    Default Weight loss progress

Well I've lost 9lbs since 7-16. I wish it would come off faster, but I guess I'm doing this right. Working out a lot and eating healthy. So far you can' t really tell by looking that I've lost any, which is pissing me off. Oh Well! I guess it will start being noticeable soon. Here are the pics! The first one is from my 7-16 post, the rest are from a few days ago. So I'm thinking I may need to adjust my goal since the first 9 lbs don't show at all. You can see my abs really tightening up in the one pic, but I still have a tummy. It's driving me crazy because my son is now 3 mos old and I still look a little pregnant from the side. Any advice on how to lose the tummy faster. (Keep in mind I'm nursing, so I can't crash diet or take anything.)

    Thanks for keeping me motivated!

I had my son in a sling and carried him around until he was 6 months old and stated to crawl. It burns a lot of extra calories.

The single most effective way to lose weight after giving birth is to express breast milk as much as possible and eat healthy. Full time feeding/expression burns as many calories as running 9 miles every day!!!

The great thing about breast milk is that you will keep producing as long as there is a need. So if you ween your child off breast milk at the 6 month mark (which we suggest), continue pumping milk to burn those extra calories. There's no way to flatten your tummy without flattening everything else, but breast feeding with proper diet and exercise is the way to go. Cheers.

Why do you suggest weaning at 6 months?

    || yes, what AlexxaHex said. The APA recommends breastfeeding for _at least_ the first 12 months of a child's life.

I think there might be some confusion here. Exclusive breast feeding is not recommended after 6 months. Below is an excerpt from the American Academy of Pediatrics breastfeeding guinelines.

"Exclusive breastfeeding is ideal nutrition and sufficient to support optimal growth and development for approximately the first 6 months after birth.100"

"Gradual introduction of iron-enriched solid foods in the second half of the first year should complement the breast milk diet.102,103"

Women find that when they stop exclusively breast feeding (during the weaning process) they stop producing as much milk and thus stop burning as many calories. This loss of can be circumvented with breast pumps. Hope that cleared things up.

To be exceptionally clear, there is a distinct difference between weaning an infant off breast milk and introducing solid foods. This, however, has nothing to do with the OP's original concern.

Jasmine, you look fantabulous for anyone, much less being just 3 months post partum. Whatever you are going, continue doing it, because it is working.

I think you meant to say there is a distinct difference between weaning and stopping breastfeeding. To be exceptionally exceptionally clear - "weaning is the introduction of solid foods into the diet of a baby who is drinking breast milk or formula milk." When a baby stops breastfeeding all together it is considered weaned.

Sorry about the confusion, thanks for keeping me on my toes doc.

Thanks everyone for being so nice. I'm posting pics every few weeks to keep me motivated.

Dr Wulf - I breastfeed exclusively, so that helps I know. I will continue to nurse for at least a year. Also I know fat loss is everywhere and you cant spot reduce, however a lot of my problem in my midsection is lack of muscle tone.

Lexi - My routine is a half hour of elliptical or stairmaster 3-4 days a week, and a half hour of weights (I try for 5-6 days, but with 2 kids it never seems to happen).

    My diet is
Breakfast - Coffee w/skim milk and a high protein granola bar (like SouthBeach)
Lunch - Turkey sandwich on double fiber bread and a salad
Dinner - Grilled chicken breast and 2 servings of veg(or Lean Cuisine), plus a salad
Snack - Granola bar or Weight Watchers Chocolate cake desert of PB toast

I just wish I saw faster progress. I mean I know I don't work out that much, but I never cheat on my diet and I am constantly on the run, with my 2 kids in tow.

    Thanks everyone for the support!

    Jasmine
