    Default 18 Minute Sets

I've read a few times on SW about girls doing 18 minute sets! How common are these? Is it only in Canada, where girls are booked through agencies?
That seems like a Looooooooonnnnggggggg time to be on stage. How many times do you go up during your shift?

I'm bad at math, but what is that, 4 four and a half minute songs?

do you choreograph a routine, or improv? Sorry to ask so many questions but I'm really curoius how this works.

That's nothing. I used to work at a club that had 2 stages, 6 poles, 2 songs at every pole, and when it was busy on Fri/Sat, that meant full rotation w/ approx 20 girls. The math:

    2 songs X 6 poles=12 songs
    12 songs X 3 minutes= 36 minutes

20 dancers, 6 girls on stage at a time, just over an hour between sets.

As far as what do you do? Something flashy at the beginning to wow them and then go from guy to guy rotating between 4 or 5 moves to collect tips.

That is a long set...You'd think the girls would get bored up there. And the customers too.

Nah its actually really easy. I do 18 - 25 minute shows all the time. You wear a nice costume(i'll post a few pics when I get home) its 4 songs apx 4 1/2 min each though you can have a 3min song and a 5 min song.. etc its straight forward. Its mostly western Canada and features that do it. The girls here put A LOT into their shows though so they're not boring. A lot of us will add a paint show to it or wax or something fun at the end. In Alberta you wear a nice costume, dance three songs then play the loonie game on your 4th song. The shows here are high energy, a lot of pole work and awesome floor shows. The customers love it because its actual shows here not just a girl wandering around bored.

I would for sure rather see an enthusiastic presentation than a Stepford Stripper with a distant, vacant stare.

I guess I forgot to account for the audience interaction and collecting tips, because that makes a difference.

I almost hate to ask but what 's a loonie game? It must be some kind of tip-me-now-game?

The girls have posters, magnets, keychains, lighters and teeshirts with their pictures(promo) on them. You sit on your blanket, roll up a poster like a funnel type thing and the guys throw loonies into the poster. 3 in gets a magnet, 5 in gets a poster etc... guys get right into it and love it and will throw tons of money at you. I've made anywhere from $30 a show to $900 a show in loonies and toonies. Its awesome.

Bah. I didn't like them. A guy in Tbay rather obnoxiously called up to me as I went around the pole "yeah, we've seen that one...are you just going to keep repeating the same four moves?" "Yes I am."

So...well if you do them all week, it helps make you feel more in shape.

Where I work at were on stage for about 45 minutes... 4-5 stages in a row... 10 minutes per stage. Youre sweaty and tired and need about 30 minutes to re-coup after. Luckily with there being roughly 60 girls youre on stage once maybe twice a night....

Yea here its one girl at a time. The stages are huge. Im in Calgary right now where a high energy show is demanded. The more energy and moves you have the more money you make and your expected to cover the entire stage(I swear its freakin huge here!). Its a lot of fun though and keeps you in great shape

Damn I wanna play the loonie game...

Are you in a bikini for one song, topless for one, nude for two? Is it left to your discretion?

No bikinis, its costumes. Dancing is expencive to get started in Western Canada. You invest a lot of money into photoshoots and graphics for your promo, then to get it all printed then the costumes run anywhere from $200 - $1500 per costume. A lot of rookies start out buying used costumes from other dancers though so its not as expencive. When I get home i'll post some pics of mine(they're on my laptop).

Basically its like a jacket or top with a bra under it, pants or skirt with a thong or whatever under it then little extras to it like a choker or gauntlets(sp?).

    Good example is

At my first club we always did 20 minute sets, and if we were really short on girls they'd sometimes keep me up there for 30 or 40.
45 was the longest I ever did and I was livid because no one told me ahead of time, so I thought it would just be 20 minutes!
At the next club I worked at some girl was trying to be a bitch to me and some other new girl by telling the DJ (deliberately loud enough so we could hear her and kind of looking over) that the new girls should have to do 20 minute sets, to break us in. She said it in this sadistic way like it would KILL us! I just laughed at her and told her if the money was right I could go do 40, whatever. They normally do 10 minutes at that club (though I've noticed she usually gets off stage a minute or two early... somebody's tiiiiiired... )

I worked at a club that was basically just stage dancing, the sets were 20 minutes long then 20 minutes off stage. The shifts were only about 3 hours long with 4 girls a shift.

Our sets are 15 mins long, we do one about every hour or so which equals between 5 and 10 per night.

Yes they get terribly boring esp when you have a shit audience.

Cally pretty much covered it from a canadian perspective...I couldn't believe how long it felt when I first started, and like Molly, felt like I was always repeating the same 4 moves. Actually, that is still what I do, but the difference is I'm not self-conscious aboutthe fact anymore, lol.

Yes, 4 4.5 minute songs is standard. One piece comes off first song, in bra and underwear by end of second song, bra off halfway through third, and undies off halfway through fourth. I choose my music to make sure it is arranged in order of descending tempo.

If you do paint or fire (or anything else flashy), speed it up to allow for a half song for that stuff.

I love 15 - 20 minute sets, Im very used to them as at my old club you would do 15- 20 minutes every hour. Doing 10 minute sets seems like nothing in comparrison. I have no choreography, I just wing it.

I can easily do a 25 minute set... you just wear a big fancy costume with lots of pieces to take off, collect tips, give things away and bring along a few novelties (eg lotion, oils, candles)

We do three song sets, and it's not unusual to be up there for 25 min. The dj's never cut the songs short, not even when it's Stranglehold. And we go up about ten times a night, so yeah, it sucks.

I hate clubs that don't cut the songs. My first club was like that and it was exhausting. Like, when the fuck is this song gonna end??

At my current club we often do 15-30 minute sets. At night, the DJ mostly plays until the girl starts getting her money off of the stage. We're really big on stage sets though because we make a lot of our money on stage.

It's not that bad. I've had to do 30 minute sets whenever I was the only dancer.

In the clubs I book at 15-20 minute sets are the norm. At one club I book at in Minnesota, 5 girls work a night, the first being at 5PM. The second at 5:20, then 5:40, 6:00 and 6:20. We have assigned stage times and you don't have to be at work until your assigned first stage time. You can also leave after your last stage set at night if you choose.

Most small clubs want someone on stage at ALL times, even if there are only 2 customers. You get used to it though.

I would like to make a distinction, though, to counter the 'it's no big deal, it's easy' posts...in Western Canada, in most clubs, there is nothing else going on when you're on stage...few or no lapdances happening, not many girls working the floor...so you're IT. ALL eyes on you. If your show doesn't rock, the customers are bored, the club is mad, &etc.

THAT is why I feel 18 minutes is long. I can go on stage and fart around collecting tips for hours. NOT that I'm saying that's what anyone or everyone does, but it's been my experience at the US clubs I've worked at.

Wow! Did EVERYONE work at The Bouzouki in Detroit! (Latina Rose will totally know what I'm getting at!)

They used to do that to us all the time. Especially if there were'nt enough girls working, or it was really slow... It was like shit man, its not our fault!

My routine was just freestyle. After a while you just sort of fall into a routine from freestyling it, but it's never exactly the same. Depends on the crowd, music, mood etc...

I honestly never really minded much because I enjoy the stage.
