Default Vaseline as an eyeshadow base (w/pic link)

This lady posts on MUA and iCompact;and linked her pics there...this is really cool!

    http://www.makeupalley.com/product/s...3/rid=1050196/

HOWEVER: She adds that "using Vaseline as a base does not seem to work as well with loose eyeshadow/ pigments. Not the ones I have tried anyways. It's not that it doesn't work, but it is sort of a PITA. For whatever it doesn't apply as smoothly...I assume b/c there is no fillers and what not for it to do so. So you have to sort of pat in one and blending is a bitch. I also find that pigments seem to crease with Vaseline as a base. So I don't really use it for loose shadows/pigments."

    LoveSexMoney....

Yea, sucks about the pigments, although I'm gonna try it with some of my inexpensive ones anyway. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have tried this and I hate the feeling. Looked great, but my shadow creased within a few hours. I have very oily lids though, I could see this working for someone with dry lids.

yeah, if you have oily eyelids (like me), what happens after a few hours is that the eyeshadow creases and doesn't stay even.

i use light hair gel ....... and i've been doing that for many years. now i feel like i just showed you guys my soul.

i just use a eye shadoow applicator to apply a thin layer of gel before brushing on shadows. it works -great-. it also works well to keep glitter in place on your eye lids.

also also, it's fantastic for keeping eyebrows in place. i dip a cleaned out mascara brush in a tiny bit of gel and then brush my eyebrows into place after i've penciled them.

Chapstick. Less oily. Use only a thin layer, thin thin- apply with your finger, not the stick.

For loose pigments, use a dabbing motion as opposed to a sweeping, as your surface will be more 'tacky'.

I've heard of this too but I'm not really convinced since I like my makeup to stay for a LONG time. Mac's mixing medium makes colors brighter and helps them stay too.

You know I've been using my mac glass lip gloss..and I'm guessing this probably works the same.

But what she said is true. It's fucking IMPOSSIBLE to blend like you normally would with it as a base.

BUT I use it for the loose glitter that I put in the corners of my eyes and on the brow bone. Because with the glass it's been far too tacky and by the way it's incredibly impossible to get the shit off the next day ( at least the glitter.)

So I gave it a try to. I love it!

You have to use a very very tiny small amount. Pat the eyeshadow on.

I haven't had a problem with blending at all.....

I used a pink eyeshadow on the inner part, a darker pink in the middle to blend everythign together and black on the outer v part and blended in....it turned out looking very purple....

The only problem was I couldn't seem to blend the color above the crease right, so the line looks a little harsh.

Plus I didn't like the lipstick color....

I always use Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm. It makes my eyelids tingly cool and isn't as thick and greasy as vaseline. I use it on my cheeks when I am not wearing makeup and want some color to my cheeks too. I guess the peppermint makes my cheeks rosy(I could see this as a downside for some skin types, but I love it).

Vaseline makes my eyelids puffy. Least when I tried to use it as a night eye cream lol.
