    Default Urinary Tract Infection

I'm pretty sure I have a UTI. I'm engaged so unless my man brough thome a little gift, that must be it. I feel like I have to pee every three minutes and it's slightly irritating when I do. My stomach area feels a little goofy.

So what do I do about it? Does the cranberyy drinking thing really work?

Cranberry works for prevention, but not once you already have it. You'll need to see your doctor for an antibiotic.

yes, you need antibiotics-they'll only be a short course of pills, maybe three days worth, also drink loads and loads of water to help make sure that the infection doest go further into your body (i had 2 urinary tract infections last year, so unfortunately i'm a bit of an expert) lol

In the meantime, go tot he drugstore and get Urostat, Cystex or Azo. It will help until you can get to the Dr.

^^^ Cystex is useless in my experience, but AZO Standard is a godsend. Just wear a pantyliner because it stains your pee brilliant neon orange and it will ruin your panties. That dye does not come out.

It prob depends on everyones body chemistry because Cystex has worked fine with me. It does stain your pee pretty colors though!

Cranberry juice, in my experience, helps soothe the symptoms of a UTI, but it does not make it go away. Only antibiotics can do that

If you're urine is cloudy and has a strange smell, it probably is just a UTI. I'd get to the doctor before it becomes really painful, which it will if you wait. I'm just getting over one and it took about 12 hours on Cipro before the cloudiness & smell went away, but I caught mine really early. Good luck.

I used to get these all the time. Yeah, you definately need to go to a doctor right away, because untreated it could cause kidney problems really fast. My doctor told me to keep taking cranberry pills even while on the medication because the cranberry keeps the bacteria from being able to stick to the walls of your bladder, which is why it sometimes comes back after you get off the medication, so DO take cranberry pills. They're much more effective than drinking juice. Cranactin is the best one and you can get it at health food stores.

There is no way to diagnose a UTI by the smell and color of your urine. I had cloudy urine for a lot of my pregnancy but didn't have an infection.

If you're going to get cranberry juice rather than the pills, get the bitter unsweetened stuff from the health food store. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and really try to avoid lunch meats, hot dogs (nitrates) and sugar.
As far as I know, antibiotics are the only cure, but cranberry makes the walls of your bladder and urinary tract "slippery" to bacteria so everything gets flushed out more efficiently. And good luck. That shit hurts.

You definitely need antibiotics ASAP. As mentioned above, if UTI's are left untreated they can progress to chronic bladder infections and irreversible kidney damage.

As for the cause. Sometimes these infections just happen, and sometimes they're a result of poor hygeine. So keeps yourselves clean and always use the bathroom after intercourse to reduce the chance of future infections. Take care.

    It will be helpful.

Plus you can sometimes give yourself a UTI without the help of anyone else if, at any time, you may have allowed contact between your anus and vagina. IE wipe your vagina front to back !!! always !!!

even the smallest amount of bacteria from the anus placed near your urietha (sp?) can cause UTIs.

So it isn't necessarily "your man" who may have given you it.

I've had it when I was single (no men in sight).

Haha, I meant a 'little gift' as in burns-when-you-pee chlamydia, as in, I know I am a UTI and not an STD.

Get to a doctor for some antibiotics. I let a UTI go back in January and ended up in the ER with a kidney infection. Long story short, I had to go on an IV and major painkillers/antibiotics for the infection. I also took cranberry pills - they are sold in drugstores. I continued to take them for a few months after my infection just to be on the safe side. So, take it from me - get the antibiotics before it gets worse! And, drink a LOT of water and cranberry juice - the 100% juice kind that doesn't have sugar in it. You'll pee a lot, but between the water/juice and antibiotics, you'll feel better in no time!

Yup, go see the doctor now. I get them all the time even though mine are painless, and decided id just deal with the smell. I went on like that for months until a couple weeks ago, i got seriously sick and ended up in the Hospital for a week to treat it. Its VERY painful, so go to the doctor ASAP.
