabs (I LOVED that when I was a kid) to Mission where it's flat and sandy with the ferris wheel nearby and bars and shops lined up to the more quiet beaches a bit further north where you have to hike down some cliffs to get to.

I am not a San Diego peep, but here I am in my hotel room in downtown San Diego. About to head out to Seaport Village for a few hours.

I have not been to S.D. for almost 25 years, but it is still as beautiful as I remembered it. I have always wanted to live here, but so far that has not been in the cards. Maybe someday it will work out.
