    Lumpia

My manager was gonna bring me some lumpia tonight but her kids ate it all. Man I was looking forward to some of it. So I wanna make some.

Does anyone else make lumpia out there (LadyJade I'm looking your way Miss Betty Crocker) and if you do what stuff do you put inside of them? I hear a bunch of weird things like bananas, beef, potatoes etc. Each mixed in with a different ingredient.

OMG!!! I haven't heard anyone mention lumpia since I left hawaii! LOL! Lumpia is the best...I love the banana one the best but the beef ones are really good too

I've never tried to make it myself...although after three years of not having any it doesn't sound like a bad thing to try!

oooooooooooh we made that all the time in the Philippines. Ours had seasoned ground beef with peas and carrots. Haha pretty Americanized, huh? Banana lumpia is good too...kinda like banana fritters.

In addition to lumpia, I effing heart pancit :drools:

I can't make any today. Rural grocery stores don't typically stock lumpia wrappers.

Well the way I know is you make the insides first then stick em in the wrapper. Roll em up and fry.
Lumpia is like an egg roll. I'm part Filipino so I make mine with pork and a splash of ginger. People make them all different ways.

Oh I've eaten this before! My roommate took me to a Filipino restaurant the night after I made a total ass of myself getting drunk for the first time.

It was so good. I wanna go to a Filipino restaurant now.

TM, I once found frozen lumpia at Bristol Farms, I think...or possibly TJ's or Whole Foods, but I'm pretty sure it was Bristol. Those are actually the only lumpia I've ever tried, so I can't tell you if they're good or bad compared to the "real thing", but they might satisfy a late-night craving if you can find them....

I know how to make lumpia. Granted, I haven't made it in FOREVER, but I still remember how, plus my mom cooks it all the time. My favorite is banana lumpia, but I don't know how the hell she makes it. My favorite meat lumpia has a mixture of ground beef, chopped carrots, celery, onions, and garlic. You just mix all of this up together along with salt/pepper/accent, raw in a bowl, and then fry the meat mixture until the it is brown. Roll each lumpia using raw egg to make it stick. Or you can roll it, without even cooking the mix...it just takes a little longer to cook it. Then fry each lumpia with cooking oil in batches until golden brown. The pain in the ass is rolling each one up....it can take hours depending on how many you want to make. If you have anymore questions you can PM me. This is my favorite simple recipe, though.
