I just moved to Atlanta three weeks ago, and just today I got my license. I feel so official now! I'll be working at Oasis in Dekalb county, starting this Thurs night. I visited with my boyfriend on Saturday, talked to the manager, and he hired me on the spot. No audition. Yay!!! This comes after a frustrating three-week club search.
Finding a club in Atlanta sucks for all the following:
1. Clubs are segregated. Before I moved here, I thought that Magic City was the only "black" booty shakin' club, but they are common, and often you don't know you're walking into one until you're in one. (I'm naive. sorry) Just such a difference in the same town from one building to the next. I'm used to a club that plays a lot of techno, etc... and I have YET to hear one techno song in Atl. Because of the great divide, dancing styles can be far different from one club to the next also, which can be confusing to someone starting out.
2. There are soooo many clubs, and so many of them are sub-par, that I ended up wasting time walking into clubs that had great advertisements, etc, only to find someone lighting a blunt next to me, or being the only white person in the building, which I found uncomfortable. Or they were just empty with no one buying dances. And I was visiting on Saturday nights.
3. Licensing works by county and/or city, and in Fulton, for instance, it's good for only one club.
4. Girls at the top clubs seem to be on edge. It seems very competative. Probably because there are three or so top clubs, relatively clean, compared to 200+ random strip clubs that don't necessarily scream class. If you work at one of them, you know what you've got, and don't want any bitch to jeopardize it.
I hope my search is really over, and that I'll be happy at this club. I'm looking forward to it. It's been three weeks since I've rocked the platforms, and I can't wait!
