    am i too fat???

i am new to the "dancing" business, and lately a lot of the customers that come into the club i dance at, tell me that i look like i need to lose about 3-5 pounds. i am 5' 4" and i weigh 150 pounds.
am i truly too fat to be dancing???
or do they just want to see a thinner woman???
please tell me what you think. all critisism is welcomed!

    1) theres really no way to tell..everyone carries their weight differantly and we dont really know what you look like, whether it is fat or muscle, etc..
    2) guys say shit like that to everyone..whether they deserve it or not. In fact..the hotter the girl, the more LIKELY that some guys will try to knock her down

So dont worry about it. You obviously arent too fat if you got hired.

    lose 3-5 lbs?

what a weird amount, especially to hear a lot. You know better than we do though.

You can try to lose a few and see if you like it.

Please refer to the newbie forum, where there is a huge thread about questions like "am I too fat".

To be honest, we can't tell without pictures. On some people with your height, 150 would look very heavy (For instance, I am 5'4 and 135, and I have some extra chub. If I weighed 150, I'd look very fat). Someone else, who did a lot of weight lifting and toning, 150 could look slim and toned, because muscle takes up less space than fat, and weighs more, it can look slim but be deceptively heavy.

    Well....Here's a height/weight chart

So if you have a large frame, then you would be proportionate.

Everyone carries their weight differently...at 5'7" for me..150 looks pretty fat.
When I weighed 150, many many people told me I was chubby.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this so I'll try to keep this as medically relevant as possible.

A useful tool is the BMI calculator. This calculator takes into account your height and weight then gives you a rough idea of where you stand. The problem is that it doesn't take into account body type or race or muscle mass - so take it with a grain of salt.

Most dancers fall between 18 and 22 on a BMI chart. And that's the area that generally most men find physically attractive.

Another rough rule of thumb is to imagine a 5' tall girl to be 100 pounds and add 5 pounds for every inch taller she is. Hope this helps.

^ bmi tells me i'm overweight... how do i tell that it's not counting any of my muscle???

i don't listen to BMI's unless a doctor is measuring all over my body.

5'=100 would be really off for a lot of dancers, especially those who are busty, muscley or generally curvaceous. The look and ability of the body is far more important (at least at face value ITC). Not flaming, just saying. I am a total pear, but in a sorta curvy athletic/gymnast sort of way and at 4'10" I weigh about 105. And by Kayllin's chart, that's good.

Anyhoo-3-5 lbs is sort of a weird amount for custies to point out. If they were saying 10-20 lbs, then maybe there could be some truth there, but I think they are just being picky bastards, honestly. You might need to tone up, since you are new to dancing (hell, don't we all sometimes?), but more likely you need to carry yourself a little more confidently? Is there a body part you're 'hiding' under clothes or covering more with your arms? Bastards pick up on this. Also, realize the weight mentioners are usually the hugest, slovenliest guys. Ignore them.

maybe what they're saying is that you should lose 35 pounds, not 3-5. Anyhow, this thread is useless without a pic.

Nah..BMI doesnt account for muscle vs fat, the weight of implants, etc....BMI is very deceptive.
Its a rough idea...but very rough. According to BMI, I can go down to 115 and still be within healthy parameters. At 115...I'd be near death.

The customers are saying 3-5 pounds to be "nice". To soften the blow when they tell you they think you're too fat. Guys are that stupid.

If you hear this alot, and if you're asking this question in the first place, then yeah, you need to lose some weight.

No one can say for sure without seeing, but at 5'4 and 150, unless you're a bodybuilder, I'd say you're a bit heavy.

ya, 5'4'' at 150. that's a lot. I think you'd need to lose a lot more to be in real stripper shape.

look in pic post, and look at the photos. your body should look like it fits in with the rest of them......

I too sneak in at the just overweight range on the BMI chart.
And i am quite happy with that considering i used to be obese on the chart! Still working on being normal though.

My weight almost stopped me dancing until one night i thought "fuck it" went in and did my stuff. Although i have lost a lot of weight, a year later i am still the biggest girl in the club. But i walk about with confidence and make sure i don't sit in a self conscious way (I used to find if i was wearing a see through dress i would cover my stomach. But customers would pick up on that and the comments would start).

I have not had a bad comment in months. In fact in the past week i was told i was the hottest girl in there 3 times.

So by all means if you feel like you could lose the weight then do so, but in the meantime work on building up your self confidence and learn how to exude sexiness no matter what size you are.

If you are embarassed by your body and find it really hard to appear confident then perhaps dancing isn't for you, at least at the moment.

    xx

So not true. Girls are all different sizes and she needn't compare herself to any of us. We don't even know what she looks like.

I agree with lola. i'm 5'4" and about 130 right now, and i'm not happy with it. i'm usually about 115-120. the op asked for honesty and honest criticism. so honestly, i think she should lose some weight.

Me too! I just got up the nerve to wear a bikini at work and I've gotten a lot of good response as long as I carry myself right! I am a compulsive tummy hider though.

    Hi,
I've never danced in FL so it is hard to say exactly. But honestly that is a bit heavy, you may do ok in a lower tier club though. In NJ I was always called thick at 98lbs and seriously toned, but I'm only 4"11', however in PA, WV or NC I was considered thin. I know it isn't fair, but we are expected to be much thinner and shaplier than your average woman.

I'm 5'4 and probably 128 and I feel like I need to loose 10lbs . 150 sounds a bit heavy in my opinion. Guys like all kinds of different women. If you are making money, then it's probably not an issue, right?

The next time a girl asks me if she's too fat, no matter how she looks, I'm going to reply with, "Why, now that you mention it, you are!!" because how else does someone expect me to answer? Really?

I've danced in Tampa, but not Cocoa Bay... I don't know what it's like there. When I danced in Tampa I was about average size at 5'2" and 105. There were girls skinnier and heavier than me, but most were my size.

If I were you, I think it might be better to start at 135 or so? Just my opinion. I know I was considered quite thick when I once (oh god no lol) "ballooned" to 118 lbs.

Its confidence baby! I'm 5'4 and was usually around 115 when I danced. Now I'm about 126, and I wouldn't feel comfortable dancing. But I'm not afraid to get nekkid for sex or in a bikini for going out. So, if you're comfortable and making money at 150....still, that would be way too much on me.
