When you've already talked to everyone...

I'm dancing at a club that charges no house fee if you're ready to work at opening time. It's nice, but there are a few hours of downtime that can bring down my whole night. You know those first few hours when it's slow, and there are maybe five guys in the bar. You flirt with them all for two or three songs, then offer a dance, and it's a no sale - either they don't want to spend the money, or it's early and they just want to nurse a beer and ease into things, or whatever. You don't want to sit and yak with them for free, so what do you do? I've taken to playing a round of Tetris on my phone, but I feel like there has to be a more productive way of spending my time. I feel like there's got to be a way of making money during this initial slow period. What is it?

I wish I knew. My club is like this too..I spend the first hour or two at least twiddling my thumbs.
Sometimes I bring a book or magazine and go into the dressing room and relax in bewtween talking to the 4 guys that are there.

Yeah, I was thinking of bringing my GRE prep book so at least I can study some, but I would rather be making money. I just KNOW there's a way of getting money out of these guys, somehow! They're just not spending it because no one wants to be first. Guys are such sheep.

try them, then try again. don't sit alone where they can see you, though, talk to another girl or a bouncer or something for a few minutes. then go back and try again. you can ask them to help you "get warmed up" since it's the beginning of the night, or when you go back you can tell them you "just couldn't wait any longer, you missed them" or something along those lines.

I deal with this almost every day. I myself have become pretty good at tetris! Sometimes the free house isn't really worth it. If those hours of sitting around drag you down, by the time a spending customer is there, I might be too pissy. One of those.. six in one, half dozen in the other.

yes, definitely find someone to talk to, or read a book, but visibly playing on a phone i think is no good, although i've been known to text on the floor if it's dead. jsut do something that keeps you HAPPY. that's most important.

    Love it!

I also face this problem a lot. My club is somewhat small and doesn't fill up during the day. After I have made attempts around the room it is easy to get frustrated/bored, because like you said, they want to nurse their beer, ect. During this time I don't like to sit out on the floor by by myself, or talking to time-wasters for free. But I also don't want to be sitting in the back in case new customers or 'the one' comes in.

^^^ Yes, that's the dilemma! I don't want to be seen just sitting there by myself, but I don't want to miss it when customers come in. I can mill around and chat with the bouncers and the bartender and the cocktail waitress for a few minutes, but not the whole time. It's tough to know what to do and I often get so irritated with the early non-spenders that I'm bitchy by the time real customers come in. I don't want to pay the $35 it costs to come in late though. I guess I'll just bring my GRE book and study.

OK, so, Ive been told by OTHERS in this business NOT to talk to the bouncers or management...and now im not exactly sure why, but I threw out that rule a WHILE ago because i cant NOT talk to them...Im a VERY friendly upbeat person so if there isnt anyone in the place,Ill either just walk around OR talk to the bouncers...I made it a purpose a long time ago to make friends with at least TWO of the bouncers in ANY club that i work in....just because you may never know when you need that "friend"......one of the girls in the old place i just left gave me some valuable advice...."Even if you have no where to go, LOOK like you do...." meaning walk with a purpose. I dont play on my phone but i WILL go where ever the smoking area is for the girls and have a smoke...Thats when ill go back and walk around some more...

i play video games or read a book/mag. if i don't want to be seen doing either i'll go in the dressing room and play with my make-up for a bit, or text friends till the scenery on the floor changes.

i know the feeling, sometimes it's not busy till 9 or so. But i usually use this time in the first few hours to focus on selling my drinks and maybe just trying for a few lapdances. that way i've already made my tipout and the rest of the money all night is MINE!

We have that early slow crowd as well.. and the same free housefee for being there early. I either play pool or play a video game on our little machine.. and try to avoid the bar, because getting tipsy before a crowd shows up is bad news for me!

There is nothing to do. Welcome to the small club world. Just relax, chat a bit with the girls, get to know the staff. I work in those clubs like that. You just do your stage sets and wait for the business.

I have been working some of the small clubs once a month for some time now and customers have gotten to know me. The regular guys who come to see their favorite girls tend to come in early, and some nights they keep me busy. For a new girl working from scratch this isn't happening much. Montana clubs don't have as many regulars who come in early and get 5-10 dances from their favorite dancers like in some of the rural Midwest towns. Some girls say they get regulars in Teasers though. It's a busier club. Have you tried working there?

I sit in the CR and visualize myself dancing in there with a customer. I like when new customers see me walking out of the CR. I sit in the DR and concentrate on telepathically bringing wealthy respectful customers to the club. I learn something about a coworker in the DR. I drink water because when all thise wealthy respectful customer come in I won't have time to hydrate!

Note: I don't work days; I do these things when I come in early evening.

I would try to recruit regulars to come see you earlier in the evening. This might be harder if you are not a regular house girl, though, but it's worth a try. Try to sell the few guys that are there that "you are fresh and ready to get broken in" or "ready to warm you up"... something like that.

    I feel your pain.

Summers in LV are dead, especially early in the evening. I have to be in by 7pm sharp now. I had been coming around 9pm and I got caught and got talked to by the GM (John...eek) and now he checks what time I log in...Grrrr!

Coming in early sucks, but I too need to find a way of not becoming a bitch by the time money shows up. I can't hang out in the dressing room at all (too crowded and no chairs).

Right now, I sit by myself on the floor (after I have talked to everybody in the room) and try not to get annoyed or tired too early unless I can come up a with something better. Suggestions?

Try to sell them, but if to no avail, try to keep yourself happy so that it doesn't kill your hustle.

    Good Luck!

Yek, when I was there I just looked at those first few hours as me time for a pedicure or reading or whatever. I'd go out and hustle every customer and then go back to that nice dressing room and do my toenails, then go out and hustle every customer, then back to the dressing room and read a short chapter in my book, then out to hustle every customer. All the other girls would be bitching about cheap motherfuckers and not enough customers, but I'd have a perpetual good attitude that I think made up for the occasional customers that I'd miss that way.

Ironically, since I posted this I haven't had much downtime. I've stayed pretty busy this week and am having the best week of my stripping career. Last night I made a deal with myself - I get a 10-minute break to put my feet up and play Tetris or read every $100 I make. I don't get to chill out or take that break until I make my $100; I have to stay on the floor until I make it. I got to take four such breaks last night.

    Congratulations!!

I just wanted to add to the thread that I like to take mental vacations during the slow times. I would do things to distract myself to the point where I wasn't even mentally in the club (like reading, drawing or having a long phone conversation), and that would keep me fresh and not all pissed off when the good custies came in.

But I would also want to keep an eye on the floor, which is impossible to do from the DR in some places. A lot of other girls (or as I call them, "vultures") would snag guys as soon as they walked in the door, but I think they were the type to sit right by the entrance and HARASS the custies until they gave in and got a dance. That's not really my style.

I guess the trick is finding the balance.

Something that has worked really well for me:

Whenever you get a customer that asks you out/asks you for your number, tell him that you need to get to know him better first. Tell him that if he really wants some quality time with you, to come in early one day, when it's not too busy, and you can really concentrate on him.

This tactic kills two birds with one stone: 1. Getting him off your back about the date/number, but making him think that you're still interested. 2. Gets you (and only you) more business during the daytime.

Another trick for when it's slow if you have a friend is when you get one of those 1-2 dance guys, send your friend over next. She'll get 1-2 dances like you did. Then hit him with a double whammy and he'll get the same 1-2 dances with the two of you.

Good idea, Lena. I did do a couple of double-dances with a friend the other night, but it was at the end of the night. I never thought about splitting up first and then going in for the double. I'll mention this to her and we'll try it next week. Thanks!

try going in later, if you can. I often make the mistake of thinking "ooh, i'll be there before 6 so I get a free house fee"...it's NEVER worth it. I end up rushing to get there, and then sitting around for hours while 4 or 5 losers nurse their one lonely beer and get free stage shows...by the time the crowd does show up and people start spending, my mood is sour, my attitude is resentful and bitchy, my feet hurt, and I'm tired and cranky. And by that time I feel desperate and panicking b/c I've been there for hours and haven't made shit...and customers can totally smell that, so I start attracting all the douchebags that like to take advantage of desperate dancers.

Getting on the floor a few minutes before 9 might cost me more, but I can easily make the house fee and then a lot more, b/c I'm not worn out and tired of all the bullshit by the time the crowd gets going. Work smarter, not harder.

I was going in at 7pm to get a $10 house fee. Not quite worth it most nights. I often feel the same way you do--by the time the money DOES get there, you're feeling pissed and disgruntled. But yet I was there EVERY night early on.

I decided this summer, that on sundays and mondays, I'd bring in games for me and the girls. Twister, CandyLand, etc. We had fun fucking around in VIP with Twister, where we could still see who was walking in the door. Kept us in a good mood, actually laughing and smiling. That, or we'd practice houla-hooping and laugh at each other.

Other than having fun and NOT making money, um... I have noticed that at 7 or 8pm, there are a lot of regulars still there. Get to know as many as you can. Perhaps you'll get a few to wait for you and save some dances for you, as most seem to spend a quota on the dayshift girls, and leave when they're spent.
