It's possible that there is something wrong with whichever cat is going outside the litter box. Going outside the litter box is one of the clues that your cat might be sick. It isn't normal for a cat to go outside the litter box if it's clean, because they naturally want to cover the smell. If you do a search online you'll see. Just recently my cat died from advanced heart disease, and she had been going outside the litter box. I didn't realize that it was a warning sign at the time - I thought she was being spiteful. I'm not trying to scare you or say that your cat is definitely sick, but you should be aware.
