It's not the first time I've read something like this. May be some truth to it. The apparent reality is that, in cases of extreme trauma, the brain doesn't always immediately acknowledge a major injury. Maybe even goes out of it's way to turn it off, a kind of survival instinct giving the injured a window during which they can keep on functioning (presumably to get help).

It's very plausible. I cut my thumb really deep (like, to the bone almost) through my glove at my regular job once and didn't even notice until I took the glove off ages later to have a smoke. I don't really have a high pain tolerance either, so I totally believe this story.

I dunno...if I hit something and it hurt, my first instinct would be to look at it to make sure everything was ok, yanno?
It just baffles me that someone would know they were in pain and just keep going without stopping to check it out.
I'd see the difference if he was shock and he wasn't hurting (couldn't feel it)...but that ^ is what caused my WTF moment.he felt extreme pain after hitting a safety barrier on his motorcycle

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat that is the craziest thing I've heard all week. He kept going?

Shock. Pure and utter shock. That's how.
